My wife has never seen the mountains and has always wanted too. We are thinking about a vacation this summer and I would like to take her some place like Colorado to see the mountains.

We don't have alot of money and don't really want to do many "activities". Just a trip somewhere, stay in a hotel a couple of nights and enjoy God's creation, then drive back home.

Any recommendation on a short vacation for someone who has never seen the mountains before?

P.S. We live in Missouri

The absolutely most beautiful mountains I've ever seen are the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.
I lived there for 7 years and it was truly heaven on earth.

Gotta agree with Shar-Mar. This is a link to a web cam showing a long distance view. Unfortunately right now it looks like it's snowing out there so all you can see are clouds.

Banff National Park in Canada is pretty amazing, too.

Or, for something a little less rugged, there's Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park.

Pike's Peak was my introduction to mountains and the beginning of my love affair with them. [:D]

We have the Adirondacks in upstate NY, but that would probably be a little far...

I don't know if you could classify the ozarks as mountains.

I live at the foot of the Grand Mesa in Western Colorado, it is the world's tallest flattop mountain. There is lots to see and do here. Tbe Gunnison area is nice too.

I lived in Colorado Springs, go there!

Pikes Peak, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, and Manitou Springs are right there. It's maybe an hour's drive down to Canyon City to see the Royal Gorge. There are some small towns west of there in the mountains, Cripple Creek & Victor, that advertise themselves now for having a couple of casinos. We don't do casinos, but the drive out there is spectacular, and there are lots of old historical buildings and some old gold mines that are interesting. It makes a nice little day trip from COS.
