My son is currently experiencing an unnatural attraction for the cartoon "Pinky & The Brain".

Brain: "What we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world!"

Ahhh yes...that fits Thing 1 quite nicely.

He has a shirt that says, "Keep smiling; I'm going to be your boss someday."

Tink - where can I get that t-shirt!!

OK, so as long as we're on the topic of our kids - fun geek story:

My 8 year old son's favorite TV show: "Iron Chef America"
2nd favorite TV show: "Alton Brown's Good Eats"
3rd favorite TV show: Bobby Flay's cooking smackdown

At dinner with a friends son, the two kids were sitting at the end of the table in the restaurant discussing the merits of Rios vs. Flay on Iron Chef. Which one REALLY had the better presentation & why Flay could have spiffed up his cuisine a bit more. It was like a little junior cuisinary Roper & Ebert.

This went on for 30 minutes while both boys ate split pea soup & E. was enjoying a nice smoked trout.

i think one of the greatest treasures i have is an old worn bible that my great grandmother used to use. (she died when i was in 3rd grade, so I didn't get a chance to really know her). but when i look through her bible and see the notes she made and the thoughts she had at the time, it brings me to tears. her beautiful words and thoughts preserved on the page.

of course, that was back when you only had one bible, because that's all she could afford. ...but i hope that years after i'm gone, one of my grandchildren finds one of my bibles that i've written in and gets a little better glimpse of me. i'd rather they read the notes i have in my bible than one of my blogs.

This reminded me that my paternal grandmother kept everything of importance in her Bible. Not only did she record marriages, births and deaths by writing them in the Bible, but she would tuck important papers between Revelation and the back cover.

It was so old and worn that some pages were loose. I wish I knew where it was. My aunt (now deceased) probably took charge of it.

That is hysterical!! My munchkin, whom I refer to as my little Sous Chef, loves Emeril ... but also loves Alton Brown (also referred to as "The Corn Guy" because he did a show on corn the first time he watched), and he also loves Iron Chef.

Although I have to wonder about his fascination because he doesn't seem overly experimental about trying new foods. He's still into PB&Js, mac-n-cheese, plain this and plain that.

I think I got it at Target.

Thing 2 is into the Food Network (when we had it anyway). I always hated it because then he would disappear in the kitchen and make a HUGE mess.

Another geek story:

Thing 1 has the Lego Imperial Star Destroyer (Star Wars ship for those who aren't well versed in the Saga *grin*).

Someone broke some pieces on it and so he finally got around to fixing it. He calls me at work the other day.

"Mum, I got the wings fixed but it looks like the turbo booster is missing some cams. Is there anyway we can get a few replicas of them because it could off set the balance on lift off and that could cause a complete tail spin."

*blink*

"Ummm..Thing 1, you know it's just a toy...right?"

"Of course, mum." "But I'm not going to treat it like a dumb toy. One day I'm going to make one of these or something better and I don't want to look like an idiot when I do."

*blink*blink*

Like I said, World Emperor.

The Things tried escargot for the first time on the cruise. They love it!

I think it's suppose to mean they are being obtuse.

It's a Christian insult.

Ned Flanders is a Christian character on the Simpsons, and he is a stereotypical caricature of how the world views Christian fundamentalism. It reinforces the general view that Christians are stupid and simplistic and closed-minded.

I have never watched that show, and ^that makes me loathe it even more than I already did.

I'll admit to being stupid, but I'm certainly NOT going to admit to being simplistic.

I never got the Simpsons either. My best friend loves it - says it's all sarcasm (which you would think would make me like it), but it just annoys me...

Plus, I'm a geek too and anything that is wildly popular (unless I saw it FIRST ) tends to annoy me.... (although I was a well-liked geek )

If you check out my myspace page you'll see what an adorable geek he is.

Looks just like his mum!!!

Believe me this is way better than "Mom can we go for sushi" She's 13. When we pass the fish counter at the grocery, she breaths in and says "oh that smells soooo good."

Really? I don't remember you ever using it (I can only think of a few that do) but for some reason I thought you were young and "with it", and knew all sorts of lingo. I really don't have any idea why I thought that though.

I wasn't "with it" when I was young. Now I'm old as dirt and still a dork.

And THIS is why I love you!
