yup...that's all we have too (and the commissary on post...but they don't sell anything but name brand items so it's usually more expensive to go there)

They do have some sweet coupons, that matched up with sales are great deals!! I can almost always find boxes of (the non-sugary!) cereal for under $1/box just with the coupons they have on their shelves.
And at least in our area their produce is up to half the price of every other grocery store around (unless the other stores are running an amazing sale.) Ground beef and boneless skinless chicken breasts are way cheaper there too for us.

the produce is the only thing worth buying at our commissary....their selection is HUGE compared to wal-mart and much nicer and fresher. I just keep thinking that it's better then germany...lol. Our commissary there was about the size of a good sized gas station building....the meat, dairy, and veggies/fruits dept of ours here is about the size of our whole store over there. Anyway....we get some thing at Sam's (cereal, oatmeal, meats, etc)....and most "middle of the store" items at Wal-Mart cause ew can get the cheaper off brand of that item.

We eat better/more variety than I did growing up so I know where a lot of the cost is going (plus I buy paper towels where as she never would!)

I ran out of paper towels this week, and I'm going crazy without them! I always get the choose-a-size, they are so handy!

The bank called and rescheduled our appointment...now we have to wait...again! Yeesh! Oh well, at least I get to sit around home and be lazy instead of being all rushed.

My neighbour and I went for a long, long, long walk all along the river where we live. It was really warm and it was a nice walk. We live on the side of a mountain, and we both hate walking back up to get home, so we drive down to the corner and walk up the river from there. We can walk a lot further, and I sure feel a lot better when I get home than if I trudged back up the mountain!

I'm working on the baby book, trying to keep up, hopefully I can remember enough, and look back at the dates that I took all my pictures and see what I can remember!

Anybody know how I can find out the biggest news story the week that he was born? I tried google, but don't know what to search for.

We shop at Sam's some. We spilt a membership with my MIL and buy canned goods, rice, oatmeal, and paper products. We pop the rice, oatmeal, and flour and stuff in the freezer and it keeps well! Since alot of our family work for Tyson (either in plant or growers) we are eligible for their "family store" so that where we get our chicken. We get pork and ground beef from family. So that really helps our grocery bill, to cut out buying most meat. The killer on groceries is MILK! Its ridiculous! I am also planning on canning and freezing some garden stuff this year. And Klay said he'd buy me some chickens this fall! Our goal is to try to be self sufficient where we could at least get by, if anything adverse happened.

Chelle, what is the BOGO deal you are talking about with Publix?

A lot of times they will have BOGO deals on certain items. For instance I got name brand taco kit buy 1, get 1 free and if you only buy 1 of the items you still get it half off. I know I have seen Lay's potato chips, taco kits, canned goods, pasta, and a variety of other items on sale like this.

quote:

Publix has a really nice baby program - I *think* you can sign up so long as your child is under two.

I signed up when Hunter was around 8 months old and I have yet to receive a single thing from it. I did it online so I don't know if it just never made it to where it needed go or what.

I told hubby I definitely think we need to make a once a month trip to Macon and get all of our meat and laundry detergent there. That is our nearest Sam's club and its about a 20-25 minute drive depending on traffic. I can get a huge box of Cheer that is over 100 loads (I think its about 120-140 not sure exact) for about what I pay for a 80 load box. I know meat is what kills me at Kroger because when its not on sale its really high. I also heard milk is cheaper there. I just feel like as the homemaker (this is my personal opinion for myself) it is my job to use our money wisely since I am the primary spender of it. I feel like I am failing at this and I really need to start being more mindful I guess of what I put in the cart.

Our is $300-$320 a month of groceries and that is just for a family of three. I feel like I am doing something way wrong. That does include everything though not just food items.

what a good idea Prudent, an easy way to get 30 extra bucks. Nice

Even my dad said that's a steal for our house. We're paying 180K

my budget is $400 a month. I usually spend a little less than that. Toiletries are included, and we use cloth diapers, so that cuts a lot right there.
We eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. More beans than meat, but pair a bean with a grain like brown rice and you've got a protein just like meat. I make all our bread. I get some things at Sam's, a few a Wal-mart, most at the commissary

Before baby, it was $150 every two weeks. Now that we're buying diapers and formula at the same time as groceries, it ends up being around $200 every two weeks.

eta...we both get paid every two weeks, so it's easier to figure out a budget bi-weekly rather than monthly.

I'm curious....what is everyone's weekly or monthly grocery budget?

In Germany our grocery bill every payday was about $600...because of where we had to shop and the exchange rate, etc. It really ate through our COLA (Cost Of Living pay that we would get extra every months because we lived in a high cost of living area).
now monthly it is down to about $600 a month on months when we have to buy a lot (a few times a year we stock up more...about every three months or so is about what it works out to be). On shorter months, and when I don't have to cut out more, it's about $450-500. I can get it down to basics if necessary and keep it under $200...but that's without a lot of snacks or fresh veggies and with lots of fillers like noodles and grains. Not exactly the most healthy diet when I have to do that. We buy everything household related on that budget (including pull-ups for two of ours that need them at night, and diapers when we don't want to use cloth diapers. All cleaners, school stuff, laundry stuff, etc.).

We've been averaging about $100/week (for all household needs). But our freezer and pantry are completely stocked, and we could live quite awhile on that stuff. Also having just moved I've had to buy a lot of things we didn't need in our apartment - mop, more cleaning supplies, more lightbulbs, etc - those are all included.

This week I did well (my weeks run from Fri - Fri right now). I spent a total of $80 and that included 10lbs of beef sirloin that was on sale and four cartons of OJ that were on sale (it will last the rest of the month *I'm hoping*)
For next week I need fresh produce, bread (tho I may make it), some dairy items and probably some B/S chicken breasts to add variety to our meat diet So the bill should be lower then too.
Our big expense right now is salad. We eat it at every supper, loaded with different veggies and/or fruit.

Including non-food household stuff like diapers and soap, our budget is $350 a month. I spend $250 at our monthly trip to McMinnville's Winco and try to freeze as much as I can. Then we go to Costco and buy diapers for $75 for both kids. And, then I end up going to our expensive grocery store here in town for produce and WIC once a week. I am going to try to figure out how much I'm saving or losing by not driving to McMinnville weekly to go to the cheap grocery store. It would cost me $7 in gas to drive there and back (30 miles).

Grocery budget = $240/month. That's toiletries, everything. That's all I have to spend so I just crunch it.

I honestly don't know what I spend on groceries. I don't have a set amount-a budget-that I try to stay within. And I don't really keep track monthly of what I've spent. That's probably really terrible. I do know that I make one "big" trip each month and spend $70-100 at that time, depending on what I have in stock. But then there are lots of little trips for milk, bread, diapers, things on sale, etc.

Ours for groceries only is about $280 for the last few months. Adding cleaning and laundry and tp, I guess it would go up to $350.

I'm trying something this month--planning only for the week, and according to the sales flyers. I think I am just too scatterbrained and disorganized to do monthly shopping and bulk buying well.

Ugh, the joys of staying at home

Nicole -- FYI mice can fit into cracks 1/4 inch thick so they can come in from anywhere.

Honestly, that's a really good budget, Chelle. I'm not often that good. I do try to take advantage of the "buy one get one free" deals at Publix, too, especially if it's something practical/stores easily.

I've got a good baby book from the Publix baby club, and lots of good coupons.

Boneless Skinless is always WAY cheaper then even Sam's club can offer, it's regularly $1.63 per lb and it's at least $2 per lb at Sam's. I am wondering about ground beef though, I just keep forgetting to check.

We save more shopping at the Commissary because we don't use much "middle of the store" stuff, except for flour, sugar, rice, seasonings, tuna, bread, etc... I buy 2-3 bags of chips per month from Sam's and Micah takes them to work. I also haven't been buying much produce since it's not local, so most of our stuff has been frozen which is really cheaper anyway.

As for grocery budget, it ranges from $250-350 a month including paper goods and diapers. Oh, and I guess cleaning supplies. It ranges depending on how much I spend at Whole Foods.

Christina, the foods in that picture for the US is appalling. No wonder we have such a high obesity rate!

81% lean use to be $1.19/lb. It recently went up and it's $1.32/lb
93% lean is $1.60-ish a pound.

I budget $75 a week for groceries...some weeks we are under, some we are over. That includes stuff for Akeelah too, like her own milk and yogurt.

That doesn't factor in things like diapers and toilet paper/paper towel but does include home cleaning products (I try to use natural cleaning products).

We haven't bought toilet paper in over a year because we stocked up when there were really good sales. Same with paper towel, I only buy it about twice a year.

Jess - too funny about Paul asking you to stop talking about coupons. Once I got an extremely good deal on laundry detergent (sale + coupon). I couldn't stop talking about it, it was so great, and Dh had to politely tell me to shut up.
