Maggie, I'm sorry about your loss. Christina, my aunt & uncle are in their 50s and they just became a husband/wife trucking team last year. They love everything about it except missing family & friends. They have the right disposition to enjoy spending all their time together in tight quarters, and love seeing new places. We were concerned when they said they were going to do this, but they are thriving at it. They have very limited expenses because they are working all the time. They are renting out their home, and really only have food & cell phone bills. It's a blessing for them because they'll be debt free in a few years, and in a much better position to retire financially secure.

Maggie- I hate to hear about your grandmother and the doubts you have been having about her salvation. I know that has to weigh on you. I don't know what to tell you, but I can pray for you.

I don't know about a truck, BUT, it has always been my dream to travel the country in an RV, LOL. Has anyone ever taken a family vaca in one?

Well, I'm not one yet, but I'm counting down to May 31 as my last day of working before being a SAHM until our kids are in school. My name is Kim, and I'm 24 years old and our baby's to be born in June. I've worked throughout our marriage (until this January) as the primary breadwinner solely because I have a phenomenal part-time job that pays very well. It's been an interesting transition for me to be working less (due to how much school I've got ... plus with the pregnancy, it was difficult for me to keep up the level of work I was doing) and Brad bringing home more money. At first I felt like I wasn't "contributing" enough, but I'm getting better! By the time the baby comes, it should be old hat! quote:
But seriously, people look at me as though I either should not have gone to school if all I was doing was planning to stay at home (I always knew I would but did not realize it would be so soon) or I should not be staying at home with my children and I should be putting my education to work for me. Lexie, I completely, 100% understand! I'm in my last semester of my Nursing degree and EVERYONE asks where I'm going to work. I tell them at home, hopefully until all our kids are in school, which might be 10 years from now. Jaws literally drop! Being a SAWM is not a norm around here, and while some people are SURPRISINGLY supportive and happy that I'm doing it, others don't understand why I would bother to get my degree. Originally, I was planning to work for a bit, but plans changed! Either way, I've got a degree that will guarantee me a job whenever I need/want one (helpful for if something happened to Brad or his career) and it's still a degree even if I never choose to nurse! I love having my education, and am glad I did it regardless of whether or not I ever use it. We bought our home with another couple and are living in community with them (some separate, some common space). We would not have been able to buy on our own, and this way we are able to pay all our bills and have leftover income on just my husband's salary. The nurses' union in Ontario just ratified a new collective agreement and the starting wage for RNs is now $29-ish per hour! When Brad heard that, he said, "Remind me again why you're staying home instead of me??!?" LOL - he was joking, but sometimes it *is* a difficult decision to make!

I meant to say I would NOT want to drive, but I would ride with him if I could.

Kim, you have a really neat living arrangement. What parts of the home do you share? Kitchen and dining? When all is said and done, we will be sharing kitchen/dining space, Brad and the other guy will share an office, shared library, living room, and family room. Basically all our space will be shared except our bedrooms and bathrooms. The house is just so big that there are plenty of different spaces - each of us could be in a different "shared space" room at once! It gives us a variety of rooms/atmospheres depending on what you're looking for. The loft is our tv/entertainment room, there's a main floor 'living room', the library's on the second floor for quiet space/reading, etc. It's not quite all set up (read: we're still all living on one side of the house!) but it's been working well with the incredibly limited space we've had - we're all looking forward to actually having more spaces!

Maggie, sorry to hear about your grandmother...hugs!!! Kim, that is neat! It definitely sounds like everyone will be able to have enough space for personal time. Neat! Do they have children? The past two days have been very, very frustrating as I have been dealing with a mobile, grouchy, teething baby who is getting into everything. I feel like I am failing lately at this whole discipline thing as he is into everything and doesn't listen (sometimes he does, most of the times he test me). I move him tell him no touch and he will go right back to it. We do this three or four times, then I pop his hand and tell him no. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't...ughh, I am at a lost of how to get a one year old to obey. Then after being home all day dealing with that I am a grouchy myself...my poor hubby! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day...sorry I just had to vent!

Chelle, I know Akeelah is just a little older than Hunter and we went through the same thing. We would tap her on the hand, say no and remove her. And she would always go back. But recently she has begun going up to the things that we did this, put her hand out, and said "no-no." It took a lot of patience but it will get through to them. Dh and I have a dream that once we have all of our kids, we will pull them out of school for a year and travel across the country in an RV. I've only been to 4 provinces (of 10 + 3 territories) and Dh has only been to two. We've never been west of our province, so it would be a learning experience for us as well. Maggie, sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I am glad to know that he will eventually get it, but right now it feels like a loosing battle. I am sure the fact that he is so whiny the past few days isn't helping my patience level whatsoever. We have entered our third day of pure whining and I doing my best to be understanding. I know one problem is his teeth our bothering him, but other than that I have no clue what is wrong with him. I have put orajel on his gums and I am thinking some infant motrin might help too.

Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Not everyone can be like the Pearls getting a baby to behave perfectly. You won't have an out of control, rebellious teenager just because you couldn't get Nathan to stay out of the dishwasher.... oh wait, that's my problem. You and I are on our first kid, here, and we're not exactly sure how much our boys can understand or how much they are capable of obeying. I say, we stay consistent, try to keep our patience, and say a prayer. Our boys will be okay, Chelle. Distraction doesn't always work for me. If I'm loading the dishwasher, then showing him something else he can do is about as interesting as showing ice water to a child that see a hot fudge sundae,

Just be sure to read the ingredients in those tablets. We did, and we were not comfortable feeding them to our baby. You make your own call.
