I have a question, not trying to interfere with the topic at hand. I went to the dermatologist today for routine check of my skin. She took a biopsy of one of my moles on my back and said to come back in two weeks for the result. So my hubby says his opinion is that she just removed something so I would have to come back and she would get more money. Do you think doctor's sometimes do unnecessary procedures on their patients just to get extra money? I really don't know if I do or not, but I know I rather be safe than sorry regardless if she was doing this just to make more money.

There's no way to know for sure, of course, but I wouldn't mess around with questionable moles. My husband goes to the dermatologist every 6 months and the doctor removes something nearly every time. However, she tells him the biopsy results over the phone later. Maybe you could ask if you could just call in to get the results without having to show up for an office visit.

Better safe than sorry. My sister had a mole on her ankle all her life. finally she asked for it to be removed because it was bothering her. She discovered she has stage three cancer. Don't fool around with moles.

I do believe (getting back to Nicole) that study tools like the ones on Crosswalk.com, Bible.org, The Blue Letter Bible and Christianty.com are very helpful. I have become much more sound in my doctrine using the tools on these websites. John MacArthur's teaching has also been helpful.

I disagree. Doctors do follow-ups all the time for lab results, especially if there is chance of something like cancer I think they prefer to have an office appointment scheduled so they talk in person as opposed to giving you bad news over the phone.

I wish my dentist was a little more "in business". Maybe then he would agree to give me novacaine for the small filling I need

I don't think that most doctors do extra procedures for the money. I do think that some of them are afraid of getting sued so they order more than necessary
However skin cancer is increasing so much that its best to get anything suspicious checked. You don't even have to be out in the sun a lot to get it.

I'd get that check out too, Chelle. It's not worth messing around with. Think of how much more expensive undetected cancer is than an office visit.
Jeannie, I'm with you on studying God's Word. We have everything we need right there and centuries of godly men and women who have studied it as well and can give great commentary on it. They shouldn't be discounted just because there are some out there misusing Scripture for their own purposes. But they should be tested though. As Martin Luther said,
"Christ is the Master; the Scriptures are only the servant. The true way to test all the Books is to see whether they work the will of Christ or not. No Book which does not preach Christ can be apostolic, though Peter or Paul were its author. And no Book which does preach Christ can fail to be apostolic, although Judas, Ananias, Pilate, or Herod were its author."
Granted I think he was talking more specifically about the books of the Bible and their inclusion in the canon, but I think it can be applied to any book by a Christian. If it doesn't preach Christ (and correctly) then it's rubbish...no matter who wrote it.

So true Maggie. I would definately recommend that anyone have anything they are suspicious of checked out.
Cancer is VERY prevalent in my family, in many different forms...so I try to be aware of anything suspicious and ask my dr about it. Have a spot on my hand right now that I'm treating with a steriod cream the dr. wanted me to try first to see if it cleared up but she said if that didn't help it any then the other thing she'd suspect from the symptoms would be skin cancer so I'm supposed to go back in a couple of weeks if it doesn't improve with this treatment.
Sometimes they just go ahead remove something small and check first then move to other treatments if necessary...but I'm thinking maybe she didn't go that route because it's directly on top of one of those veins that bulge out in the back of my hand...cause I'm guessing that even though it would still be really minor that it would be a little trickier from the dr.'s perspective than removal of some spots would be.

If you're asking to have it (are you? I don't want to assume...) I sure wish the dentist would give it to you! Seems like a calm, pain-free patient would be the best kind of dental patient.
Oh, I trusted him and didn't end up needing it for the small one, I was rather surprised. It was the big deep one that took 10 shots, so he definitely will give it if needed.

Oh how I wish the dentist could numb me...for some reason I'm what they refer to as 'resistant' I've had as many as 12 shots before and the only numbness that ever occurred was to my eye socket! My mouth doesn"t numb at all not even a tingle.

Once in the middle of a sermon, an elderly man became very ill. We called an ambulance, and one of the elders went with the wife (also elderly) in the ambulance. The pastor led in prayer while we waited.
We also have a specific part in our service where we pray for those who are ill or grieving and for any family members in Iraq/Afghanistan.

I think it depends on severity to some people-- even in church. Maybe if you have a cold they'd think about praying for you; if you have cancer they most definitely will pray for you...if that makes sense.

Our church prays for the sick a lot. If one of our members is sick or is going in for surgery or treatment, if they feel comfortable with it, we will all gather around them and pray for them.
Cell Phones going off in church: A minor annoyance, or a big deal? Has it ever happened at your church? Did the pastor ignore it or not?

10?!? Couldn't you have just had one of those big shots in the corner of your mouth the numbes half of your mouth at once?
I would say that was the first shot he did  It wasn't enough, I ended up crying(and the dentist does not induce panic or fear for me), shaking, and like I was freezing cold. Shock? or just a reaction to the meds?
Lisa, I am resistant to the meds as well, which I think is why it takes so much time, and so many shots for me to get numb enough. I'm really not that big of a weanie, I swear.

I think it depends on his mood. Sometimes he gives a little "that better be God calling" sort of comment, and other times he just ignores it. I think it happens about once a month, we also have a reminder on the projection screen before service to "kindly silence your cell phones and pagers".
