May I direct everyone's attention back to the interview I mentioned above?

I'd like to know what people think about Erwin's non-profit organization "Awaken".

I think it's God's brain child. A very much needed way to reach the lost in the creative capitol of the world. I agree with him that we should embrace change quicker in the church, as even young people can't tolerate some of the traditions that we cling to.

Christians need the power of God operating through our lives for others to see that we don't have a 'dead' faith with a 'dead' god.

When Erwin talks about his "non-profit" organization, which "Awaken" is he talking about?

I've been posing this question to the leadership of Mosaic and "Awaken" for a year now and I still haven't gotten a definitive answer.

To see what I mean, go to the California Business Portal at:
California Business Portal
and type in the word Awaken in the box for corporations.

This will bring up a list of registered California corporations. Near the top of this list are FOUR separate corporations tied to Erwin McManus that use the word "awaken" in their title:

Here they are in order of the year in which they were incorporated:

2002 Awaken Center for Creativity
Agent for Service of Process: Erwin McManns (This is a mispelling but I have researched this corporation and can prove it is the same Erwin Raphael McManus.)

2003 Awaken International
Agent for Service of Process: Erwin R. McManus

2005 Awaken
Agent for Service of Process: Sealy M. Yates (Yates and Yates, LLP. This is Erwin's literary agent.)

2007 Awaken Humanity
Agent for Service of Process: Eric Bryant
(He is Erwin's number two man and the lead pastor of Mosaic, L.A.)

If you go back to the interview with Infuze Magazine, you'll see that it was written in 2006 so my question is:

Which of these "Awakens" was Erwin talking about?

If you follow the link to the California Business Portal you'll see why I don't believe he was talking about the first two "Awakens." He couldn't have been talking about Awaken Humanity because it didn't exist in 2006.

That leaves "Awaken" but this corporation doesn't show up on the California State Attorney General's List of Charitable Trusts.
To check this out please go to:

Office of the Attorney General, State of California

Click on "Charities Search", and enter Awaken in the box marked "Organization Name."

So, which one is it?

Oh, I can understand your confusion. In the interview Erwin very clearly states that 'awaken' has four separate branches. Legally, for them to each be responsible for the monies that go in and out, they must do it this way. One of his 'awakens' is the film branch and one is a literary branch and another is the teaching/conference one. Erwin would be referring to all of them in his term 'Awaken' as they all have the same goal, but focus on separate areas to influence.

At the time of the interview they could have been operating all the branches, but had not yet registered all of them. That often happens. The Mosaic leadership could have been operating the other focus areas under the Mosaic banner or under one of the other 'awaken' banners before separating it out.

Just to clarify things:

I have been conducting my own research into "Awaken" for a little over a year now.

During this time, I have also been researching the laws concerning the operation of non-profit organizations at both the state and federal levels.

I've consulted with two different attorneys and a tax accountant (all of whom specialize in this area) and asked questions regarding the proper operation of non-profit organizations.

When I first began to look into Awaken, I was contacted by it's former vice president Jimmy Duke (he contacted me, NOT the other way around!) and he attempted to give me some answers, unfortunately; he was not able to answer some of my most basic questions.

I then started an email conversation with the current vice president of Awaken and executive pastor of Mosaic, Eric Bryant. His answers were vague and at times contradictory.

This is not the place to go into the details of my investigation but I can assure everyone here that I am not the person who is "confused."

To anyone who reads this:

If you are an attorney, CPA or some other tax professional I would be more than happy to continue this discussion with you but after a long, hard year of research I really don't have the patience to waste my time responding to people who obviously don't know what they are talking about.

I'm curious, and the reason for all this 'detective' work to find something wrong in the financial standing of Mosaic, is why? Why the intense desire to discredit them? Is there a burr under the saddle or something?

The fact that the executive pastor is not able to answer all the legal jargon questions about Mosaic's status is not too surprising. I know of pastors who are completely unable to answer all the legal questions about their non-profit and have people go to their lawyers to talk.

And since you seem to have all the 'secret' low-down on Mosaic, you now have a great need to disclose your knowledge about them to those who prove themselves of the same mind and insatiable appetite for this knowledge? You spent a long, hard year of research because you feel your father was 'hurt' in some way by them?? I'm just very clueless as to your motives and would like to better understand it.

I heard from some friends of mine that Erwin McManus appeared on the Frank Pastore Show April 30, 2008. I didn't get to hear the show myself.

Could someone PLEASE tell me if KKLA provides links to previous broadcasts of the Frank Pastore Show or if it's possible to get a transcript? I left a message on the show run sheet and sent an email to Frank Pastore but so far I've gotten no replies.
