well here are some pics of our house

this is the front of the house, we have a carport to the right with a shed also. i should say, that we have a timber frame house, that brick on the front is fake. and the lattice work on the verandah, hubby made that bit so we could have a little verandah thing on our porch.

this is the backyard hubby made the pond but only used plain cement so water never stays in it. The back was basically just the two giant trees when we bought it and wees as tall as my hubby so everything else we have done.

here is another one that is the cubby in this picture and hubby's shed (we are in a drought in australia that's why the grass looks so bad). we are thinking of getting a pool where the cubby is and out a bit onto the lawn area.

this is hubby's shed, behind the clothes line is our laundry which is just white tin and then there is an outside toilet infront of that too, blocks the view of hubby's shed but its an eye sore in itself. this is a wasteland area, we are going to do something eventually. we did want a vegie patch but in a drought in a place that gets alot of heat there is no point.

Thanks kim, I am proud of my hubby for doing the majority of it and caring for it (although with a drought its hard to maintain it all, most of the flowers are dead in all the little garden beds he has made [&o]

Do you have a place separate from your house to do laundry?
And why an outdoor toilet?

LOL I should of explained, we have an indoor toilet too, but that was probably the original toilet or one that was built to service outside. I think the man who originally owned the house worked in his shed alot so maybe he couldn't be bothered going inside to the toilet. Like I said, not sure if it was there from the start or added on after.
Yeah, we do the laundry outside, alot of the old homes had a detached laundry, so it's about 4 metres from the back door I can take a pic and put it up in a minute of how far it is, but beware our laundry is disgusting and needs major work!! The door of it lets all the dirt and dust in.

dont you guys have outdoor toilets too at some houses? you know back in the old days?

How convenient that you've got a sink in your laundry...I wish I had one of those to wash out baby poop explosions!

well where does the water go from the washing machine and where does the water go into it from?

We just have direct connections like you have in the bathtub, or the toilet. Kwim?

ohhh ok, i don't think i have ever seen that in any house in australia before.... even new houses, i mean they probably do have the plumbing under the sink but there is ALWAYS a sink in the laundry. it is good for soaking all of hubby's dirty work clothes in, a mechanic in the mines means soaking clothes all weekend.

Yea, when I soak stuff I just put it on the "soak" setting, then it sits in there for about 2 hours then it cycles.

my machine would get ruined if i did that, the red dust from the iron ore ruins many things including plant life and washing machines [:D]

I love laundry tubs. My parents have one in their house- it was great for messy clothes, bathing the dogs, etc.

This is my new fav. fun thread!! I love everyone's homes!

I just realized this morning that my kitchen is a little too eclectic...I will post pics later...I have a strange style...I like a little french country (but not too fussy) a little traditional but with modern sensiblities of clean lines, not too many nick-nacks, all with a dash of retro, Florida-kitch thrown in for good measure[8D] LOL, does that make sense to anyone but me??

Our house was new and is now 9 years old. The choices for us were to either have a run down old home in town that we couldn't afford to do much to or a brand new house on the outskirts that didn't need maintanance for a while. If we hadn't chosen the new house, we would have needed to wait a few more years to be able to afford the old house and the instant maintanance that would have been necessary.

Okay, here are a few pics: I'm not sure they will translate very well, but I tried to get all angles to try to give you all the whole picture of the space. We are planning on putting the brushed copper stamped tin tiles on the backsplashes, what do you all think of that idea?

Here is what I can't decide:
1.) Should my canisters by my coffeemaker be changed out? They are from my old kitchen and they don't really do anything for this kitchen, they aren't horrible, but it would be an easy switch for something really falublous, any ideas? Here is a close up of the canisters (I really love my silly palm tree soap dispenser) and my rooster on the other side that I love...see what I mean about country french meets florida kitch?

2.) What should I put between my buffet & kitchen? Or should I leave it? Right now it is a pretty handy time-out spot, but I think it needs something, a pretty potted plant?

Okay, these might be hard to see due to the sun, but I tried to get the windows for advise on how to treat them. I don't want or need blinds, they just need to be softened somehow...

I see what you mean! You could call it Italian Meditereanean Chic and that would sum it up better, IMO. [8D] It is beautiful, though, whatever it is! Those cannisters are loud compared to the earthy palette you have in the rest of the room. I would either replace them with something more earthy in color- terracotta, green, creams, etc.

You don't have to do anything between your buffet and cabinets. If you did want to soften that area, you could do a large potted plant, a tiered plant rack with several small plants, or a plant stand with a medium sized drapey plant. If you want a plant there, you should make sure the height is either at counter top level or above.

You could just do simple panels at the sides of your windows to soften them. You could use something sheer and gauzey if room darkening is not an issue or something lined and heavier if you need real privacy or room darkening.

hey, I can give you a tip there.....when washing something especially hard to clean (lots of grease) throw a can of soda in it (preferably "Coke"...it's stronger). I don't know why, but it works to get rid of the grease and gets them pretty clean. Paul brings his coveralls home every weekend, and we do one load with soap and coke and then wash again with just soap and it works great.

I would ditch the canisters and go with stainless steel...but that's just me....lol

You all have lovely homes!!! Maybe I will get it cleaned enough today to really get good pics of the rest of our rooms...but don't count on it. I am trying to stay off my feet so they don't swell more.

I dont have a house just yet but my aunt gave me this Mixer and it is the first thing for my new home when we buy. (she used to cook alot but bc of health issues she cant...as much now...)

me too....or the glass cannisters with the silver/steel lids.

we have the cheap ikea version,but i'm sure there are more expensive ones, or solid ones would look better...especially if you don't like the food items to show.
