Erin, are ya'll trying to fit a full size crib into your bedroom or a bassinet? Just a bassinet, probably a pack and play.

Erin....we have a small travel pack-n-play that we use in our room....PIC HERE (ignore the dresser drawers missing...I am going to redo it...someone gave it to us and I like the marble top on it. So I am going to restain it and put in false drawer fronts) Amber...are you looking to spend the money to replace the countertop, or do you want a cheap way to redo it?

Erin, I had to giggle at you rearranging your room for the pack n play. We did the same, including moving our moose of a water bed and I think Gabby slept in the pack n play *maybe* 4 times. She either slept in a moses basket next to the bed or just in bed with me.

we had a king size bed in Germany, and then he ended up in bed with us, but here we downsized to a queen size and it's just too many people if Paul is in bed too....so Jack ended up in there every night.

My husband mentioned one time that Home Depot has premade countertops for a reasonable price, that might be the way we go if I find something I like.

No it won't chip off or scratch off...IF you do it right. If you want to know how, let me know. I saw it done once to look like granite and it was stunning!!!!

I love finding good deals like that. I don't usually have good luck yard saling. But every now and then... I am so happy for you! Are you going to take pics when you find homes for all of that stuff? We have been spending the day painting. I can't wait to show you what we did today! I am so excited. I also am going to need some input on that round table, but I will take another pic and tell you more about it later, when things get straightened up again.

ok, I am back. This is one of the spots that were have been working on. This is what it looks like now. we have lowered the shelf and made it shallower. We painted it orange to make it pop. Here is a view from a little higher up. I am going to be putting back the desk and making a built in bench (which will look like the shelves), but I am undecided about which colors to use where. I could make the bench and desk all orange, we could make one of them green and the other yellow, we could make them both green... you get the idea. What do YOU think?

I like the contrast of colors Lisa....so do something that will POP. What color are you going to do the right side that is right now wood? (I think green would look good there....since it's on the wall a little, but not very prominent)

boy it's amazing how much dirt builds up on the house in just a few months time!!! We were out there scrubbing the muddy porch and spraying off the siding, and WOW...the trim is WHITE again and the house is BLUE again....lol Paul is out back trying to cut straight shelves for the laundry room above the freezer/dryer/washer. He's not doing so good though...I keep hearing him scream in frustration. I guess it's a good thing he got FOUR 8ft pieces of plywood...even though we only need about half of one....cause at this rate he may use all of it!!!! LOL

LOL! I haven't gotten that far yet. I think that all of the color choices will pop, but I can't decide which one to put where.

Would you do the desk AND the bench green or one green and the other yellow or orange? I really want to know someone else's opinion besides mine because my brain is a bit tired, but want to finish.

ORIGINAL: JoyfulLady Sarah--do tell how painting is done! You are right, they are formica. And they are currently painted...the paint is chipped and scratched in many places. ahh...they weren't painted right. OK here's how to do it right... First start with sanding off all the paint that is there, and sand down past the top shiny layer on the formica...so that you aren't painting on top of sealer. That's what they did wrong...they didn't sand, just painted on top of a sealer. Second is to get MARINE GRADE paint (in any color) and paint it in thin layers. To do a faux granite look, get the colors you want your "granite" to be and sponge on many many layers worth....not fully covering with each, just kind of hit and miss. It will probably take about 7-10 thin coats to look right. Sea sponges are great though....you can get a muddles affect very well with them. Most paint places have books also with tips for how to do faux painting. The key though is the Marine Grade paint. It's more expensive, but it's made for damp environments...which the kitchen cabinets will need to stand up to much dampness. Then you want to do MARINE GRADE sealant on top...again several thin layers. The more layers you do (and the thinner they are) the better your counters will stand up to scrubbing. Once you get about five layers of that on there then it will be very very easy to care for...and be very pretty!!!

HERE are the items I got yesterday. Any thoughts or suggestions about the planters and the pedestal and the bench?
