We bathe our kitties all the time. It's not so bad if you start them young. We didn't bring Lucy in the house till she was like 6 months old, so that was a bit late, and she just howls and carries on like I'm killing her.

Cats are so melodramatic.

Our indoor cat got fleas that we brought in from our yard, which at the time was the home of half a dozen strays. I hate fleas.

New to this thread too. Sorry but I just couldn't bring myself to read the previous 23 pages! Sorry if I missed all those cute stories and querky cats.

Never was a cat person. Had dogs growing up. But my dd, 12 is a huge cat fanatic! I now have cats.

We have a 3 yo tabby, Callie who we found as a very small kitten wandering in my mothers backyard in Florida while we were visiting. Dd begged and daddy said ok as long as she takes care of it. Typical story, eh? My mom agreed that she'd pay to get her fixed for her birthday so all was great. Well, Callie adapted to life at our house quite well and became and inside/outside cat.

Fast forward 3 years, she's a big chicken that chirps! She can't stand closed doors but feels that she has to scope out the houes at night. If she's inside she'll scratch at the doors trying to open them. It's not that she necessarily wants in as much as all doors much be opened. She ha this look, "bite me" when you look at her wrong. You know how most animals will choose one person to cling to? Well, we expected it to be our dd but NO, it's me! If I sit on the couch she's in my lap before I can exhale. She puts her paw to my mouth if I sing. What do you think that means?

We now have a new cat A few months ago we adopted a neighborhood/abandoned cat our neighbor left behind when he moved out. Cyclops (yep, one eye) appears like very short haired orange cat that someone dropped in oil and has yet to drip dry. No idea how old he is but he is probably older than Callie. He stays rather dirty and he doesn't seem to care. Needless to say he stays outside where Callie comes and goes.

That's our cat story.

He bought some flea shampoo and some powder to put on the floor to kill the fleas that you vacuum up. Hopefully that will do the trick. We haven't tried washing her yet. I've never bathed a cat before and I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to try it.
Munchie would probably just about die if she got fleas, she's obsessed about looking good and clean! To the point she lets me know when she's used her litter box!

I had a rash earlier this year and wondered if it was fleas. I invested in some spray and drops from the vets. It wasn't cheap, but it lasts longer than many of the things you can get in shops. As for the drops ~ again, probably costs more, but little miss don't touch me wouldn't go for a shampoo! I used the drops on Munchie, but sold the spray on to a friend because I didn't use it ~ don't know what the rash was, but it wasn't fleas!

Lol!

Our cat seems to like me the best, too, which worried me at first since I have asthma and cats can sometimes trigger that. She hasn't caused me any problems yet, and I'm not sure why. Before if I went to someone's house that had cats, it would trigger an asthma attack after a few hours. Even now if I go to a house with several cats I have trouble, but ours doesn't bother me.

She likes to sit on my chest when I try to read a book, and nuzzles my nose as if she's trying to tell me to put the book down and pay attention to her. She also likes to sit on the back of the couch and attack my ponytail.

Love-able Lisa, Mike has terrible allergies to cats. That is the main reason we bathe them, it really helps his allergies.

She really sounds like a sweetie!

I have had foster kittens in and out of my house all summer. I thought I was allergic to cats, but for the most part I have been OK. Maybe feelings of charity can overtake asthma and allergies.

Maybe.

I have a feeling we're going to regret being charitable to animals, though. There are three other strays outside now, and one of them is pregnant. Actually, I think she had her babies in the woods somewhere in the last couple of days, because the kids said they've seen her and she's skinny now. We'll probably get her spayed, but it doesn't seem fair to have to pay for to get all the neighborhood strays fixed, either. We also have a pregnant dog that someone dropped off for us. We're going to be overrun with animals shortly.

That's cute. Reminds me of a story I read about Charles Dickens once. His family went out, leaving him reading in the library (or somewhere) and the candle he was reading by went out. A few minutes after lighting it, it went out again. He relit it and watched as the family cat tapped the candle out ~ obviously in an attempt to get him to pay attention to her.

We are down to just two kitties. Brinnie and Julia were our first two, then for a while we had Zeus, who is Brandon's kitty, and it took the girls ages to adjust to his presence, and then when Brandon went to his dad's for the year, he took Zeus with him, and now my girls are miserable! Brinnie, especially, will sit at the door and cry because she misses them, and her sock and panty habit has greatly increased (for those who didn't read my thread on that issue, she drags them into the living room when she's upset at something). In fact, not long ago, I came home to find that she had gotten into my bra drawer and dragged them ALL into the living room, and I can only say I am glad I didn't have a guest with me at the time!

Nate wants to get a kitten of his own, but this city has a 3-cat limit and if Brandon brings Zeus back we'd be illegal. And to be honest, I am not sure if they miss the boy or the cat more, lol.

We have a cat who had a litter of kittens almost seven months ago. She had another litter about three months ago. After she had the second litter, she got fixed. The kittens from her second litter all found homes. We still have two kittens from her first litter. Those kittens are almost seven months old. She still lets them nurse. She was fixed about three weeks ago. She did stop nursing them when she was pregnant with and nursing the second litter. In fact, she didn't start letting them nurse again until she healed up from getting spayed. I have never seen a cat do this. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I had to stop burning candles because Bijou burned off half her whiskers on one. This is the same cat that will stare at her reflection in a cup of coffee as long as you don't disturb her. I've watched her for nearly half an hour. I don't know if she thinks there's another cat in there or if she just thinks she looks really good.

Even if you are allergic to cats, you will often have some immunity to your own cat. You might find yourself itching and sneezing if you go to someone else's house and they have a cat you aren't used to.

Wow, I didn't know that!

A couple of nights ago we were watching TV and there was a PetSmart commercial with a cat's tail wagging down the front of the screen. Shadow had never even seemed to notice the TV before, but when she saw that cat's tail she walked over and stood on her hind legs and put her paws on the screen to watch that tail swinging back and forth. Since then the only time she's paid any attention to the TV was during the VP debates. She stood up to get a good look at Sarah Palin.

Oh my word! That's my Sadie! She tries to swat the flames with her paw and all you can smell is burnt cat fur. And she has singed her whiskers too...

She's a smart cat, but she just hasn't figured out the whole fire thing so I have to be SUPER careful.

I used to be terribly allergic to cats but when my dd wanted on years ago I agreed but if I continued to have trouble breathing, she'd be an outside cat. I'd start sneezing violently, break out in hives and my eyes would swell shut. Not attractive look at all! But we got Kissy, a black/white kitten. Immediately, I began to have some problems but prayed knowing my dd would be devestated to lose her precious cat. She had become so attached to this animal since her father deserted her months before so I was determined to figure this whole cat thing out.

God healed my allergies to cats!!! My dd was thrilled she could keep the cat! Several years later Callie, our tabby came to live with us. Kissy died not long after that. We believe she was poisoned but don't know for certain. She had found a way to get inbetween the floors. I guess she felt safe there. Bad thing was that's were she died. She had disappeared for a week or so. We found her by smell. It took some doing to get her out. Glad we had Callie already.

She is the funniest cat. She sits on the deck railing outside our window at night and meows/chirps to get in. When she's in she does the same thing at any closed door. I think she's jealous of the newest addition, Cyclops. She' chases him and seems jealous that he gets to sit on the deck too. I think she flips him off at every opportunity. Poor Cyclops is such an ugly cat with one eye. He needs all the love he can get.

I gave Lexie, my calico cat, to my husband in the divorce process. She was microchipped and the next cat the kids and I adopt will be microchipped, also. Our local SPCA does now microchips every animal that is adopted. I think its a good idea, as cats tend to wander off.

Mrs. Kerrlaw wanted cats but had bad allergies. She took allergy shots every two weeks for several years (and we had four cats the entire time) until her doctor said she didn't need them anymore.

We still have four cats and she does not suffer from allergies.

I have asthma and one time when I had a chest infection and my asthma was bad, my father happened to call. He asked if I was alergic to my cat.

I told him not to be silly.

How could anyone possibly be allergic to my ball of fur?

I bathed the cat the other day--she did not like it.

We do have fleas--I saw one. We're going to treat the carpet. I've been reading up on fleas and learning all sorts of things I didn't know. I always thought if you didn't let your cat go in and out, then you couldn't get fleas. I guess I was wrong.

Our dog had fleas last month and we are pretty sure he got them from a local groomer. Dh did all the flea stuff and we sprayed the cat down. Haven't seen anymore and never saw one on the cat. We don't let our cat outside, well sometimes he runs out and sniffs the ground.

Do you guys give your cats rabies shots? The vet that sold us our Ragdoll said that it wasn't healthy for them. I've never looked it up, but know that our villlage requires dogs to have them each year. Our dog's gets vaccinated, but the cat hasn't yet. He's almost 1. I have to say that's this breed is the best I've ever had.
