My Smoky Watson (age 13+) spends about 23 hours per day on the sun porch these days.
He comes in to eat breakfast, then goes back out. (I leave dry food on the porch, but breakfast includes canned Fancy Feast). He stays out all day and night, at least in warm weather. I think that he has arthritis and loves to lay in the sun that streams through the glass doors.
Sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Nicky will wake me up to let him and the other two out. Smoky will then come in and I lift him onto the bed. He lies on my chest and purrs loudly while I pet him. He then moves down between Mrs. K and I and kneads and purrs for a while longer.
He then goes and gets a drink of water and a snack, and comes back, stands in the hall, and cries loudly until I let him back out.

Actually, I have little difficulty giving pills to our cats. I just hold them and put the pill in their mouth, which I pry open. Occasionally, they spit it out, sometimes 3-4 times.

We have one pill left to give Bijou. While she fought the vet and my husband on the pill-taking, she doesn't fight me at all. It takes about 10 seconds to pry her mouth open and pop the pill in. Still, I'll be glad when we don't have to worry about it anymore!

Oh it's not that... it's that it's been hard enough to give her a worming tablet in the past (I use drops now) and I know that she'll simply hide herself away if I had to give them to her regularly. I doubt she'd even come out for her beloved meat ~ she certainly wouldn't if she thought I stood any chance of catching her.
And I've tried the tablets in the food thing before. She just won't eat ~ and she won't even complain, she just sniffs it and ignores it!

I don't know how I missed this thread. I have two cats that are my babies. Old babies, the girl is soon to be 17 and the boy is 15. They will take pills ok if it just for a few days but more then that is a problem.
My girl has pancreatitis and some neurological problems maybe as a result of a stroke. The boy is fat and fine. He did have kidney stones a few years ago and we almost lost him--but came thru surgery fine.

I once had to give my Siamese a sedative pill before a trip to the vet because he has such a bad attitude about the vet. After gathering advice from online, friends and the vet's office, I wrapped him in a towel and then petted him until he was purring. I had the pill with a pair of tweezers nearby. I set him in my lap, swiftly grabbed the pill with the tweezers, forced his mouth open and put the pill as far back as I could with the tweezers, then clamped his mouth shut with my hand and blew in his face. He swallowed it, because if I hadn't been able to get it down him the first time, I doubt if there would've been a second chance.
Another time I took Himself to the vet because he had fleas. Vet said he could give him a pill to kill the fleas already on him. I was pronouncedly skeptical about how he would get the pill down the already hostile feline, and he said he had a pill gun. He loaded said pill into said pill gun. It was no trouble to get Tut to open his mouth because he was busy snarling and hissing. Pill misfired the first time and didn't leave gun, second time pill went into his mouth and fell out, and finally got it down him the third try. That was the maddest I believe I've ever seen him (the cat, not the vet - the vet just laughed and said, "Yeah, I've seen other Siamese that act like that!").

I've only had King for a few weeks, so I haven't had the pleasure medicating him yet. He's such a strange cat, especially for a Siamese. He'd probably love it, he's weird like that. I found out that he is an Applehead Siamese.

I tried the coaxing thing too. It didn't work very well for me either. Even when it did work, it was an awful lot of trouble. I just shove it in their mouths until they swallow it. About 3/4 of the time, they spit it out the first time around.

Munchie doesn't like being held at the best of times, though she will come and curl up next to me or on me a lot ~ I know that having to give her something every day would make her stop coming near me ~ just in case.

Some are just skittish. Generally, I have noticed that they forget about such incidents pretty quickly. I guess it all depends on the cat. I have given them baths and they nearly wanted to claw me to death to get out of the tub. The only concessions I make is that I try to never get water or suds into their eyes and I don't get them into water over their heads.
Something funny happened the other day. One cat, Bleu was around my ankles like cats do. I didn't know she was there. I stepped back and she let out a loud yelp and ran off under the table. Later on that evening she planted herself right in the middle of my newspaper and would not get off. I tried two or three times to get her off but she remained. Then I took my socked foot and barely touched her tail and she was off like a dart. My thought is that they tend to react instinctively and sometimes purposely. While they don't hold grudges, they can tell the difference between various actions.
She's not afraid of me except that she seems to be afraid of getting stepped on. When I give them a bath ro a pill, I try to not make it very traumatic. If the whole even takes place in a short period of time, it is likely they'll forget about it. But the longer it takes to do it, the more likely it is that they'll remember and avoid such events in the future. That's my take.

Most mornings I ride a stationary exercise bike, and I always listen to Southern Gospel music while riding. The late Bubba (best animal whatever lived) loved to lay in the round, top level of the cat tree (about four feet high) and listen to the music. For some reason he seemed to prefer black artists such as Lynda Randle and Jessy Dixon. Maybe because he was mostly black.
Lately, my youngest cat, Lazarus, has started listening to the music as I ride. He comes in when I turn the stereo on and jumps up to the same place Bubba liked and listens for the entire time I ride. Lazzy seems partial to the Perrys.

Yup- King Boaz was my kitty. He was very loving and I'm sure that the family who got him will really appreciate him.
Dad (who is also the landlord) said that some of the critters needed to go. We had a total of nine cats and a puppy. One of the kittens died. King and two of the kittens found a home. Sis thinks that dad doesn't know about the puppy, but he does. He's not happy, but he's waiting for sis to tell him that she got a puppy. The only reason he knows about the puppy is because he called one day and I answered the phone while the puppy was barking. Dad doesn't like pets.

In April a feral cat that had gotten to where I could pet her had kittens. In May she was run over and killed. About three days later, on a hot evening and the electricity had gone off, I was sitting in the backyard and here came four little kittens running to me. I've been taking care of them ever since. Two girls and two boys. I already have an inside cat (male) who is 13 years old and an outside female cat who is just a little older. Our town is overrun with unwanted cats. I don't know what I am going to do with all these cats except get them NEUTERED! I am hoping that I will be able to find other people who would love a cat. These are my babies; I am their mom--they think.
I had to board them out at the vet this past weekend as I was going out of town. It was easier because I did not think my hubby would want to clean out their litter box  . They also needed to get their shots. When I went to pick them up, I noticed some packaged tidbits to sneak pills into. I'll bet cats are smart enough to figure out there's a hidden "tidbit".
