That's odd. They rate pretty high up there on the MOHS scale... not much less than hardened steel! Some kinds of garnets are used in abrasives, even.

Bit of a gemstone freak, I am. [8D] Garnet is my mama's stone. [:)]

I think people can wear whatever jewelry they decide is pretty, it doesn't have to be limited to their birthstone

YUP!!!!
My birthstone is sapphire (sept)....I have a string of pearls Paul got me from Kuwait...and a string of black pearls that I got in Germany...those I wear all the time. I don't really wear much blue, so if I got a stone in a ring or whatever I would prefer ruby...it would match most of what I wear.

I love freshwater pearls too... esp chocolate brown and black ones.

It's funny, but I only consider white, perfectly round pearls to be June's birthstone. I'm not sure where I got that idea, but I think it's pure assumption on my part.

My birthstone is Turquoise or Zircon for December. I have a ring with a turquoise stone in it that I picked out for my graduation gift. I don't have any with Zircons. I love the color blue, so I'm glad mine is blue.

My birthstone is Aquamarine. I don't care for it that much, it's too pale for me. I do have a few pieces of (not expensive) jewelry with it though. Not that I ever wear jewelry. [&:]

I found it. THIS is the pendant I was talking about. Except mine and hubby's birthstones are at the top, and the kids at the bottom.

My birthstone is diamond.

I did know it before this poll.

My engagement ring is diamond, so I do own something with my birthstone.

I don't know much about gems. I just know that is what the Shane Company told me.
