Now I'm crying too.

I'll be praying here. She sounds like a wonderful lady, Sheila.

Becky, thank you and she certainly is.... in fact, to me, even "wonderful" is putting it mildly.

She has been SUCH an inspiration and example to me of perserverence and finding your strength in nothing but the Lord. I am not even sure exactly how old she is, but she has known the Lord all of her life...she was raised in a church going Christian family and she NEVER tired of learning more about God and she was ALWAYS in awe of Him. In our classes together and in Sunday school, so many times she would just kind of "sigh" and just say "how awesome". She has truly made a difference in my life.

Actually she has a twin sister, Jeanne, that is not going real well physically either that has been an important person in my spiritual growth life as well. She was my leader in Disciple classes for three years and in other studies. She could use your prayers as well.

And of course their families.

I know there are so many people feeling this loss as great and maybe even more than I am. (and that's BIG).... so all prayers are appreciated.

I need to get to bed.

((((((( Sheila)))))))

You explained Jan soooo well. And yes, she is a spiritual rock and truly an example of a true Christian woman.
I told Barb (her daughter) that I thought Philemon 1-7 was so Jan and I truly do thank God for the Gift of her.

Paul’s Thanksgiving and Prayer

4 I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, 5 because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. 6 And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ. 7 Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.

New Living Translation

Yes it was a hard morning realizing that Jan would be going home soon but oh how you could feel the love in that sanctuary.

Jan exemplified "They we will know we are Christian by our love" to me.
She first touched my life when I was 24 years old and just gone through a divorce. She welcomed me into youth ministry with open arms. And because of that...I have been touched by her through the years by her children AND her grandchildren also.

Wish you all could have met her.

I'm desperately in need of a new recliner. The footrest on mine has absolutely no padding. It actually cuts off the circulation in my legs if I don't sit just right.

C'mon Bill, you're a man. Duct tape a pillow to it or somethin'.....don't make yourself suffer .

If it were just me that's just what I probably would have done. But my sister is a little more concerned about what the place looks like.

So now I'm sitting here in my office with a big ol' lump in my throat, and it ain't from the meatloaf sammich, either. That'll be a lump in my stomach for the rest of the afternoon.

She went home.

I called the church today to ask her niece if it'd be OK if I went to visit her but the church secretary let me know that the call had come about 30 minutes earlier that she went home to the Lord.

I am terribly sad and will miss her dearly, but at the same time thankful that she went home peacefully and quickly. I wouldn't have wanted her to suffer. And I am thankful because I know she was looking forward to giving Jesus a hug and then her husband. Praise the Lord that she is with them now and is out of her pain.

I will never forget her.

Thanks for posting that Sheila. I just got home from work a bit ago and didn't know that she was already with Jesus. I confess though that I prayed most of today that it be very quick. I had just talked to Shelly this morning before I left for work because of my unsigned check for lilies.

Thank you for the hugs

Thanks all for the hugs, everyone.

A wonderful legacy indeed. I am so thankful that she was in my path of life. She was a such an inspiration and example to me. After the experience that I felt the Spirit to tell me to go to her when I was at my bottom, I would always make a point to look for her at church and give her a hug. As physically weak as she was, she always encouraged me and reminded me that there was a reason I was here and a purpose under heaven for me. She knew that God would see me through everything and anything. She was so happy when Craig and I got together and again reminded me that God had a plan and was at work. I will NEVER forget her.

Such a contradiction of feelings. I am so sad to have lost her, but happy for her that she is with Jesus.

How fortunate you were to know someone like her. How much more fortunate Jesus is to have her there.

From the bulletin: Mix & Match is an evening of food, fun and fellowship for adults; married or single...thus mix & match! New Members always welcome!

Thanks Sheila for the invite but I will be going to the visitation for Jan on Friday evening for awhile as I wont' be able to go before the service on Saturday at 2pm because I will be over at Covenant for a 90th birthday celebration for a cousin of Jeff's that has been planned for months now. It starts at 11a.m. so I feel comfortable leaving to get over to Salem for the service.

My heart goes out to my two little "Wisconsin milkmaids" at the homegoing of their friend. She sounds very much like several of the ladies at our church who have gone to see their Lord over the last several years; always cheerful and ready to try and lift your spirits instead of you lifting theirs. And so full of faith, right up to the end.

In fact, one of them (Elizabeth Maxwell, our Associate Pastor's wife) was able to go on one last mission trip to Brazil, where she and her hubby, Jack, were both born - to missionary parents. She was quite weak before she left, but as she ministered there, the Lord gave her His supernatural strength so that she might do His will. Her "Homegoing Celebration" was just that - an all-out celebration of her life, but more important, of the greatness of God in her. It sparked the desire of many of our folks to want the same type of thing to occur when they died. One woman followed her only 3 weeks later to the day, and her wish was granted. The Lord was glorified, and people were edified by the service.

Father, comfort the hearts of all those who knew Jan with the assurance that her struggle in this life was not in vain, that she ran the race You had before her right up until she took her last breath here and her first breath in the new body which You lovingly prepared for her. And for all those who still waver in totally surrendering their lives to Jesus, let this be the catalyst which releases faith in them to believe and receive eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It's in His glorious Name I pray. Amen!

That WAS beautiful, Duane... thank you so much!!

And yes, at the time you posted we were definitely in "game mode" last night. We had A LOT of fun. I used some of the online games I play for inspiration for last night's "games". I made 5 "What would you do if" question cards, 5 "Name Three" cards and 5 "Two Truths and a Lie" cards. The Two Truth cards were all green and everyone had to pick a card without looking at the side with writing.... then after all picked the people with the green cards were given pens to write theirs and the others had to leave theirs face down and until they took a turn to share. It was a good way for people to get to know each other better with open ended questions and we had lots of laughs. VERY fun!!

This morning I've been busy recleaning the house, doing laundry, making a cake for Jans memorial dinner, scanning the rest of the pictures for the video Craig and I have to make for his dad's birthday and of course, posting in between scans and edits on forum boards.

Hi Sheila! I've just finished reading through about 7 weeks of posts in your thread. I got that far behind in all my subscriptions and am finally making my way through. Catherine's and Sharon's (I started at the bottom of my subscription list and have been working my way up) are the only ones left. Whew!

You've had some interesting times. Has Danielle heard back yet about the blood tests and what specifically is wrong?
