My water was "dripping" when I went in to the hospital with Judah - it was like I was constantly peeing my pants.
I had the cerclage in place when I went into the hospital, so they couldn't tell if I'd dilated. When they cut out the stitch I was at 4cm (I was appx. 3 cm when the cerclage was placed.)
I think he was born 4 hours after the stitch came out.
The doctor today said that the cerclage prolongs preterm labor, and his concern is that even with the cerclage I went into labor 5 weeks early.
I am quite certain they are going to give me the option to get the shots for lung development - *my* high risk doctor said he would recommend it, but my case is being handed over to the high risk specialists now, so I will see what they say.
The doctor today was marvelous, but he has me more concerned about issues than I was prior to the appointment - I thought it was *all* about my cervix dilating prematurely and a cerclage would fix that ... turns out that isn't his concern hardly at all.
I am SO GLAD that I personally know the Creator of this baby and that He is personally involved with all these details ... I just want to sit and cry and freak out, but that's so silly, and I am in awe of God's sufficient grace.

Tammy, cord prolapse is a valid concern. Acutally because Biruk kept moving around, my midwives were worried about that too. I think he did eventually engage at the very, very end. One thing the recommended to help that happen was to spend a lot of time squatting.

It's not silly to fear for your child's life and well-being, and add hormonal-ness on top of that. Not silly at all. Whenever you're in doubt, just look at Judah and know that God has THIS baby is His powerful hands too.

I think I'd definitely do the shots for lung development, if I were in your position. When would they do those?

New question (to keep this thread bumped up)
What (non medical methods) helped you the most when you were laboring?
So far I've been very much annoyed that i haven't been able to use the midwife center jacuzzi. 
With Gebre's birth, I really, really loved the birth ball. I sat on it until I was ready to push, and it was very comfortable and helpful.
I think Biruk was in a different position because my labor was so different pain-wise, and I probably couldn't have used the ball even if I'd had time to. In early labor a hot shower felt sooooooo wonderful. Wish I could have stayed in there the whole time! With him, all I could do was find the position that felt good (bent over) and stick with it.
With both of them I did a lot of self-talk, telling myself over and over that I could do it, that the feelings were normal, that I was going to get a baby out of all this, etc. It sounds dumb but it really did help me keep from panicking.
And keeping my tones very low if I yelled. I did a lot of yelling with Biruk.  But anytime I started to sound shrill, the midwives would remind me to lower my tone and roar instead of scream.

My midwife taught me to drop my chin as low as I could and make a round sound--"Open mouth, open cervix!" is what she kept saying, lol.

I have a question about birth balls. I am having a home birth so I will have to get my own. Is it the same thing as an exercise ball? What size should it be? I think when I looked at the store they had 55 inch, 65 inch, and 75 inch.

yes...pretty much the same thing just sold in different areas and for different prices....it's all about marketing!!!
I would say for the size you really need to see what you are most comfortable balancing on

So when I took "Lamaze" or whatever they called it way back when (early 90s) they told us to push without making noise, so all our energy was going into pushing. That was really hard. Now I'm starting to think that it was just for the comfort of the doctors and nurses.
I remember the nurses reminding me to not make noise while pushing, although I don't think I always listened.

It was really hard for me to hear. They also were a primarily French-speaking hospital, but my sister speaks very little French. They would often talk (clearly about her) in French and then not translate. They also tried to break her water without telling her what they were doing. The doctor said she was just checking her and then when she wasn't looking got the hook out. My sister was like "what are you doing?" and they wouldn't tell her! I demanded they tell her and they eventually said "oh it's okay dear, we're just trying to break your water." She was only 1 cm dilated. Sigh.

WOW! That is grounds imo, if something had gone wrong, for a lawsuit. They were clearly NOT acting in either her or her baby's best interest. Did she report those doctors/nurses to the Canadian equivalent of the AMA?

Thanks, Clag! It was such an honour to be there and I'm certainly glad I was there for what I was ... when her baby was born and wasn't breathing (his 1 minute apgar was I think a 2 or 3), NO ONE was telling her anything. I was the only one explaining what was happening and encouraging her to talk to him and call to him, and telling her husband to get over there and see his child. It was such a frustrating labour/birth to witness!
Sadly, I'm not sure she saw anything wrong with what happened - she did at the time, but I'm not sure she blames any of it on the OB! I haven't actually talked to her about it ... I'm afraid I'd get too upset! I was thinking about it today and she was induced due to "non-reassuring fetal heart tones" but the entire induction his heart tones were fine ... hmmm ...

pit didn't work with me on my second labor...induced for medical reasons. Full pit drip for over 8 hours with nothing happening...not even a twinge. Because it was medically necessary they were on a time line, and they decided to try breaking my water before they went straight to C-sec. It worked...within minutes of them breaking my water I had started labor. 8 hours later (my shortest labor to date!!!) she was born.

I really don't think it would. I'm not a fan of induction in general, but breaking the waters intentionally is probably more likely to set you up for a labor full of interventions. Especially since you are then put on a time-clock, and if your body's not ready, it's not going to respond well. I know of one labor where the woman was tired of being pregnant and wanted to go ahead and have the baby. The woman was not in any form of labor, but the doctor went ahead and broke her waters at 2 cm. The baby was not even engaged when he broke her waters, and she ended up with a cord prolapse. That turned into an automatic c-section. And of course no one said, "Wow, we shouldn't have induced so early or broken the waters when your body clearly wasn't ready for labor." Instead they said, "Wow, it's a good thing you decided to induce labor. Without us, your baby would have died." No one seemed to get it that the OB actually created the dangerous situation

Walking, moving and changing positions lots, self-talk, having my husband put gentle pressure on my shoulders and back, visualization of the body working, breathing in an even and deep manner, eating and drinking yummy things
Things that didn't help:
Doing "horse-lips" (I HATED doing that), crawling around on hands and knees to get the to baby shift back (her head was coming at an angle so they were trying to get me in a position that would fix her head positioning), people talking (that really annoyed me), and sitting in a birthing pool (I was at 9cm, but it completely stalled out my labor - I think the water was too hot).

Yes and I think mine is 65 inch. If you are on the shorter side, go for 55 inch. I found mine at Walmart for around $13.00.
