All days but one I start work after 12 PM, but to me it is still like morning because I stay up til 4 AM and then only wake up half an hour before going. Most days I am late too because I do not manage time well enough.

It has been a long while since I have done any devotions at all.

At lot of times when I am at work I will think, "If I could stay at home for a week, I would like to do _____ and ____ and ____." But then I realize that I was unemployed for two months this summer, and I didn't do much of anything. I wonder how much I would get done if I could just worked part-time?

PC, I think the same things. Of course, I tell myself that when I was unemployed, my full time job was to find a full time job. Which was true to great extent. I spent about 10 hours every day dealing with some part of my job search.

Well, I have weekends off, but they're harder than the work week My husband's a pastor in a small town an hour away from where we live, so we drive down on Saturday afternoons and spend the night with my parents. Then we get to church at 7:30 on Sunday mornings, have a few hours off in the afternoon before AWANA starts at night. All in all, we're gone from Saturday afternoon until late Sunday night. It wouldn't be bad if we lived in the same town as the church, but not having anywhere to go in between church and AWANA, and having to spend Saturday night at my parents' house is a pain. When Gabe graduates, we'll move down there if they can take him on full time.

I work M-F, 6:30am-4:30pm.

My job is M-F 9-5, and an average of 2 Saturdays a month, 9-12. I say an average because we are flexible. Some months I work every other, sometimes 2 on, 2 off, sometimes 3 off, sometimes all of them, depending on what everyone has going on. We work with each other on it.

I also work 8a-5p M-F; sometimes it's more 8:30a-5:30a. Wednesdays I work from home. My company is shut down during the weekend so no weekend work but a lot of people email still and do work. Sometimes I'll log into my work email over the weekend just to keep on top of it.

Ha! Not me! I work ten hour shifts on the weekends.

Up until this week my days off were Monday and Friday (not so nice).

Starting next week I got my schedule rearranged so I can have Monday and Tuesday off. Two days in a row will be so nice.
I will have:
Monday + Tuesday: off
Wednesday: 1 to 9:30 PM
Thursday: 10:30 AM to 7 PM
Friday 1 to 5 PM
Saturday + Sunday: 1:30 PM to 12 AM

I have the weekend off. I forget how nice that is now that I've grown accustomed to it. My old job (which I had for 7 years) I worked a lot of saturdays, now I never do.

My hours are Mon - Thurs 9:00 - 6:00, Fri 9:00 - 3:00 (sometimes 4:00). However, before the start of a term, I put in a lot more hours. This past week I worked several 11-12 hour days.

My mornings usually start around 6:30. I used to be a get-ready-at -night person, but now that my job starts later, I have more time in the morning to get ready. I'd rather spend my time at night doing other things. I hate getting home late (usually 6:30 or later). By the time we have dinner it's sometimes past 7:30. It doesn't leave much time to do other things like run errands or housework. Does anyone else feel that way who may work later than 5:00?

Does anyone else get home much later than their husbands? What do you do for dinner? My DH is practically salivating at the door by the time I get home (and it's not for me ). I'm tired of crock pot recipes. I really try to have things ready, like something DH can just stick in the oven, but honestly, I just don't always think about it the night before.

I work Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-5. Sometimes hubby and I will set up estimates and interviews on the weekends for our cleaning business. but we have nothing this weekend! In a way I wish we did have an interview because we NEED another employee or two! Seriously I love my weekends! My husband is usually off too and we have a great time even just running errands and such.

Depending on what area of the country you live in, I'd really recommend Dinner A'fare. You prepare 12 meals in 2 hours at their site, then bring home and freeze. Tonight I took at Vegetarian Lasagna directly out of the freezer and popped it into the oven. Cooking directions are provided, and it's usually real simple. So, it's cooked fresh the night you eat, but all the prep work is done ahead of time, and there's a nice variety in the menu. Saves time shopping, too. Here's the list of meals I prepared this month. (Oh, and it's a ton of fun! )

Tomato-Sausage Stuffed Pork Chops
Coconut Shrimp with Raspberry Dipping Sauce
Mongolian Beef Noodle Bowls
South of the Border Pork Tenderloin with Spanish Rice
Italian Style Stuffed Turkey Burgers
Parmesan Tilapia
Cajun Flank Steak
Sweet and Sour Cashew Pork
Finger Lick’n Chicken with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Barbeque Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Roasted Vegetable Lasagna
Fiesta Chicken Chowder

We have those types of dinner places around here. I would love to try it but I think it is probably outside of our budget. I always thought it would be fun to do together as a baby shower gift. You could get together with a bunch of women and cook and have fun together and the mom to be would have a fully stocked freezer.

I have weekends off. In fact, I work 9-80's so I get every other Friday off. It's so wonderful. It's nice to have that every other Friday off so I can get stuff done. I hate grocery shopping on the weekend, so it's nice to in on my Friday in the morning and beat the crowds.

I work M-F from 7 to 4. I chose to set my hours early. I go in early while DH gets the kids ready and out, then I am able to be home with them longer in the afternoon.

I didn't bother reading all the posts in this thread since I am coming in so late, but what I did read bothered me a lot.

Supposedly this was to be a WAFH or work for pay support thread..and it is more of a trash those who have different lives thread.

I have heard how SAHM moms do not have "BROAD" enough topics...(yet amazingly when I was a SAHM mom..I had a terrible time getting the WAFH moms to talk about anything other than work...like say... a good book, or some theology or philosphy or anything intellectual...nope just water cooler gossip)...and how they are proud, arrogant, etc.

I have heard how homeschoolers are "nazi's". I find that very offensive on several fronts. First and foremost..."nazi" is not a term that should EVER EVER be applied to anything other than the political movement that lead to the death and annihiliation of 11 million people. It is offensive to me and it is offensive to my Jewish friends as well for it to be used to describe anything else.

Secondly, the people talking this way were complaining about homeschoolers being uneducated and yet in their own posts, they were using poor grammar and failing to capitalize correctly!

As someone trained to be a teacher...I can tell you that what I learned about teaching is that you DON'T know what you are doing anymore than anyone else...you just have been given a piece of paper giving you permission to experiment on other people's children. Seriously.

I hope that the tone of this thread improves. I hope that working moms can honestly support each other without having to tear down another group of women behind their backs....because to be honestly with you...no one really cares. Seriously. You are the only one who cares about the gripes you have against anyone.

Being a mom means being a working mom, some of us just have to take another job (or want to) on top of our full-time one of being mommy or wife. That does need support, but it is never good to build support up on the tearing down of other groups...EVER.

I won't be participating in this thread past this post simply because I cannot get the support I need from this type of thread. I honestly hope it will turn into a more supportive thread for others who work away from home or work for pay out of their home.

I will agree with WOF. There are many women, on this forum even, who homeschool their children but work outside the home. There are many others who would prefer to live the SAHM lifestyle and identify themselves with that lifestyle but because of circumstances beyond their control must work at least part-time. THere have been many posts in this thread that seem to make it seems like this thread is only really for those who want to work outside the home or want to have a career. If that is what this is for fine but make that clear.

As a HSing mom you are held to a higher standard, like it or not. If my spelling and grammar is terrible, then I'm only hurting myself. If your spelling and grammar were terrible (and I'm not saying it is), then that speaks to the quality of your kids' education. Maybe that's not fair, but life is not fair.

Well, exactly. By keeping the gripes in a single thread, they can vent and not bother anyone else who doesn't care. And it's not behind anyone's back. Anyone is free read this thread.

If you aren't going to be participating, they why the post? So you can chastise and then walk out? Sounds a little silly to me.

The overall culture of females for CW is to natural birth, breast feed, SAH, and HS. Those outside the mainstream often must defend their choices from those who have no trouble criticizing them, and then try to carve out a niche for themselves here.

Ok, not sure I'll be accepted on this thread. (So please tell me to shut up if need be.)

I'm a single mother, work outside the home (in the military), and homeschool my two sons, ages 5 and 4. This means I usually get the dirty looks from every side. Anyway, I try to have as much as possible done the night before, food/clothes/etc. My schedule changes every three months so I'm not able to keep my sons with me for longer than six months at a time.

If anyone has tips on working the graveyard shift, working with T/W off, or working with no lunch breaks I would love to hear them.

Except when the words 'painting witha broad brush' are used...and that then tends to include 'all' SAHM's.

That's not completely true either. Even if your kids aren't being homeschooled they'll still pick up on 'your poor grammar' which will effect his/her education. Most kids who aren't hsed will also, as far as my experience is concerned at some point or other ask either mom or dad for help with homework. So, if your grammar/spelling/math skills aren't up to par then your child will suffer then too...from incorrect help from the parent.

quote:

Well, exactly. By keeping the gripes in a single thread, they can vent and not bother anyone else who doesn't care. And it's not behind anyone's back. Anyone is free read this thread.

Griping is different than bashing SAHM's and homeschoolers as unintelligent or uneducated and doing their kids a disservice:

quote:

homeschool people is the fact they they themselves have a limited education base...which is fine, but even with my college degree i wouldn't dare try to teach my kids something like math (which i'm not very good at) or science...bleh...i'd want to leave that to someone who knows what they are doing.

quote:

I agree once again! Children learn language from what is being spoken around them. If they hear me call something by an incorrect term, they are going to keep calling it by the incorrect term. Maybe some people think that it is cute for a baby (drives me nuts) but I really cant stand to see a parent do it)

For the record when did potty become an 'incorrect' term for toilet?

that we SAHM's don't have broad enough interests...

quote:

I also find that I have an easier time socializing with working women, just because I tend to have more in common with them, and the conversation does tend to be...perhaps broader is the best term.

quote:

I cant stand when a 30 yr old mom is talking about how little bubba went tinkle in the pottie because he is getting ready for big boy pants and no more diapie/wipies...first off, you're 30....stop talking like that.

quote:

Not only do I not understand talking baby talk to grown-ups...I'm not sure I understand using it with babies.

quote:

There is more to me than my uterus, offspring,

that we're stuck with our kids (and secretly must not like it):

quote:

I know!! When this happened to be, I was (halfway) listening, but I was also wondering if she had been stuck in the house all day and just couldnt wait to tell this story to someone (that's what it seemed like)

The above quoted posts make me sad. I truly have nothing against working moms, especially single working mothers. But the above posts make it sound like all SAHM's only talk about baby poop and that we only think we're 'valuable' because we've got offspring and a uterus and that we have no intelligible thoughts outside if 'the little ones' are potty trained. Whereas 'working women' (outside the home, I work very hard) have a very broad knowledge base and have tons of interesting conversation, etc. I love to talk politics, theology, baseball, babies, childbirth, etc. Anything that strikes my fancy.

I think we should all give each other a bit of a break.

*sigh*

It seems like when a new thread starts with certain parameters someone gets hurt.

The first few pages did bash the lifestyle of those who stay home. The OP asked that not happen but it did. But it settled down.

WOF is a working outside the home woman and perhaps (speaking for her, I don't know) thought she could get some tips and support and instead what she read on the first few pages dismayed her.

Since I was the one who used the term breadth of conversation, I'll respond to that.

I was responding to the question as to whether most of my social circle was SAH or WOH. Most of my social circle is WOH, and I speculated that it was because the breadth of topics of conversation was wider among people who work outside the home. My personal experience has been that the SAH mothers I have met spend a larger percentage of their time talking about matters of the home and the children than either WOH women, or men in general. It may be influenced by where I live, the industry I work in, the hobbies in which I participate, and may age (as most women my age have younger children who are more dependent). YMMV. Breadth of conversation does not equate to intelligence or quality of person, only to their focus in life and what they choose to talk about. Anyone who chooses to attach those elements to it does so themselves, by their own choice, not as a result of anything I said.

I'm sorry you aren't getting what you were looking for in this thread. Maybe you can add something constructive by suggesting topics of conversation that better fit your needs.
