Yeah, he was a little early. Like 12 weeks...

We officially move tomorrow or friday and we are moving 1100 miles away. I report to work on Tuesday so we don't have a whole lot of time to get things toether and organized and the kids start school on August the 19th..... good days ahead.

Whoa, that's quite a schedule. I hope everything goes well/smoothly.

I'll probably start setting up my classroom next week. I sure never thought I'd be teaching again this year, but that's how things are going to be. Oh well. I'm trying to get things organized for my husband to take over some of my "domestic responsibilities." I'm a little nervous about that

That's crazy, Fahwitt (sp?)

But...I did something very similar. Left for a 1500 mile move on Wed...arrived here early Friday morning. We have been working on unpacking (mind you the AC isn't working properly & it's 107 here today)....

I was thankful to be able to GO to work....where there was air conditioning. It's supposed to be fixed tomorrow.

I'm going to the school tomorrow to start working in my classroom... they probably won't have the AC on yet. They usually don't turn it on until the "official" workweek (Aug. 18) and even then, they only turn it on downstairs, so my upstairs classroom will probably still be uber-hot. Ah well... even with the AC on, my classroom usually doesn't get below 80* until the outside temperature drops into the 70s or below

I got my schedule today and it doesn't look too bad. They are making cut backs on teaching positions, so I'm going to be traveling between two schools this year. But my traveling period is back-to-back with my lunch period, so that should give me some wiggle room in case I'm running behind and I'm in the same classroom all morning at one school and the same classroom all afternoon at the other school, so I won't have to switch rooms every period like I was afraid I would. Overall, if I have to travel, I'm not to upset about this schedule. Now we'll just see who's in my classes

Best of luck to all of you teachers!!

I have put in my notice here at the optometrist's office. Monday the 11th will be my last day. It is hard to stay motivated here. Then on the 13th we will be opening our restraunt!! I asked Ryan last night, "do you really think we will be opening on the 13th?" And he replied with a very confident , "Yes". I can't wait. Yes, I will still be working, but I know that with this job, it is all for the family and it is something that as the kids get older they will work for us and hopefully some day one of them will want to take it over.

Okay, so there is a cricket here in the office. It starts and stops. Come on man! Either start and chirp for a while or just stop. After all silence is golden.

Did you know they are telling you the temperature? You count the chirps and do something - can't recall what. It makes me wonder if it stops when the AC kicks on, you know, too cold for him.

We have a bathroom problem today.

They have suggested we leave the light on all the time. This is a problem because you are not allowed to walk into the bathroom if the light is on because a co-worker has ISSUES that prevent her from using the facilities if someone else is in there. She also scrubs the toliet before she uses it. Folks - we have a sitting / changing room you walk through before the two stall facilities. But, we don't want to leave the door open wide so that folks forget we have a couch and easy chair in there.

If that is someones biggest problem (wanting privacy), may I refer them to Erin's thread, or Donna's or Nan's or tell them to as Sue about her grandbabies or Sals brother (last two at work) KWIM?

I'm complaining too, but only because it is so STUPID! I never walk in if the door is shut, in case someone is changing clothes. I can't believe I wasted work time giving an opinion about what to do. And, of course I was respectful of the ISSUES that folks have.

I also suggested hanging a sock on the door like they do in college dorms...

Well, we talked about a sign like you'd have on a dishwasher, but I joked it would always say dirty (because I wish the janitor did more than empty the trash)

I couldn't get why it was a big deal. The door closes tight. It has a lock. What difference does it make????

I was playing with the crickets too.

I used to catch them and bring them in for story time at the library. I can tell the boys from the girls and we would feed them for about a week and I was able to enjoy them in the house....

Yikes! School starts on Thursday! I am in my building now :) Just came home for lunch...guess that's one benefit to setting up my classroom...yay!

I feel so bad cuz I'm already unpacked. Guess that is what happens when you are a new teacher & don't have much....

I do need to get a few bulletin boards set up, but I can knock those out pretty quick. The main thing I need to do is to be able to get to "know" my kids before they come in the classroom. (They all have IEPs as I am teaching special ed K-2 this year).

Erin, my three pepper plants are bearing a huge harvest this summer! I've picked over 12 peppers from my container!

daughter_of_faith, God bless you for the work that you do with your students. IEPs stretch your creativity in imparting information to the max!

::::PRAISE REPORT::::::

I have finally (almost) finished moving from the central campus to the southern campus in my new position.

About three weeks ago, I finally received the job description. I had no real choice in making the transition from one job title/position to another, as the funding for our positions changed guidelines for payment. For those of you in education: Perkins Grant changes.

Anywho..........

I made the move from being a Career Center Coordinator the last four years to Career & Technical Programs Specialist. The duties are vastly different and much more tied to performance issues.

The job description floored me. As the minimum requirements read, I was THREE credits short, ONE class short of meeting them! Thankfully, well before the changes for positions was even announced, I had enrolled for that very course this semester. (God is good!) Therefore, they did not disqualify me. I would have been UNEMPLOYED.

About a week after that, I received notification from HR about my salary. I was scared to death to read it. I was previously at an expertise level of coordinator..........the new job is at the level of specialist.

My salary remains UNCHANGED. (God is SO good!)

Finally, collegewide the deans have been lamenting the closure of their career centers. So, they began searching their budgets to support the centers now that they are off grant monies.

TODAY in a inter-college email they released a opportunity announcement for Career Center Coordinator on the campus that I just moved to. I guess that they found monies to fund hiring someone to continue the services provided there. However, the salary announced for the position is:
.

.

.

.

FOUR THOUSAND dollars less annually than my salary.

Praises be to our God for moving me when he did! Praise be to Him that works all things for our good!

God is SO SO SO good!!!

Well, we actually pushed the opening date back a week. We were not going to have enough time to make it the 13th. We still need servers. We have advertised but no takes yet. Also, we were given a $10k USDA loan from the city. We are so stoked about that because now our opening costs are definitely covered. Thanks for asking Bee!!

Hi ya'll here's my intro..I am a working mommy, after about 10 years of being a SAHMW. Wow, divorce can really kick you in the teeth...lol. Currently I work at Burger King as a regular crew member, but just recently graduated from the CNA program at our local community college, and will be boarding out for it this coming Saturday. I am extremely nervous about that. So with God's help, life is finally getting good. I set aside my dreams of my RN degree, for my family. But now it's time to get down to business. Thank you for posting this thread. S

I too am newly working outside the home after quite awhile.

Three weeks ago I answered an ad in the newspaper for transportation drivers needed at a child placement (foster care) facility.
I got the job and now I transport children anywhere from birth to 18 from foster home to supervised visits with parents and back to placement, placement to home visits and back, and to court proceedings.

I LOVE IT!!!!

I feel for the first time in my working outside the home life that I am doing something positive for someone, that maybe in the time these children are in my care they can find in me a person they can open up to and trust. These children are hurt, confused and angry at the situation and need someone to just listen without judging.
May God help me be that person.

And as a bonus, I get paid to do it!

I've been looking at this thread from the outside for some time, just never quite making it in here.

I've been working full-time again since the beginning of this year, a little bit of a culture shock for our children (now 11 and 13) who have been used to me being home nearly their whole lives.

And we have a photocopier like your cricket, intermittent squeakiness.

Oh yeah - I have a co-worker that works intermittently...

Bee! So good on the job and being able to turn over the keys. Although, there have been a few times I'd like to be able to say 'that is in the other office, I'll get back to you'
