No kids yet (well no kids outside of my belly yet!), but I really dont see too much change coming as far as our shopping. Right now we do all the grocery shopping together, and we'll probably still do it that way with baby, or hubby will just stay home. As far as non grocery shopping, clothes, etc., we do alot online, or my MIL and I go on some weekend or something. I dont really buy many clothes.

MBee, I do most of my clothes shopping online. :) thankfully I don't have too much to send back, just once in a while Linz has something to take back.

I will admit that I buy alot of clothes, but I think looking nice is important and since I've changed sizes it's been important to change my wardrobe to fit my new body... What was appropriate at a 6 just is not so at a 10.

I usually go on the weekend, we leave right after nap time and that gives me a good 3 hours to get my shopping done before we need to be home.

I shop alot for clothes....... but only buy when I find something that meets my criteria. Yeah...... I'm picky.

But I do like clothes shopping.

As a "fluffy" person, I am very picky about what I wear. LOL

Kath, I love going to the book store! It is cheap and peaceful!!!

Same thing for the beach! Cheap (parking is .75)

I think a reason I dont do TOO much clothes shopping, or shopping of anykind, because living in a small town it takes planning a trip to get anywhere where there are places to shop (besides Walmart or small boutiques that are pricey pricey).

I'm with you Erin. It is a TRIP rather than fun. I do like hitting the goodwill and consignment shops. Poppa gets frustrated with searching and finding nothing.

I didn't know I needed clothes. I need a new pair of grey pants. How can they get too short and still be loose elsewhere???

Honestly that's about the only 'shopping' that I enjoy. I could spend hours in a good bookstore...especially a Christian Bookstore like Family or Lifeway. Just don't ask me to go shopping for anything else, or I'm headed to my laptop to see if I can order it to be delivered...lol.

I DETEST the mall...I'd rather go to the dentist and get all my teeth pulled than have to go there! I hate shopping for clothes...probably because I rarely find ones I like anyway these days...the styles are either suitable for a retirement home or aren't suitable for anyone with a shred of modesty...it's rare to find anything in-between anymore.

Lol, Lisa. I felt that way last year. This year hasn't been so bad but I've mostly been sticking to "preppier" styles. Polo's, Fitted t-shirt with a tank underneath, Izod button down's, etc... I'm a huge Old Navy fan for shirts but I buy most of my jeans from the thrift store. I have 4 pairs of Banana Republic jeans that I bought for $5 a pair! It's such a steal!

I would click on the old navy and gap sales and get really cute clothes for linz for like 6 bucks for a teeshirt. Now she likes wet seal and forever 21. They aren't too bad either price wise.

Bookstores for me too. I like walmart or the grocery if I can drive the electric cart. Sams Club has a wonderful, really big electric cart. My knees back hurt too much otherwise. Forget malls. I think I'd like the mall if I had a hover round to drive (have you seen the commercials with the old ladies sitting at the grand canyon?) I'd love to have one of those.

That tends to be my casual style...I stay away from anything that's button up as it appears that clothing manufactuers believe it impossible for a size 6 to also be a DD . At work we all have to wear suits and then have uniform button down shirts...the last time we ordered new ones it cost me $70 to have an extra large one taken apart by a tailor and put back together to fit me...lol.

I stick with the same few stores and I know what size I need in them. And like Erin, I live in a rural area and it is a major trip to go to a mall. The closest Wal-mart is 20 miles away and the closest mall is 40 miles. Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle to get out.

i really hate shopping of any kind. i am a go-in-and-get-what-i-came-for kinda girl..i hate browsing, i just don't really do it. if i need something, i go into the store and get that thing, and then i leave.

if i need clothes, i go into the store and head for the sale rack...if there isn't anything on that rack, then i just go home and look through my closets again. i almost never buy anything that isn't on sale.

Me either...at least not in the way of clothing. I really hate to spend money on myself anyway...so if I can't at least justify it with a good deal I'm very unlikely to buy anything at all.

I am thinking of pulling my kids out of daycare a few days a week this summer and asking a young girl from our church to keep them in our home. I think it will be good to give them a little break and sleep in, etc...
I just hope the routine change isn't a negative one.

Have any of you working mom's used both daycare and in home care? How did it work out?

Also, how much can I expect to pay her? Daycare is costing me around $40 a day.

I'd look into how day care would charge you and what would they miss? I know that when DeeDee was in drop-in, she'd ask to go the next day because they went to the pool that day. (I always left her on Wednesday - pool was Tuesday / Thursday)

I think that 'missing' something would be more upsetting than staying at home.

I am pretty sure they would let me pay per day.

You are right about not wanting to miss things. Last week was Dr. Suess week and they had all kind of activities planned. The baby was sick on Wednesday and I stayed home with him. I asked Ella if she would like to stay home with Mommy too and she said "No, I can't miss green eggs and ham day!. Mommy is chopped liver compared to green eggs and ham ya know .

I sometimes did both.

It saved me cash...... and it gave my kidlets time to be "unstructured".

I do believe that imaginative and unstructured play has a great value. It is important for kids to socialize and know how to "do school/daycare", but I think it is just as important to have pajama days, thumbing through books and playing with dirt in the yard until they have had their fill.

They most likely WILL complain of missing some things. But I noticed that my kidlets were less "wound up" after a few days of unstructured home time.

I know you are a great momma, having read many of your posts. I'm sure that you will figure out what works for you.

I just wanted to share what worked well for us from ages 3 to 6.

Hugs!

Speaking of which, I met my mom at that same mall last Wednesday. It's nice! I like the play area for the kids.

dH also mentioned last weekend, that we should get our families together at the Douglasville Olive Garden sometime, if you don't mind breaking bread with Lutherans.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled topic.

That would be super. We actually need to go over that way. I finally had my diplomas framed and I have to pick them up over there.

YAY! I am excited.

How old is the girl from church? Are you wanting to save money by pulling them out of daycare?

When I was nannying or working as an Au Pair the rate was around $150-180 a week for 1-2 children depending on how many activities they were participating in. I would do it in a heart beat and give them the chance to sleep in, go to the pool, park, etc... I have some good Au Pair hiring sites if you want some links, we are leaning towards that this summer when I have to classes.

LOL. So Lutherans and Baptist have that in common too!

I'm not really looking to save money but I just want an idea of what the cost would be. The main purpose would be to give them a break from the structure of daycare. Not that structure is bad, but I think a break in the summer would be fun for them.

The girl I am thinking of asking is 15. I know that is young, but she is very responsible. Also, her parents are foster-parents and she has had a lot of experience taking care of children. I need to talk it over with her parents first to see if it's something they even want her to do. We'll see.

I would also ask her parents what they are comfortable with her being paid...
