What do you think about that girl who just got married and her husband thought she's really good-- Barbie and Ken . I thought they were cute though.

Man, I would have hated to be at their dinner table that night.

My mind was wondering when she was singing and he was just so excited that I was thinking, 'wonder what she's wearing when she was singing to him since...you know they're still newly weds

By the way, Alexis ("Glitter Girl") admitted that she was faking her outburst. Not surprising.

Where did you read that? The article in our local paper quoted her mom as saying she wished Alexis had a bit more "subdued", but it didn't quote Alexis as all.

It was in a video interview I watched online. If I run across it again I'll post it.

I thought it was interesting. A newspaper article recently pointed out that with the exception of Jordin, all the winners have come from the South. Yes, Carrie was from Oklahoma, but the article said that you could stretch to include her since her hometown was near the Texas border. Even if you don't include her, though, that's still 4 out of 6--Kelly, Reuben, Fantasia, and Taylor. Not to mention runner-up successes like Clay and Daughtry. The article tried to speculate on this phenomenon, but didn't come to any conclusions. Any thoughts?

I have some of my own, but since I'm from Texas, I'm rather biased.

All the runner-ups (minus Katharine and Blake) have come from the South as well.

Honestly, if I had to guess, I think it's a Bible belt correlation. They grow up singing in church, and voila -- they turn out to be good singers as young adults as well. The fact of the matter is that going to church gets people singing at a younger age than they probably would otherwise.

I was thinkin' more along the lines of "Those people down there don't have anything better to do with their time?"

I was thinking along those lines myself. Most people down here go to church, where you learn melody and harmony early. It's not just AI, either. Elvis started out doing gospel and so do many country singers.

In addition, we have a much richer musical tradition because of the African-American influence. Jazz, blues, R & B, gospel, not to mention the white folk music tradition...when you've absorbed all that growing up, then you're bound to turn out a good singer or two.

I've been doing some mental excercise by trying to recall the runners-up without looking at any external source.

1. Justin
2. Clay
3. ?
4. Bo
5. Katherine
6. Blake (To be honest, I'd forgotten him until I read your post, Nick. Shows you how memorable last season was. )

Ok, I give up. Who's number three? And I know Katherine was from California, but where was Blake from? And Justin? I had no idea he was a Southerner.

While we're on the subject, where's Jordin from?

This should give us something to do until tomorrow night.

Like you wouldn't believe!!!!! His mom is the best singer I have ever heard in my life, his brother is fantastic. I remember hearing his grandma and grandpa sing. So yeah---really strong musical roots. Gospel music roots.

Diana De Garmo. She's on Broadway, 'not sure if she's still doing Hairspray.

Yeah, it's Diana DeGarmo. Extremely forgettable.

Blake is from Washington state.

Justin was born in Georgia, but later moved to Pennsylvania.

Jordin is from Arizona.

I told my hubby that Colton was going to win this year. He has a great voice. His brief on-air time showed him to be a nice person. He has the looks to get all the young girls to vote for him.

Diana was from Georgia, born in Alabama.

Since Carrie was the first of her kind, I can see many more wanting to follow her because the chances are greater w/ AI than the show that was focused strictly on country music. It's not going to matter at all if the country singers win or not, they have great potential of being picked up regardless of what number they are voted out on.

I think all winners, with the exception of Taylor, seem to be hidden extremely well during the audition process. Very little focus is put on the extreme potential to poke fun at the silly. It was obvious Taylor was going to be pointed out because of his hair color & harmonica. You don't really get a sense of who the prominent ones will be until the final selections are made (12). k

There were really some doozies (sp?) today. Alberto was really unusual. The girl who thought she sounded like Mariah Carey really made me life.

I didn't realize it was only on an hour. I really liked Colten's voice.

I tried to find the right channel last night, and did finally find it, but the channel was fuzzy and had lines going up and down so we watched a repeat show of NCIS instead. I hope the channel isn't like that when the REAL competition part starts.

What kind of state is your antenna in Sarah? It sounds like either you might need an amplifier put into it to boost that channel or some part of the cable between the tv and antenna isn't attached properly.

Or it could be like we have and you have something (in our case two trees and a couple of three storey buildings) between your house and where the signal is coming from.

If you've got cable there shouldn't be that kind of interference. I'll ask dh when he gets home what he knows of that might cause that problem. He did cable installations for a while so he might know something I don't.

I think it's actually the station itself....it's always doing weird stuff like that. Looks like their feed from their satellite maybe isn't very strong at times so it broadcasts very weak...which looks horrible compared to those cable channels. (I used to work in and I grew up in television...so I know a little about it. My dad is a TV and radio engineer. In fact he used to run cable line a long time ago....his team did the whole state of Rhode Island...lol!!!)

I just read this in Beliefnet today. Evidently, it's reprinted from a book entitled, Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul. It's about some girl named Kendall Estep who auditioned for AI back in 2005. She had grown up with Tourette's, and then suffered an accident that left her paralyzed. After a few months of rehab, she was able to audition. Her mother (who wrote the article) says that she made it to Hollywood but not the Top 24. However, now Kendall has recorded a CD with John Cougar Mellencamp's band and appeared on CMT's Music City Madness.

First of all, has anyone heard of this girl?

Second, does anyone find the idea of an entire book written for Idol fanactics and about Idol wannabees just a little creepy?

Here's the full story about Kendall.

I'll bet there's more than a few of them. About and written by.

Hello All! Well I just found out that my best friends son is going to be on american idol Wed night. His name is Luke Menard. He is an awesome singer. And just a wonderful guy who loves the Lord very much. He has been singing in an accapala (SP)group called Chapter 6. He is the nicest person and i have known him since he was a little guy. I am praying for him, he feels this is a way of being able to spread the word of Jesus. SO GO FOR IT LUKE!!!!!!

I dont remember seeing Luke. Some of the ones I did see were so horrible I had to leave the room. I did see one guy that was good... Chris something...and the last guy they let in was really good...I would have liked to have heard some of the females that they only showed coming out the door with a ticket to Hollywood. I think a lot of good ones slid right by and there will be some stiff competition in Hollywood.

So much of what they actually showed last night seemed more like a freak show than someone with talent.
