We have a new foster baby at home. As in, we brought him home straight from the hospital when he was 2 weeks old, NEW. This is our first child of any kind to have around, and I'm sure you all know that there have been MAJOR changes in our life over the last 2 months since this happened. While I was freaking out the day after we brought baby Will home (what have we done? WHY would they give us a NEW HUMAN when we've never had any before??? Are we crazy?), DH was taking it all in stride and taking care of the baby so I could have my meltdown. Here's what makes me melt in a good way: Every night we take turns sleeping with the baby, I get him from 10pm-2:30-ish and DH stays with him for the rest of the night. This ensures that we each get a decent rest for the next day, or so I thought. For the first 3 weeks, DH was really, really tired in the mornings but still his normal happy self. One day I finally mentioned that I would stay with the baby for a whole night if he wanted to rest really well. He told me he didn't think that was fair because then I wouldn't get any sleep at all. I replied that I thought it would be fine for one night since I can sleep between feedings. He looked at me really strangely and said "We can sleep between feedings? I thought we were supposed to be watching him". No wonder he was so tired!!! He was holding and staring at the baby all night! I gently explained that he doesn't need to be watched 24/7, we can get SOME sleep. He has totally fallen in love with this little guy, and it's just made me love him even more.
