Do you play video games?
What system or games do you enjoy most?

Does your significant other play video games and how do you feel about that?

I got thinking about this the other night when I saw that Xbox has a special night each week for women to go online and play against just women.

Are there any other gamer girls out there?

Even if you're not into video games, feel free to post!

Nicole_Michelle -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/3/2008 11:38:09 PM)

Yep, I have always played video games. Growing up we had every Nintendo system. My brother bought them and all the games.

Lorne and I have a PS2. My favorite game right now is Ratchet and Clank! We have number 1 and 3 and my brother just lent us 2 which we both just started to play. We take turn playing levels. [:D] We have been playing a lot lately cuz I have been feeling under the weather and don't feel like doing much at night.

We also both have a Nintendo DS. BEST SYSTEM EVER! We are loving Mario Party and Mario Kart.

uponeagleswings -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:01:00 AM)

We have a Wii that DH bought with some birthday money. I like it because the controls are intuitive and pretty easy for me to get the hang of. The only game we have to play together is Wii Play, but we'll probably get Mario Galaxy with some Christmas money. I can't wait for MarioKart to come out on the Wii.

DH and I also like computer games- he plays some RPG's that I don't have any interest in, but we both like Civilization IV- we've had some all night sessions of that! He was trying to re-teach me to play Starcraft, but its not very beginner-friendly.

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:03:17 AM)

Stacy, DH loves Starcraft and is practically peeing his pants for the second version to come out[8|] He keeps harassing my to learn Diablo, which I probably will do eventually.

ChelseaRae -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:03:55 AM)

For the most part I don't really like video games, we were never allowed them growing up so I never played them. However, last Christmas we got a Wii and I have to admit I have enjoyed it. I like how it can be a social game and you can play in groups. We have sports, the wario game, Mario party, the game one (I forget what it is called it just has a bunch of mini games), and my husband has Zelda and Super Mario.

Nicole you changed your name! I was all confused when I saw the blue writing and the hamster but not your name.... I get it now!

So is Chris- he's gonna be standing in line for it.
I'm no good at first person shooters and don't really have the time for RPG's- I want something I can pick up and play, or at least be able to save a game in progress (CIV)

Chelsea- we had video games when I was growing up (mostly Game Boy for long car rides), but we never played much. I liked games like Tetris and Dr. Mario. DH got the Wii after seeing people in our small group play it- it was funny to watch a 7 y/o beat his dad at tennis. [8D] For a while we were renting Wii games from Blockbuster trying to figure out which ones were worth buying, but we couldn't find any we really liked. We'd been talking about Mario Galaxy, and I played it a bit at Best Buy just to make sure I could handle the controls.

ChelseaRae -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:29:46 AM)

Stacy, I can play Super Mario Galaxy, if I can, then you definitely can![8D] DH likes it when I play with him so he is always looking for games that I like.

The only thing I insist on is that we will NOT have any first person shooter games or anything else that involves simulating violence in our house, I don't want my kid(s) exposed to anything like that. Fortunately DH isn't a big fan anyway so it isn't a big deal.

fluffmonkey -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:58:09 AM)

Yes! and I love them.

atm I have the Wii, PS2, and N64 lol and I play PC games too.

Ive always been into games I remeber as young girl finding the ol' Atari system in my parents closet...got it out and played games on it...

I love Zelda games! I love mario games too. and love fighting games. and questing games... etc...

Currently I play WOW and sometimes FFXI and my Wii

me and my FH both play wow togther. and we stood in line togther to get the Wii (we were 3rd in line too)

sunshine4God -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 1:46:52 AM)

I love video games.I have a gamecube and my favorite games are Animal Crossing and Mario Sunshine.
Growing up we had a nintendo and than a super nintendo.
My favorite game on that was Super mario brothers 3.
We also had an atari when I was really little but I don't remember it.

Eliana -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 1:54:24 AM)

My husband and I play on our PC. I like simulation/strategy games and first person shooters and he prefers adventure and puzzle games.

We recently played Dreamfall together, which worked well because I did the "action" bits and left the puzzles to him to solve.

We wait till prices drop before we buy anything new, so we're usually playing a game for the first time about a year after it's been released!

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 6:21:11 AM)

do computer games count??
I love Age of Empires...nothing is a better stress reliever than to build up a huge civilization and then go pummel the heck out of the other civilization [sm=icon_smile_evil.gif]
I like rpg's and adventure games. I don't have a lot of time to play, but when I can steal a bit of time then I do.
I also like Law and Order. That's a fun game.
Sandy

I assumed they count because that's what we play -- games on the PC. I've not played Age of Empires, but we have Empire Earth, which I hear is very similar. I love the challenge of trying to build up a civilisation.

I like the Anno series of games even better, though. They are about colonising islands and developing them to more advanced and sophisticated levels. You have to establish industries to take care of your settlers' needs. These start out as pretty simple (food, clothing, community, religion) and get more and more sophisticated as your settlement develops (sweets, whale oil, jewelery, exotic artefacts, etc).

Sideways -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 7:58:32 AM)

A few months ago I finished Knights of the Old Republic (the first one). I played light side female, and dH would watch me play and give advice. He enjoys video games a lot more then me, but I like to watch him play sometimes.

I started Dreamfalls (second one) after I completed KOTOR, but I've stalled out on Dreamfalls. I just seems more like interactive fiction then a real game.

Our favorite indie coffee shop is also a gaming cafe. For $6 we got two hours on any of their machines (and minutes don't expire), so on our last date we went out for Thai, then played an hour of the Wii. I really pummeled dH in boxing. [8D]

Ha. I tried to make that rule and Micah pretty much laughed in my face. I guess it was kind of a silly rule(for us) since we own guns anyway and promote their use for self defense[8|] Oh, we did agree that they don't need to see them played until age 8-10 or so, which makes me a bit more comfortable.

So is Chris- he's gonna be standing in line for it.

So will Micah. I fell asleep to the sound of that game being played so many times when I was pregnant that I started hearing the sounds in my dreams[:o]

Maybe I'll try and learn Diablo today, it would be nice for it to run on my laptop, I'll have to try....

lexie -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 9:18:44 AM)

Of course computers game count!

We own the original Xbox but we play the Xbox 360 now all the time. We also have a PSP and a Nintendo DS. We're also now in a debate over which system we get next - I want the WII (I'm a Nintendo girl!) and Dh wants the PS3.

Growing up we had the original Nintendo and Game Boy. I'm a huge fan of Mario and I still play Super Mario 3 on my DS. One of the first things Dh bought when he came to Canada was a Super Nintendo.

Dh loves first person shooter games, I don't like playing shooting games. I'm not against them, I just can't control them. We will allow them in our house so long as they are shooting at aliens or something like that. But I refuse to let actual war video games (like Call of Duty) in my house because to me, it's to real. I had family who fought in the World Wars and I don't think it's appropriate to turn that experience into a fun video game.

Right now I love playing Guitar Hero 3, Rayman, and Luxor. I want to buy Tetris Evolutions and Scene It LCA for the 360 for myself.

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 9:27:40 AM)

For the Xbox I play games like "Tony Hawk- American Wastelands", "Call of Duty", and "Splinter Cell". I'm not really a "shooter" game fan but that's all DH's brothers really had so I've played them and like them alright. I want some of the old games like Tetris and Crash Bandicoot to play[:D]

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 10:15:52 AM)

We love games. We had a GameCube and a PS2. We really like RPG games. Champions of Norrath, Bauldor Gate, etc. Its fun to conquer the monsters together!

Hubby really likes the first person shooter games. I'm not really into those so much. But he can play them all he wants. We may be more cautious with some of our games when we have kids in the house, but right now its two mature adults. Like Ryanne said, we have real guns anyway, and are responsible so...

We also like CIV IV on the computer. We have been known to play all night!
Stacy, we still want to play against you guys, Klay keeps mentioning it. I'll talk to him and PM ya!

stellaluna -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 10:39:41 AM)

My husband and I both play games. He's been playing WOW a lot lately, but that's new to him. We have a GameCube and PS2; I have a DS and a SNES emulator on my PC. I still have my original Nintendo and SNES systems, and my first GameBoy. I like puzzle games like Tetris, Klax, Dr. Mario. I'm totally addicted to Mario, Metroid and Zelda franchises. I'm currently playing a lot of Zoo Tycoon. We're hoping to get a Wii fairly soon...and maybe a PS3 later.

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 11:00:06 AM)

We also have a NES and an ATARI!! We never use the Atari, but we use the NES sometimes.

I really want to get a Mario Party game for my GameCube.

artemis -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 11:05:12 AM)

Most video games give me motion sickness. Sad, I know [8|] I'll play Super Bust-a-move with my husband and we used to have Final Fantasy X, but lost it when we moved. I play a few older computer games-- the original civilization, king's quest, etc. The new games move around too much for me and give me migraines.

My husband plays what I consider to be a ridiculous amount of video games. It's a lot better than it used to be, though, so I shouldn't complain too much. There have been days when I wanted to take a sledgehammer to the computer, though [;)]

I was in a clothing store once, and I made some comment about how Dh had found a gaming store and would be there for a while. The girl at the cash began sympathising with me when I told her that he plays a lot. She started telling me about her boyfriend.

He doesn't have a job and he plays Xbox 360 all day long. She gets phone calls at random times of day from people in countries like Germany (we were in the US at the time) asking when he is going to be online to play. He's been known to go looooong periods of time without sleep to play video games.

Whenever Dh has been playing for what I think is a long time, I just remember that it could be worse!

Dh does play more than I think he should but I don't complain (too much). I usually grab a book and sit next to him on the couch, or grab a controller and join him. At least I have time to myself then too.

artemis -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:48:04 PM)

My husband plays about 20-30 hours a week (computer). Much better than the 50+ hours he used to play. It frustrates me, but I don't complain too much because it doesn't do any good. I get annoyed when he doesn't get the things done that he needs to for work/school, though.

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 12:50:00 PM)

Klay doesnt play too much, we actually havent played in a good while. We really prefer to play with each other rather than alone. We have very few one player games. The day we got back from our honeymoon and were still off work, we played all day together, it was really fun, and actually kinda bonding. We never play against each other, we always team up!

Now this thread is giving me the urge to go home and play...[8D]

Same here! If I don't feel like playing I ask if Lorne wants to play a game and I'll watch.

Luckily Lorne is not a vid kid. He very rarely plays alone, but if he did overplay and it drove me nuts I would just turn it off (I have done that with my brother too when he hogged the tv). Growing up he didn't have video games so he never got addicted thank goodness.

Nicole_Michelle -> RE: Gamer Girls! (1/4/2008 1:15:44 PM)

In shooting games we usually team up too. It seems more fun that way. We used to play online with ex-military guys that Lorne worked with. We always kicked their behinds! They always got mad that I could beat them in the first week when they had been playing this game for years and years. It was fun because Lorne and I would team up and talk to eachother and attack them out of no where! I really miss playing that game.

My brother isn't much fun to play games with. He gets way too grumpy because we beat him pretty much everytime. He always says we cheat and move too fast in games. [8|] When we were younger my mom would ground him for being so grumpy. [:D]When he was here for Christmas he was playing his DS beside me on the couch with Lorne. Everytime he lost he would hit the couch and yell really loud. I finally got fed up and yelled at him and punched him. I couldn't take it anymore. I had the flu and felt dizzy and really sick and he was driving me nuts. [8D]
