Twice a year--once in spring and once in fall, I spray my lawn with a mixture of beer and molasses. It gets rid of the thatch and encourages microbial activity in the soil.

I've done that too! One for the lawn, one for me...

I used to do all my own fertilizing and pre-emergent. But one year after spending $350 for one application, my brother told me I was crazy because the lawn service people will do a whole year service for $300. He was right, so now I let the lawn maintenance guys do it.

It doesn't cost that much once you get established. The corn gluten meal acts as a fertilizer and a pre-emergent. You can use a cheap beer, just don't use a lite one.

eh, so I should buy the cheapest beer to put on my lawn...interesting.

Use a cheap, but not a lite beer.

Yeah, and just for clarity... use a cheap beer, not a cheap used beer.

Although if you used used beer, then that would be a good way of recycling...unless the neighbors call the police anyway.

This reminds me of the definition of Rural/suburban/urban I gave an underwriter when they questioned my opinion.

Rural... you pee in your front 10 acre yard, and no one sees you.
Suburban... you pee in your front yard, and the neighbor calls the sheriff.
Urban... you pee on the side walk, and every one ignores you.

I'm about ready! Too much winter, not enough spring.

Well, it was nice enough today but the temp is suppose to drop down in the mid twenties tonight. That's not so bad in itself but because we've had a few days of spring, everything is blooming. Until tonight, that is.

Hey, tell me where all the warmth is? It was 43 this morning here in Motown, and only 34 in Jacksonville, Florida.

It's gonna be a nice day, and the tundra keeps unthawing!

I hope so. Maybe it'll help the drainage a little and things will dry out finally.

Yeah, it was about 30 where I live (just north of DC) and 28 to the west of town.

Of course we are supposed to hit 80° tomorrow...

We have a camper (travel trailer). It's been in storage for the long, bitter winter. So, I checked on it yesterday just to make sure everything was OK. One year I came back to find a roof vent open.

Thankfully everything was fine.

Unfortunately, a broken shower faucet didn't fix itself over the winter.

I was on an owner's group website for our brand of camper, and someone was discussing that repair. I too was wondering how to go about it, since it's on the shower wall and not really accessible.

One person was a plumber and said that you definitely have to get to the back of it in order to replace the faucet...as I had suspected.

Another person said that he had to do that same job. His floor-plan layout was such that the cook stove was on the backside of the same wall. He had to remove the cook stove in order to access the back of the faucet.

That sounded familiar, so I looked. Sure enough, the stove is in the same place. So, I'm going to have to removed the stove just to replace the shower faucet.

Thankfully, I've already recruited some help for the job.

We'll see how soon I get to it though, because it also has to go in for a recall on the refrigerator...something about burning down the trailer.

Maybe I'll have that done first.

I mean thawing (unthawing would be freezing, or at least the cessation of the thawing process).

But this is the new camper.

It's a 2002 model...which replaced a 1978 motorhome. The one before that was a 1968 camper.

Hey, I have a 2002 pop-up. Would like to get something a little bigger though.

My parents had a pop-up when I was a kid. I remember how cramped it was with the five of us. Also it was a bit of a pain to setup. My Dad had a bad back, and I did most of the setup work. It definitely had an impact on my decision to get a hard-sided travel trailer.

The motorhome was a very good deal on an old one. It needed some work. We liked it while it lasted. Eventually the roof started to leak. We found that it was more maintenance than a trailer. Also registration was a lot more expensive.

One of the biggest drawbacks was that while camping, you can't just take off and go somewhere without taking everything with you. With a trailer, you can go and the wife can stay in the camper if she doesn't want to go with you.

Some good memories in the motorhome though. That old piece of junk took the whole family from Michigan to Yellowstone, the Black Hills and back home again.

A few breakdowns on that trip. A transmission oil line came off the cooler and emptied the trans...didn't hurt it though. The automatic choke failed closed just before we got to Old Faithful. The A/C compressor gave out at Livingston, MT. An exhaust manifold leak started at Yankton, SD. And the stove fell apart somewhere in Iowa.

Also my brother and I took it to Nebraska and back. That was the last time that I got to spend any real time with him before his death.

Now we have a newer camper. Making new memories.

Sounds like you made LOTS of memories! Yep, the pop-up is a bit labor intensive but it's still fun. Will probably get a trailer of maybe a 5th wheel in a year or two. I would like to do a lot more camping than we do. Been camping with Darcy a couple of times. Now THAT'S an experience!
