my hubby is still in the military...that's why we are here in OK...lol. Paul is the one that drives cranky babies around....usually cause it's at night and I have night blindness so I can't drive at night

MrsTracy72 -> RE: 2008 Secret Sister Book Exchange!! (1/24/2008 4:17:25 PM)

Oh, I thought you were in OK because he got out and that is why you and him finally got to share a home. Which btw, how is the coke theme going?

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: 2008 Secret Sister Book Exchange!! (1/24/2008 4:21:03 PM)

lol....nah, just our tour over in germany was up...so they sent us to our next base. We decided to buy a house even though we know it won't be forever...because it's actually about half the price for a mortgage payment then a rent payment for a house the size we would need to rent (which are nearly non existent around here). His contract right now is through 2012. We were sharing a home (military housing though) over in Germany....except the time he was deployed or training.
I am going to start working on decorating and painting the kitchen next month

Sarah, you could order postage/supplies online from the post office. They can bring it to you...

USPS store link

hey that's cool!!!

Sarah, it's the only way I buy stamps.

If I remember correctly, the sign on the box at the PO says anything 13 oz and heavier needs to be weighed in the office.

I don't know how much is costs though, you'd have to call the PO. I didn't look around at the website to see if they list prices or not but I'm sure they do somewhere.

Well, I hope he likes it if he has 4 more years. My cousins all joined the Army after highschool, and none of them stayed. My dad was there until he broke his neck, then they didn't want him anymore. But that turned out to be a God thing because he suffered minor damage to his left side. Part of his arm is paralyzed, and he had a head injury which affects him today, BUT he was to leave for Viet Nam within that week so the fall turned out to be a good thing. Who knows what would have happened if he had gone. He fell off of a pole doing something.

Sarah,
I don't know about the town you live in, but where I live the grocery store sells stamps at the cashier office. They even have a mail drop box!

I am now reconsidering my withdrawal from this exchange...I want to be part of this sooo bad..but not sure about finances.

Decisions decisions![&:]

Stacy, I will PM you if I change my mind....again.[8D]

LOL....I know this is totally off topic, but here you go...here is our life so far with the Army.....
He was in for three years (I met him when he was in AIT right after Basic training...we were married six months later).
When time came for him to sign a new contract there was a problem with his old one...something his recruiter had failed to do...so he had to get out of active duty to fix it. He couldn't get out totally though, so he ended up going National Guard. It was supposed to be a temporary 6 week thing that turned into three and a half years of fighting everything known to man and the Army, including several Senators and Congressmen/women, and pulling every high brass official either of our families knew to get him back in. Finally there was a 12 hour window that his NG commander was able to open up just so that he could get his release paper signed and go back into active duty. It was a HUGE pain, tons of problems, years of trying everything. Finally though he got back in active duty, went to MEPS, and was told that his old MOS was no longer a valid MOS (job) so he had to have a new one. So back to AIT he went...and they kept putting off starting him in classes for four weeks. Finally on the fourth week someone looked at his file, told him his MOS required more training then the new one, that he was overqualified already, and two days later he called me from Germany. So we didn't have much notice of anything that was going on. Because of more paperwork problems it took three months to get me and the kids to Germany (I was pregnant with Emma then and the day I left was the last day my dr would let me fly that distance)..
SO......he officially has 10 years in so far, but not all of that is active duty.

There is a place to calculate postage on the website by weight.

I just go to the UPS store because that's where I'm working for now anyway. [;)]

Harvie -> RE: 2008 Secret Sister Book Exchange!! (1/25/2008 4:22:59 PM)

Since I will be out of state most of the month of February, I've decided to back out and not participate at this time ...

sorry! (Happy reading!)

Harvie

Auben -> RE: 2008 Secret Sister Book Exchange!! (1/25/2008 9:57:16 PM)

Send your books Media Rate. It's much cheaper.

$2.07/1 lb.
$2.47/2 lb.

I can't remember what 3 lbs is but you have to have a huge book to be that heavy. Anything under 12 (or is it 14?) ounces can be put in the mailbox to be picked up. Everything over that has to be taken down to the post office so the staff can look you over good. [;)]

fluffmonkey -> RE: 2008 Secret Sister Book Exchange!! (1/26/2008 10:34:02 AM)

Its actually 13 Ounces

Media Mail rates ~~~~

weight not over
1 lb- $2.13
2lb - 2.47
3lb - 2.81
4lb - 3.15

If its a small book and really doesnt weigh anything you could send it first class mail as a Flat which requirements are 15" x12" inc 3/4" thickness

OR if you want it to get there in 2-3 days garnteed use a flat rate priority env $4.60
