Can you imagine lying to the Holy Spirit and dropping dead on the spot like Ananias and Sapphira? Wouldn't it have been really awesome to be alive in those days? The apostles performing miracles like that for everyone to see? What I have a hard time imagining is being in Peter's (I think it was) shoes and saying so confidently that Sapphira would die immediately. How sure was he of that? Was he afraid of saying that in case he got it wrong? I can't imagine what it must have been like to live during those early days of the church. I do believe that those same miracles are happening today. I've heard of them, though not seen them. I would love to be where I could see such things and even be a participant. The thing our pastors want us to focus on is that Acts is the beginning of OUR story. I like that. I loved "Touched by an Angel"! Yes, we are reluctant to ask for a miracle for ourselves, perhaps because we're not really ready for it to happen (think of Jesus asking the man if he truly wanted to be healed). What disturbs me (and I'm guilty of this) is our reluctance to ask for prayer for ourselves, especially our deep inner needs. It's much easier to ask people to pray that my uncle be healed of cancer than to ask people to pray that God heal me of jealousy, greed or bitterness. And even harder to ask people to pray that "I" be set free from a compulsion to steal, an addiction to pornography or murderous thoughts. Trumpet, eh? And he's played for two years already? He's probably got a good jump on the other kids who will likely be learning their instrument for the first time this fall. He'll get to do the jazz solos and improvisations if he has any interest or abilities in those areas. You'll enjoy going to his concerts. Is he only in the jazz band or is there also a concert or marching band as well?

God in the form of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside Peter gave him the above confidence you mention. he had not yet received this gift when attempting to walk on water nor the night he denied Christ three times ...

It is really hard to ask for prayer for our own personal "secret" needs to overcome the sin in our life. I have been learning to do this. To actually speak those things to someone else and ask them to pray on my behalf, to be held accountable. When they ask me, I want to be able to say, yes, I have had that self control today or this week. I have kept those thoughts out of my mind. I have persevered in doing something that I really didn't want to do. Accountability is a good thing Yep, he is my little trumpet player. This year he's in the concert and jazz bands. I'm sure once he's in high school, he'll also be in the marching band. quote:
God in the form of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside Peter I love Acts 2:3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. Can you just picture how wild that would have been? Awe inspiring!!

Ed, that sounds like a really great book! I use e-sword and there are a bunch of commentaries that cover it. Plus I have a Quest Study Bible that I like to use. You know what we found at Barnes & Noble a couple weeks ago? A book called The Timechart of Biblical History. It's a HUGE book, over two feet high, and the pages are accordian pleated and fold out the entire length of my living room into the dining room!! The munchkin and I had a huge giggle about it because it's just soooo cool. The timeline starts at Adam and Eve and goes all the way to 100 years after the birth of Jesus. Hi Hot-N-Saucy! I love that Psalm ... how cool that it made you think of my thread. The image of God bending down to hear us is priceless! A devo I did this morning talked about how God *coaches* us. Here were the verses that were included: I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. (Psa 32:8 NASB) "And the LORD will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. (Isa 58:11 NASB) "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (Joh 16:13 NASB) TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace." (Luk 1:79 NASB) Then on my drive to work, I caught the end of a little radio devo that said: God meets us where we are. We don't need to go anywhere special. We don't have to do anything special. We don't have to dress a certain way. We don't have to talk a certain way. He accepts us for who we are and where we are. I love when God puts things together like that so neatly. Okay, Lord, I hear You ... You are everywhere all the time, no special preparation necessary on my part.

Hi There Sam! I was thinking just this week about how God meets us where we are also. I had God "meet me" just a couple of Sunday's ago and more recently too!

Hi Mikey! I think God must be trying to get a message out to a whole bunch of people, what do you think?

Could be Sam, I just know that if we had to meet God where He was and not the other way around, we could be in a heap of trouble!

It would kinda like using a step ladder to reach the top of a highrise building, but then again left to our own selves, we wouldn't even try looking for God because of the man' heart, generally speaking anyway.

Rain is always nice to have in the desert, I'm thinking, especially on a hot summer's night.

Good morning Yes, rain is a very good thing in the desert. And it produces my most favorite smell in the world - the scent of the creosote bush is in the air. It rained so hard and it was so windy that the rain was floating in waves before hitting the ground. It was so beautiful! There is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof. I slept really deep and well. This morning I feel great! Last night was a band information night. They had a bunch of instrument rental companies, not that we're looking to rent since we own our instrument, but the music store we have been going to for the last couple years went out of business during the summer. What a shame! They had been there for so many years. So I needed to find another place we could go and get our supplies. And accessories are a nice Christmas gift, like the new case he got last year. It has a strap so he can carry it over his shoulder, and it's not the hard case, it's soft sided, more like a piece of luggage, but sturdy enough to protect his instrument. But, the point of this was that the munchkin was so excited to see his band instructor that when we got home, he was all gung ho about getting his school supplies set up and ready for the school year. All of a sudden, he is excited for school to start! Can I say how good that is for a mom to see? I think he secretly lives for band ...

I think you'll even find the intro very enlightening. i think it's been one of the most amazing books i've ever read.

He looked around and there beside his head was some bread baked on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the LORD came again and touched him and said, "Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. 1 Kings 19:6–8 More on the same topic as yesterday: God meeting us where we are. God took care of Elijah's most basic needs (food, water, rest) after the drama dealing with the prophets of Baal and Ahab. He was exhausted, and what did God do? He met Elijah right there where Elijah was. God gave him rest, strengthened him for another journey and even more challenges. Do we see God's hand in our life? Do we notice when He is overseeing our most basic needs? Do we acknowledge and appreciate and thank Him for all He does for us? Father, I know there are times when I just take for granted all You do for me. I don't stop and acknowledge that my very life depends on You. Today, I want to say thank You for all You do, have done, and will continue to do in my life. Help me to be more aware of You in every aspect of my life. Amen.
