Have you guys heard of a website called meetup.com... If not now you have... Go check it out and see what meetups are in your area that you're interested in. I've done this several times for hiking and biking.

There's another group called meetmarketadventures.com. It's another activity group. I might try joining them for an activity. Check them out to see if they have a group in your city.

for my area meetup.com has 5 mom's parenting groups, a scrapbook group, several liberal political groups, one new agish religious group and a polyamorous support group.

Not quite the crowds I'm looking for

I think the results were tainted by my proximity to Bloomington though

John, if you think that's bad, here's the list of activities in my city for the meetup group:
Paranormal activities
Dungeons and Dragons
Ghost trackers
Tarot reading
Scrapbooking
Poker

hmmm...doesn't sound like any group I'd be interested in.
The meetmarket adventures group has
Hiking
Ziplining
Cooking night
biking
touring the city
etc.

This one sounds more interesting.

Edit:
The meetup group has a group for "asexual, abstinence, involuntary celibacy group". Hmmmm.....

there's also http://www.meetin.org/ which is more focused on meeting and doing general activities versus the specialized meetUP groups ...

Going back in hiding.

Pauley, while it's true that there are people who would judge or condemn You without grace and mercy, all in the name of love, there are also people who would lovingly accept You and not condemn You. They are here. Yeah, in this forum. Don't hide because of the few that have offended You, because there are far more who are willing to show acceptance and compassion.

What You have to recognize is that we all have a responsibility to do our part in any type of relationships, whether it's on line or off line. Much wisdom has to be exercised. You can hide, if You feel that it is the only option to You, that's not going to solve whatever relational issues You may have. You can choose to not run away, and maybe You'll see a different way at looking at things that would serve You better in the long run. OR, You can just block those whom You feel condemned by, lol. That's also an option.

iwillfearnoevil - I've not heard of meetin.org - I'll check it out. You always seem to have all of these resources right at your fingertips. How do you find out all of this stuff?

Wonderful advice, PH. I've actually had to block a few people in Single's for a bit because every word out of their mouth frustrated me.

I got over it, unblocked them and am now good to go...LOL

If you hide from that which makes you uncomfortable, then you miss that which you bless. You are a HUGE blessing in my life, Pauly and I hate that you feel so miserable here. Like PH said, for every snarky attitude you get, there are 5 there who are willing to listen. *huggles*

Wow, that's awful!

Sorry to here that you guys don't have much going on in your locations. I guess I'm blessed that there's a lot of active people in my neck of the woods.

Involuntary celibacy group!

thanks (i think) and good question rgod ... maybe i spend too much time on the internet (is that possible?) ... i have no clue how i stumble upon stuff ... i did join my local one a while ago but never did go to any get togethers ... usually they were at restaurant, festival, hockey game, etc but everyone seemed totally friendly from what i could tell and had a definate platonic feel to it ...

Looking at that list I'm glad I don't live where you live. The Bloomington area is twisted enough.

Then you DEFINITELY don't want to know what's listed for my area.

I can only imagine since I live what is considered to be a conservative area.

Hey, guys. I'm still reading this book and came across something that would fit into THIS thread (I just posted something in another thread)

The author recommends getting ourselves emotionally healthy in nonromantic settings first. Here's some skills to practice:

* Realize your need
* Move toward others, reach out
* Be vulnerable
* Challenge distorted thinking
* Say yes to life
* Allow dependent feelings
* Recognize defenses
* Become comfortable with anger
* Take risks
* Pray
* Express empathy to others

"As you become more of a connecting person with your support system, you will be more connectable in dating. In addition, you won't be lonely. You will be grounded in these supportive and healing relationships. Because of that, you won't make bad choices in dating."
