Good luck Duane & Stellaluna on your upcoming races! I need to check our local runners organization to see when the next race it. We have one about every month although some of them aren't for me (triathlons, marathons, etc).

I woke up late because I stayed up too late last night trying to finish a project for our music ministry. However, I really, really didn't want to miss my run so I ran a mile but increased my pace to make it harder. I finished in 8:33 - my best time since I was a teenager. Of course, when I was a young teen, that would have been a pathetic time...

4.25 miles this morning. I took a break last night so my legs felt fresh this morning. I haven't taken a break in days.

I'm glad that I'm pretty much like everyone else here. I eat like a horse when I run more miles. Last year, I swear after doing long runs (10-20 miles on Sundays), I literally ate everything in site...even toothpaste. My appetite was huge. Then when I got injured, I didn't' have any appetite and lost weight.

I also went through a depression early this year and I can attribute it to my inactivity. As soon as I was mobile again, I felt so much better, and the dark moods went away.

I hope to do some duathlons next year, and maybe even compete in mini triathlons to start. As I get older, I seem to be getting more and more into my training. For the first 20 years, it's only been running For me. Now, I cycle, ski, hike, rock climb and swim plus play every sport you can think of. I love getting old though the body does seem to react a bit differently. Perhaps it's the over training in the past 20 years.

I took my break today. I have 3 days off so I'm hoping to take some long bike rides and some good runs since I won't have to worry about time (I run before work).

Priarie--ohhhhh ya gotta do a du or a tri!!! They are so much fun! I did my first sprint tri (750meter swim/20K bike/5K run) and had a blast. My ds1 joined me this season and is doing sprint dus. Sunday I will do my first Olympic distance triathlon.

Nothing on the schedule today. However, I might sneak out for an easy 1.5m run in a bit. Short ride tomorrow. Then race on Sunday!

I ran 2.5 miles today. I had hoped to go 3 miles, but it was so warm and muggy that by 2.5 miles, I was sweating like a pig, felt queazy and almost woozy so I figured it was time to stop and get back into the A/C. I'm hoping to do a long bike ride tomorrow. The route will depend on whether or not a friend of mine is home tomorrow - if she is, I'll swing by her house to show her my bike and maybe do a little riding with her and her hubby. If not, I may ride to my aunt & uncles house or go back along the path I took last weekend but just go further down the river front.

I did Pilates today. I'll run or do a long bike ride tomorrow.

I've never done a really long bike ride. Has anyone done a trail that's over 100 km (62.5 miles). If you have, did it make you really tired? How long did it take? I'm planning on doing one in Aug with my daughter, but I don't know if she can handle it. THe trail is not technical. It's pretty straight. I figure I can do it in a day with a few stops along the way to enjoy the scenery but I've never cycle more than 30 km straight.

You could cruise it quite easily. I do 20kms to work and 20 back every day. It is broken up though but could easily keep going if i didn't have work commitments. The bike I have been using has no gears either. I'm getting a new bike soon but till then it's not hard.

Physio and guys at the gym keep telling me it's better for my hips than running. Especially if it's running on tarmac. Which is where I always run.

So far, my longest ride is just over 14 miles but then I'm just starting out. I don't know if my "posterior" could handle a 100km ride though... That usually wears out before my legs do..

So how long would it take you guys to do this? It's actually 60 km one way. There's beaches and little towns along the way. IT's a very interesting trail and I'd so love to do this with my daughter when we go on vacation.

Wow! That looks gorgeous! I wouldn't have the first guess how long that would take me, but it looks like a stunning ride!

Yes, it is. I'm so excited. We might do it in two days, if my daughter can't handle it. There's so many places to explore along that trail.

I did a 60 km bike ride today (maybe more...Google map didn't give me the accurate to and from location). Now, that ride was the longest one I've done in a day. The trail is pretty easy, and I've always like it but today, there was some really muddy part in the trail and I had to get off the bike, and I got eaten by billions of mosquitoes (I was literally covered by them) as I went through the muddy trail. Cycling back to town, there were still mud flying from my bike tires. Only my face was without mud. Me, the bike and the car had to go straight to the car wash. That's my day. I'm ready to just veg. At least I feel clean now.

No more work out for me until tomorrow evening. And it'll be just an hour session of Yoga.

I just came back from a July 4 family trip thingy and didn't get to run once! So right now I have just 2.4 miles for the week. I took my running stuff with me, but there was no opportunity to run at all. Not even once. We did skateboard for a couple of hours Thursday at this TOTALLY AWESOME skate park! I guess that counts for something and I'm definitely running tomorrow.

20 kms takes me around 45mins (with no gears). If you have a young one with you it may slow you down a tad. Could do it in 4 hrs I guess. I have never done it but just estimating based on what I do.

Went for a run today and had my keys in my pocket and lost them. The locksmith told me it would cost me 300 dollars for new locks (it was Sun morn). I e was fotunate to have a neighbour with a crowbar and some knowhow on installing locks. He told me he used to live somewhere where he had to change them often because he had cannibals, while working as an engineer, who were threatening to break in and eat him and his friends so he learnt to change the lock quickly.

He wouldn't even take 50 bucks for it. I gave it to his wife anyway. I was so fotunate. God is good and looks after me .

Well, I woke up stiff from yesterday's bike ride and having worked all day around the house & yard, but I made myself get up anyway to run. I ran a slow 3 miles (one of my slowest times yet actually! ), but I finished so that made me happy!

I did get a decent 2.5 miles this evening, even though it was hot. I tried going out with wet hair and it really did help keep me cool! Unfortunately, I have short hair so it was dry in about a quarter mile...so when I ran by the bathroom at the park I darted in and put water on my head again. I have to admit I looked a little skeery when I got done.

Good job on getting your door opened. It happened to me too a year ago when I first bought my bike and went riding. I lost my keys. I had to use my neighbor's phone to make a call, but instead, he jumped over the balcony to my balcony, and went in my suite to open my door. It freaked me out. I thought he'd fall. But he didn't and I offered to pay him, but he wouldnt' accept anything.

As for the ride, I'm such a novice rider, and I've only been riding for a year, but very minimal. I'm a runner that's learning to ride and enjoying it. It took me almost 3 hours to do the 50-60 km, with one 3 min bathroom stop and I was completely wiped out at the end of it.

Now, I'm rethinking about my plan to do the 120 km bike ride in a day when I go on vacation. Can I do it? How about if I spread it over 12 hours with a lot of breaks to take pictures, eat, swim, explore? Do you think it would help us out. I'm taking my 11 year old daughter who is taller than me and is in really good shape, but has never ridden that long before. Can you give me some strategies on how to do it in one day?

If you go at your daughter's pace and ride for 2hrs or an hr and a half at a time and stop for a half hr break ,you could do it in one day. If that is too much then half that. Do 60km one day and the other 60 the next in 20km lots. That will still be challenging but not so full on. If you are doing it all in one day break it up into 20km lots and spread it through the day. Should be fun !

Also most important is to pace yourself so you don't run out of puff. Focus on going the distance, not so much on the time you do.

Well, the race is over and I survived. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the results, but ther's a little problem area that needs some work.

I finished the 5K in 40:25, which is 3:03 faster than my time last Labor Day weekend. That's the good part. The disappointing part is that I wanted that sub-40:00 time so bad I could taste it! And I really thought I had in my grasp before the race started, because my last several training runs were so good. Unfortunately, I did the one thing I said I wouldn't: let adrenaline get the best of me! The starter said, "GO!", and I went off like a runaway beer truck! By the time I realized what I'd done, my lungs were screaming, "SLOW DOWN, DUMMY! YOU'RE KILLING US!" I ended up walking far sooner (and more) than I wanted, but I did manage to finish fairly strong. The young guy in our group that couldn't run due to an injury, came out to be my spotter. I had him station himself at the top of the home stretch, but he ended up coming even further down the street to cheer me on. That really meant a lot to me, because he had been so disappointed about being hurt, but yet he came anyway - just to support me and the rest of our group. How special is that?!

Anyway, that one's behind me, and I'm getting prepped for the 2008 Charleston Distance Run 5K on August 30. I need to get a larger mp3 player and set up 2 playlists: one that is nothing but mellow stuff for Pre-race, and the other with my current list of Training/Race songs. That 2nd list may help to calm me down, because I was so hyped-up before this one that I couldn't stand still. Adrenaline can be a terrible thing, can't it?

See y'all later!

Duane

My ds1 and I raced yesterday. He did a sprint duathlon and finished 2nd in his age group. He did 5minutes better than he did two weeks ago.

I did the Olympic triathlon. I also finished 2nd in my age group! Still plenty of work to do, though! This was my first attempt at this distance, and I prefer it over the sprint.

I'm feeling pretty good today. Just a tad tired, not sore at all.

Sorry about your time, Duane--SO CLOSE!!! You'll get it next time. My 5K is a week from Saturday. I've been steadily increasing mileage, but I'm still holding steady between an 11:30 and 12:00 pace. Hopefully I can get sub-40:00 myself.

Congrats, HC!

Great job Duane - even if it wasn't a sub-40 time, you still blew away your previous time and that's something to be proud of!

I know what you mean about the adrenaline. It's really hard to not start out too fast when you're all pepped and ready to go.

I took today off because I did so much this weekend between runs & long bike rides and work around the house, I figured I deserved a break!

I'm getting pretty annoyed too because they still haven't posted times & rankings for the 5K I ran more than 2 weeks ago. I know it wasn't my best time because it was such a hard run, but I still want to know what I did and what I ranked...

Wow, you guys are doing a lot of races. I'm so jealous! Ah....maybe next year, when my leg is back to normal.

I did only 3 miles today. SO tired from that ride on the weekend. I ask a friend of mine who is a cyclist about his opinion on the ride I was planning (the 120 km) and he didn't think it would be a good idea since I have a kid with me, and I'm not really an experience cyclist, and not familiar with the trail, and I have no clue how to fix a bike if something goes wrong. I think I'll just do it one way. I have to see what the trail is like. I think I'll leave those long distances for when I'm more experience.

Your links went wonky when your message got posted, but I'm dying to see them, so can you fix them? Please?

My MONDAY MILE went okay and I ran a 10:59 pace! That's my best in months, even though I probably couldn't keep that pace over a longer run. Someday though...
