Congrats stellaluna! Just take it easy when you start out!

I took the day off. I could not get out of bed this morning...

I wasn't sure that I'd be able to start, let alone complete, last evening's workout. I had a mild bit of "stomach trouble" yesterday afternoon, but it went away and I was able to go to the track. There were a few people walking but I was the only runner, which was rather nice, actually. I went through the first interval series without any trouble, but as I got into the second 3 minute run I began to tire out. I took a 15 second walk, then eased back into a slow jog. I was able to finish out the time, but I developed a headache before I was through. Overall, I'd have to give this session about 2.5 out of 4 stars. I've got a couple of things to do tomorrow morning (Men's Prayer Meeting and Breakfast) before I can go for my run, but there is a chance of rain also. I just hope that it's only a light shower; I can run in that, but not a downpour.

For the first time in a long time, I am bored when I run.hmmm..
It's been about 2 weeks since I last went.
I still do strength training and some cardio, but wow, for the first time I don't feel like I need or want to run (You know the feeling, when you miss out on a run or don't run for a while you get restless.LOL).
I have no idea what it could be, this is a first for me.
How do you get out of a rut like that?

Maybe you could try running somewhere different. Do you have a nice big park or an interesting neighborhood where you could run? Or maybe run in a nearby town?

I didn't go out yesterday because of my head. I plan on a short run this evening. The wind has died down considerably.

rnershigh--sounds like maybe you need to sign up for a race? Give yourself some new goals?

I had a really good swim this moring. I hit a "brick wall" earlier this week. I decided just to swim for fun this morning. It was the best swim I've had in a while!

Then for a run. Ug!!! This was my first back-to-back run since my stress fracture. Nuthin' in the tank! Decided to cut it short. 3.58m, 32:03, 8:57pace.

I make myself run anyway. It was a LONG time before I actually started enjoying my runs but I have to keep focused on why I'm doing what I'm doing and do it anyway.

I think races though and new goals are great ways to help the motivation factor.

I am probably going to do a ten mile race .. end of august.

Hopefully I can do it. I've got almost a month before I start the training plan. Then I'll see.

I have days where I don't want to run but I make myself run anyway. I don't have many days like that because it is truly my therapy and nothing else "does it" for me like running. Are you glad that you feel this way? I think I would be scared...I don't want to lose my running.

Well, I just figured up my distance and time and I ran a 14:40 pace. That's actually a lot faster than I thought it would be. I was expecting more like 18:00.

I got my bike mostly adjusted today. I took a long ride over to my LBS and bought a new seatpost and new tires. They actually do make knobby tires for road bikes--yay!--so I'm the owner of two Bontrager Connection tires. They're pretty sweet. And of course it feels great to have a seatpost long enough for my legs. After that I stripped everything (fenders, bottle cages, lights, etc.) from my old rusted bike and attached them to the new bike. Tomorrow I'll take it out for a spin.

Yeay

I caved into the rei sale .. got the garmin..

I am not running any faster than you are.. I thought I was running two minutes a mile faster..Bummer.

Plus my distance was way off (even after trying to use the mapmyrun.com site) so I will just add on some distance.

Wow, so glad to find a running thread! I'm an injured runner who's in recovery. SO far, I've been running for a month now after spending 6 months in rehab. My last long run is about 8 very slow miles last week and was able to finish the week with 18 miles. I feel good and running to not get injured. SO happy to see this thread.

Anyhoo, I have an inspiring story for all you runners. Last week, I volunteered at a local half marathon, and there was a man who ran it. I was a course marshall at the five mile mark and thought we were done because no one else was running. Then this man came along. Very slow. As he got closer, I noticed how old he was. I thought he was 70. I cheered him on and said a quick prayer that he'd make it to the finish line. It was about 1.5 hours into the race. The next day, his name and pics were on the paper. He was turning 81 and he reached the finished line at under 4 hours. I was so proud of him. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Very very inspiring. I can imagine me running like him 'til I die.

There are some folks like that around here. I keep bugging my mom (who is only in her 50s) that if the 80 year old lady can run, she can WALK the races...

I was SO proud of my dad when he ran the Army Ten Miler in DC w/ me a couple of years ago. I couldn't hang w/ him b/c his pace was so slow that it was like shuffling my feet for 10 miles, so I waited for him at the finish line...and, boy, did I make a scene!! Over 60 years old and he completed a 10-mile race!!

I don't like running in the cold, but now I have to discipline myself to get outside since the warm weather is back...and I have to discipline myself on eating habits, too!! I need to lose about 20 lbs.

My parents are 61 and 59 and most of the people their age all of sudden decide they have to "protect their knees" even though they don't have any current problems. So they quit running even if they were. I work in an office of with a lot of ex-mililtary and they say the same thing.

I tried to explain to them that it doesn't technically "wear your joints out" .. but also they don't know anything about getting the right shoes, etc.. the shoes we wear today, I am sure are a lot better than ones twenty or thirty years ago.

We also understand a lot more about proper body mechanics and how to condition yourself safely. I think the key is to listen to your body and know when you are overdoing it and know when you need to rest and recover. A lot of athletes have trouble because they never allow themselves to recover.

I did another bike ride today - 5.65 miles. I really think I'm going to invest in one of those gel seat covers... Ouch! My legs want to keep going but my seat protests...

I made it a little over 4 miles on the bike. Ended up riding against the wind for part of it.

Miss Giggles--your Garmin might be off. Have you checked your route against an online map? I upload to TrainingPeaks, because that's what my coach uses. There are other sites, too. It is not uncommon for my Garmin to show me running through back yards. I just adjust the numbers. After a while, I know what routes should be.

I haven't run since Friday. That run didn't go very well. But, I'm okay with that because it was my first back-to-back run post injury.

Ds1 and I did ride up to Grandma's this weekend. 85 miles each day. We had a blast!

I think it's pretty close. I only rode for a half an hour and it wasn't fast, top speed 12 mph , avg 8 mph , 31 minutes (but I accidentally had it on running mode, not biking LOL) had to stop at a few stop signs, etc and go around some people on the bike path.

I did export it to google earth and it came up with the right bike path and the restaurant that I normally turn around at, so it's as close as I'm going to get. Map was from 2007.
