That is hurtful, why is it always put in a negative light if a white and black person are friends?
quote:

" Do you associate with them? love them? " Are you serious? Does "them" mean every single "person" ? by grouping all African Americans in a "them" category - isn't that racist also? Do I have to love every single person of a different race than mine just to not be called racist? That's backwards!

For some reason, that reminded me of the argument - I can't be a racist, one of my best friends is black!

quote:

If by racial you mean one kind of person over another, those who did not accept Adonai could be perpetual slaves, but if they were one of Adonai's people they could go free in the year of jubilee.

In this conext Paul does not appear to be creating a new doctrine, but applying it properly. If a slave converts he is to be viewed as one of Adonai's people and thus to be traeted accordingly.

In this way I don't see Yeshua changing our view of our fellow human beings, but clarifying how we should have been treating them all along.

I believe this is the proper interpretation of Peter's dream. Grouping the clean with unclean does not make them unclean. We treat people according to their actions and not their linage.

(A continuation form this thread)

Racial in the modern context really is only about one thing, the arbitrary categories created in the 17th century that separate people by physical characteristics. It's a non-Biblical view, and as American slavery was based on it, American slavery was a non-Biblical and wholly non-Christian institution.

As far as the idea of Christians keeping 'non-Christians' as slaves, I think it would abrogate both the Golden Rule as well as our fundamental role of servants ourselves for the gospel. We simply could not express Christ's love consistently and keep another human being as property.

Also, if our morals require us to free slaves who are Christians, how many 'slaves' do you think would stay unbelievers? I am sure they would all claim to have accepted the gospel, creating a raft of insincere believers.

I believe that there were white slaves in america at this time and also indentured servents...?

I don't think, if I remember correctly, slavery in america was only black people.

I think you might be right. I also thought that I remembered reading in history books, etc that not only white folks were slave owners.

I do not remember my heavenly Father saying to me, Who do you want your earthly mother and father to be? In fact I haven't ever came across anyone who does remember that. That could be because, it never happened. My earthly mother and father were chosen through God's will not mine, and I thank, him, for them. WHEN one of God's children puts down, another of God's Children because of Race, Skin Color or Anything that God CHOSE for them, that person is putting down GOD HEMSELF. LOOK OUT not a smart thing to do. Our Father chose who we were to be, we choose who we become. We are ALL GOD'S CHILDREN, some will please him, and do what he wants them to do, and ask for forgiveness, when they fall. Sadly some will not, with all that hate in their heart there is no room for God!

There is one Body of Christ. Red and yellow, black and white. (Even us Celts are included!) We cannot accept divisions without challenging His express will.

Any idea what the Scythians were like? Yikes! Yet in Christ they were one with the most respectable of us.

My own ancestors went in a single generation from illiterate Bronze Age pig farmers to the tutors of Europe. Imagine what the grace of God can do for your own people! But as Steve Taylor once observed, the self-made need not apply. See ya, Darwin!

Currently available genetic and archaeological evidence is generally interpreted as supportive of a recent single origin of modern humans in East Africa.[2]

from Wiki,

you can also search "the real eve", stephen oppenheimer, national geographer, discovery channel,

That debate is over! The oldest people are from the corner of Tanzania. the Leakeys said it in 1950's... A family of scientists. People migrated up to Sudan and then Egypt, which the Egyptians said.

I had to let go of my racism. I found out I cannot go to Heaven with it. LOL!

I carried that demon around a long time. Angry, once I got an education, how we used to be in Africa, how young Europe was compared to Africa, on &on. when I first got on net, looking up sites with lynchings, visit sites with cameras, of how arabs are descreting the pyramids.

Eventually you have to give it up.

I thought it was common knowledge that all human life as we know it began in East Africa. Though it was only theory I read a few books back when I was in High School (my militant, black power days) in the 90’s about genetic mutations that spawned a race(s) of a lighter hue. In some books it has been said that they were kicked out of ancient Kemet (present day Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea and Tanzania) because of this mutation while others state that they were victims of being disconnected from Kemet due to continental shifts. I think doing a little research on the matter with an open and unbiased mind we may find out that we are all the same people with some changing over a few thousand years. Now I’m not sitting here trying to be an evolutionist because I believe in the Bible version of the creation, but I sometimes wonder if the bible creation story and evolution and the possibility of genetic mutations over time could coexist together. Of course that can open another can worms when we look at the original Hebrews. Were they persons of color or did they look like the ones we see today? Did Yeshua(Jesus) have blond hair blue eyes or did he look more like Osama Bin Laden, Bob Marley, or as dark as Djimon Hounsou? Who knows, that’s up for debate, but we cannot have the mindset of associating every significant event and/or person in world history as being white.

Also, if you look on a global (roughly 6 billion people) scale people of color (4 ½ to 5 billion) are the majority on this planet where those who would be considered white (1 billion) are the minority.
*** disclaimer *** those numbers are rough estimates.
Now in some circles there are those that believe that racism white supremacy stems from a global fear of possible genetic annihilation which could happen over the next millennium (unless Christ comes 1st) due to inter-racial mating and procreation. Yeah, I know that’s debatable also and I didn’t write this so don’t kill the messenger.

Oh I heard a lot of theories by various weirdos about where the "White man" came from.

The one that gave he the biggest giggle was by Malcolm X who believed and preached that white men came from defective weak black men's sperm. and he even used a Bible ideology to substiate the claim;

"Out of the darkness came the light".

Give me a break.

I have absolutely no problem with Adam being ( insert any color). It makes absolutely no difference in my faith.

For heaven's sake its just skin pigment. I would question your faith and your prejudices if what skin color Adam was means anything important to you at all.

Yes we all came from one DNA. God says this and science says this. Obviously since there ARE different skin pigments, it was part of God's plan.

Get over your skin pigment preferences.

It does not matter to me either, and since the Bible puts the garden of Eden somewhere in the nort part of Iraq/Iran I am sure Adam was not white because of the intense heat and sun.

Every year or two some scientist discover the truth of where man originated at but uit is never the same place as the last or the next truth.

Well I think Jesus was Jewish, looks similar to the Jews today. Yes he was dark skinned, Jewish people are dark. Was he African, I do not think so, though Simon of Cyrene was. The Bible talks about the Ethopian that was reading Isaiah, so there was a distinction in race. Also Moses married to an Ethiopian woman.
See Jesus was not white when he was here on earth either so it is not a Nanny, Nanny foo, foo, thing. Jesus, God is all colors. He does not look upon our outward, or our ethnic group, he looks at the heart. Another thing David was Ruddy ( red) complexion or cheeks, with red-hair. In the linage of Christ.
I am sure there is not pure Jewish blood in Jesus viens either, Ruth a Mobite, The canninite prostitute Rahab. There is a black church here where I live, in the Baptismial there is a pitchure of Jesus with a half, black half white face.
I am sure Koreans see a Korean Jesus, and so on, does it really matter in the end. This flesh returns to dust, and our Spirits will be with God.

No actually the link about white skin is from white american scientists.

Malcolm X got saved before dying.

Everybody tha has done DNA says AFrica, I don't think DNA qualifes for Conspiracy Theory, but nice try. LOL!

The Bible does mention white:

Num 12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

Romans called Europeans "albinions" upon encountering them in 46AD.

I believe Africans felt cursed when having albino children, they still considered it cursed, and kicked the children out or abandoned them.

quote:

It does not matter to me either, and since the Bible puts the garden of Eden somewhere in the nort part of Iraq/Iran

The Bible does not put it in Iran/Iraq, It lists 4 rivers and then in Gen 10 it says the earth parted.

After a long hiatus from this thread....... it seems as though I have found the impetus to rejoin.

Many, many moons ago there was lively discussion regarding speaking patterns of African Americans within the context of the work place and other scenarios.

In trying to explain my ability to speak "differing dialects" dependent on social atmosphere... I was roundly derided.

Anyway, I found a blog entry that speaks to that.

http://whattamisaid.blogspot.com/2008/04/word-about-blaccent.html

quote:

Consider this excerpt from the wonderful book, Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America:

Given their desire to fit in both with black and non-blacks, many women often “code-switch” by shifting between dialects, languages and styles of communication. Code switching is a result of what we call the “yo-yo paradox,” the pressure black women feel to shift back and forth in order to meet the conflicting codes, demands, and expectations of different groups. They shift “white” at the office, in the classroom, when addressing the community board during a public forum; and they shift “black” at church, during book club meetings, among family and friends. Many African American women learn how to code-switch from an early age. The lessons on which voice to use and when to use it are often as much a part of their tutelage as good manners and the ABCs. They learn that what is acceptable on the playground is not always acceptable at home, that what is required in the classroom could cause them problems with their teenage cousins. For some black woman, code switching is relatively effortless; sometimes it’s even an opportunity to use voices that reflect different aspects of their selves.

But for others, code switching is a more arduous exercise. The multilingualism required to speak one way to a Southern grandmother, another way to youths raised on MTV, and still another way in a corporate boardroom can be as challenging as learning to juggle three balls without dropping one. It can lead to the painful “yo-yo effect,” as a woman feels conflicted about shifting between two distinct voices,
self-conscious about using the “wrong” voice in the wrong situation. Women who have difficulty switching may be mocked or unfairly criticized by blacks and whites alike. “She thinks she’s white.” “She tries to hard to sound black.” “She’s a ghetto girl.” “She’s not very bright.”

I'm just enjoying all the love!

Okay, my first post in here was about my daughter's hair and I've got a question for you guys and gals. What kinds of products do you use in your kid's very curly hair? We've tried some things that make her hair crunchy and stiff...don't care for those, but I'm liking THIS stuff pretty well. Does anybody have a product you just love?

I just love Creme of Nature products. The shampoo has a built in detangler. The moisturizing is enough to tame snarls, kinks and even naps.

It doesn't have a heavy "cloyingly oily" scent, either.

In another thread about stereotypes it was brought up by a balck person that they are stereotyped, not only by whites by by blacks as well, for "acting white".

Does this happen a lot? Do black people look down on other black people for speaking grammatically correct with good enunciation? For being educated?

Why are those traits..."white" traits?

I have actually seen this.

The knife cuts both ways, SonInMe1.

For some, I don't speak "black" enough... or "white" enough....

I just try to be Christian enough.

Jalanda,
I haven't noticed "white" or "black" in your posts.
But I have noticed love, which erases any differences that color can create.
