Yeah -- I'm thinking that was the reason for the almost 3 year gap between #2 and #3 ... all of the other kids were 18-20 months apart. I couldn't bear the thought of that happening again!

I have an appt with my obgyn tomorrow. She isn't charging me, thank God! I am going to see if I need stitches since they came loose.

Since they came loose it probably means that your body doesn't need them there anymore.

And I started having nipple blanching today. It's really, really painful.

Julie, are you using the lanolin both before and after nursing?

I did and then stopped. Not for any particular reason, just forget usually. Nipple blanching is common among women who have had breast surgeries likely because the blood supply has been compromised (though some have it because of Raynaud's Syndrome). I've heard that doing warm compresses, using wool breast pads and taking certain vitamins can help. Do you have experience with Lanolin helping with that?

Today is a better day. Thanks for those who prayed and those who still will. I made it to my women's Bible study today and that was very refreshing. The kids got to hang out in nursery and the babysitter said they were great and that means that DH got to work at home uninterrupted for a while so he's happier, too. I still feel a little "bluesy" now and again but nothing like yesterday. After having a better day I'm on the fence about calling my OB. I got another night of somewhat good sleep (Gideon slept until 4 after going to bed, my boobs woke me up before he did) and did well getting out today. I may give myself one more day to see what happens.

Forgive my persistence, but I was wondering why you are hesitating? I know you have to pay over there to see a doctor (it's free in the UK), so is it the cost?

I feel a little silly calling and saying that I'm still tired after having a baby a week and a half ago. They're just going to say "of course you are", I can feel them rolling their eyes now. I just want to make sure that I'm not being a weeny. With baby #1 they put me on iron for anemia immediately but I had a lot of physical trauma and it took an extended healing time, after baby #2 I got a really bad uterine infection within 3 days and again took an extended healing time so I don't really know how I'm supposed to feel at this point even though this is baby #3 for me. As far as my experience goes where I'm at is kind of "normal". Part of me doesn't think it's normal but what do I know?

Julie if any part of you feels that it isn't normal then you need to push for care. It shouldn't be terribly hard to run into an office and get a CBC done to see your Iron levels. If they are normal then you know you are normal.. but if not then you know that too.

Take care of thyself!

How do you know? Have they done so before? That doesn't sound a very professional attitude to me, and either it's in your mind, or you need to find a new place to go. The medical staff that I see here in the UK would *always* take someone's concerns seriously - it's not worth them doing otherwise, and they are also just kind and pleasant. Their view is that they'd always rather be sure.

These people are there to help you, not pass judgement on you. (And btw, even if they did think you were being a "weeny", so what? why does it matter what they think of you?)

Blood work takes time, and I honestly think it's not wise to wait. All you'd need to say is that you were anaemic after your last two deliveries, that you lost a lot of blood this time, and you've been feeling exhausted and light-headed. No medic worth their salt would tell you you were being a "weeny".

Julie, lots of people (your family) are depending on you. Please please get an appointment today. If you fall ill over the weekend, it will be far more difficult to get help.

And then if your blood work turns out to be normal - GREAT! At least you will know. But if it isn't, you need help asap. Please don't leave it any longer. It could just as easily be that you leave it and leave it, then get really sick and your doctor says "Why didn't you come to see me sooner if you felt like this??"

agree with Manda's post...except for one thing. All they have to do for an iron count is a simple finger pr*ick and test....just about any dr's office should be able to do that for you pretty fast...after all they even do that at the blood donation centers and WIC offices.

That doesn't test both the hemoglobin and hematocrit though, and the doctor may want to know other things too. A CBC is a much better diagnostic tool than the finger pr.ck test.

true...but it at least gives a basic number....the CBC does take a while to come back with results.

It would be great if Julie would have even just that test - but if it came back negative for anaemia, it wouldn't explain why she was feeling like she was. I guess she could then go for a more comprehensive test (hopefully one that included a thyroid function test).

A CBC shouldn't take more than 20 minutes MAX to run. And that's by hand. Our CBC machine at work takes 4. Seriously, it's a small tube of blood set in a machine, the machine sucks a few drops up and runs the test. And bam you're done.

Get in and get it checked out Julie, pleeeaaasseeee

Julie, when I was pregnant I blew my sypmtoms of anemia(weakness and mood swings, tiredness) off as just being caused by pregnancy. When I finally had my Iron levels tested and started taking supplements it made a world of difference. You do need to call, especially if you are experiencing the baby blues, as mood swings can be apart of anemia. At the very least, since you already know your HCT was pretty low, start taking an Iron supplement besides just your prenatals.

Nurse Kim says that there's no way a decent medical professional would ignore those symptoms!!

Julie was speaking of being constipated only a few days ago. With respect, I don't think she should just start taking iron without the doctor's say-so. But (in danger of overkill here!) I do think she should see her doctor and very soon.

When I take iron postpartum, I also take stool softeners. And eat 3 lbs of apples in two days. I'm sure that helps too.

Thanks ladies! I really do appreciate your input and encouragment. I did call my doctor's office today and talked to a nurse. She told me to go and get an OTC iron suppliment, double my Dulcolax and eat healthy. That if the racing heart issue isn't resolved in a week to call back otherwise the other symptoms could take as long as 6 weeks since it takes a while to get your iron back up.

Hi ladies! I'm sorry it took me a bit to sign in and update you.

My appointment went really well!!!!!!

The GOOD news is that most of the tear has healed up in the last two weeks! She "really" looked to make sure. I have the 'tiniest' (it doesn't feel tiny to me, but she said it was) little tear at 6 o'clock. She gave me estrogen cream to speed that little tears recovery up. I have to use it 3 times a day.

sooooooo no stitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am however really dry and feel terribly 'raw'. She said that's partially because I'm breast feeding and the cream will help. She said that I may feel raw, but I look pretty good! I m so glad!!!!!! Within two weeks I'll be NORMAL AGAIN!!!!!! YAY!!!

Sorry if that's tmi.

That is wonderful news Jae!

As far as the dry and raw feeling, I have that with my vulvar vestibulitis and using those "Rephresh" inserts really help. I don't know if it would in your case, but estrogen alone didn't help me. So I thought I would throw that out there to you...

Here is hoping for a speedy 2 weeks!!

Kpenn - so funny you mentioned vesty. I was diagnosed with that, but it finally went away. It only resurfaces if I'm really stressed. I am VERY sensitive down yonder. I'm even allergic to monistat. I'm hoping this estrogen works for me.

Make sure you have some KY or something on hand, Jae. I have to use that often when nursing because it does dry you out down there.
