poof...your landlord repents of the flimsy state of the building and insulates the walls. You sleep great until one night you hear a slight shuffling in your room. You lay still in the dark and listen. After a while, there is the sound of a drawer opening. You wonder if you should scream, fight or pretend to sleep as a flashlight scans the room. There aren't any weapons handy. No point screaming - the walls are now so thick no one could hear. You lay with your eyes closed and pray. There is a loud crash and a scream - the intruder has tripped over the pile of Bible study guides on the floor and knocked himself out.

I wish we had free Thai food delivered daily. Just now I'd like steamed veg with tofu and spicy peanut sauce for breakfast. And Thai iced coffee. I think I missed supper yesterday.

POOF: You have Thai food. And lots of it. However, as you are rushed to the emergency room, you discover that you've just developed an adult-onset peanut allergy.

WISH: I could complete this paper for school.

funny thing happened: it wasn't Thai food, but a friend stopped by last eve and brought me a chicken dinner and then dh came home from a meeting with leftover chocolate-rasberry cake. so I was blessed.

poof...you complete the paper easily. But writing all those facts is kinda boring so you start to embelish. Soon it becomes an intricate scifi-gothic tale. Your prof flunks you but suggests you publish.

I wish my back holds up (getting over a draft that caused muscle spasms) so I can toss the grandkids around today. Their fav game is attack grandma and I want to win.

POOF: Your back holds up and you and the grandkids have a fantastic time. The next day at school, they tell their friends that they were playing the game Grandma Attacks. A guidance counselor overhears the children talking - and not realizing it was a game - calls social services. The next week, you get a visit from Mrs. Busby from child protective services ...

WISH: I wish I knew how to swim.

Love my counseling job you guys have given me! So glad I could be part of helping Steven, even if I didn't find out about it at the time, since he threw his phone away, and the last thing I heard was an accusation of lying.

POOF! Mrs. Busby from social services absolutely does not believe Still4gvn's story that she was only playing a game with her grandchildren and didn't actually attack them. But Still4gvn does not back down on her story. So Mrs. Busby, in utter frustration, goes berserk, kidnaps Still4gvn, and throws her into a lake. Still4gvn can't swim. However, Rgod is passing by just then and sees the whole thing. Totally forgetting that she can't swim, Rgod jumps in to save Still4gvn. She remembers it as soon as she's jumped. But to her immense surprise, she finds that she can swim. She swims over to Still4gvn and says, "It's okay, I'm here to rescue you." But, as often happens with people who are drowning, Still4gvn is in a panic and grabs Rgod and holds on. Now Rgod can't swim anymore, with someone hanging onto her. Now they both need rescued.

I wish someone would come along to rescue Still4gvn and Rgod.

Annie - A twist ... I love it!!! Drowning and a bezerk Ms. Busby! An aside - when I was writing about you being a counselor and you only hearing when Steven accused you of lying - it made me think about how many times we do something that God might want us to do, but we don't see the results and get discouraged. It kind of made me think about the verse, "Be not weary in well doing."

POOF: Annie hears the screams of Still4gvn and Rgod and immediately jumps in the water. However ... with two people clutching at her, she also begins to drown. Car2ner has been camping nearby with JesusChick247, March7, 1970Rodney, Armydude, Bevik, and Preludiean. She hears the screams and runs, leading the group to the side of the lake. JesusChick247, a certified lifeguard, quickly assesses the situation. She prepares to resue the drowning women when ...

It's a bird, it's a plane ... it's Super Fritz!!!!

Fritz swoops down, cape waving in the wind. He rescues the women, easily scooping them up in his arms and leading them to the side of the lake. He then promptly flies away to attend to another emergency. (The crosswalk server shut down unexpectedly.) Car2ner and JesusChick247 provide CPR to Rgod, Still4Gvn, and Annie. The rest of the group brings blankets and other provisions from their campsite.

Still4Gvn borrows a cell phone from Armydude to call the police and tell them what happened. She is shocked to learn that an amber alert has just been issued for her grandchildren. Mrs. Busby has kidnapped them. They are heading south in a baby blue Prius ....

WISH: I spent too much time writing this story this morning. I wish that I had 20 extra minutes.

poof...Rgod has extra time b/c class has been postponed. There was a multi-car pile up involving the prof's car and a blue prius. Seems Ms. Busby was driving with the kids in the back seat. They kept telling her that they're not allowed to ride without kiddy car seats. She kept screaming at them to shut up. Bored, they started to sing their whole repertoire of songs as loudly as possible. At the 5th rendition of "Jingle Bells, Santa Smells", Ms. B turned around to swat them and rear ended the Prof. While she tried to flee, the kids took her cell and phoned the pizza guy. (they'd been warned not to phone 911 except in an emergency)

I wish it would stop raining so Kittycat could go out and pretend she's catching squirrels.

I thought about the same thing. I don't think I thought of that specific verse, but I did think about all the times I've tried to do something for the Lord and not seen any results, and that not meaning there aren't any. Thanks for the reminder.

Anyway, POOF! The rain is over and Kittycat is out attempting to catch squirrels. Only this time she actually catches one. The squirrel does not want caught and bites Kittycat on the nose. One good thing--it does not carry rabies. But Kittycat has a very sore nose and is very unhappy about the results of her venture.

I wish I wouldn't accidentally hit the up arror on my laptop instead of enter, or whatever the mistake is that I'm making that makes the cursor suddenly jump up into another line and start typing my next word within the word above it.

Guys, glad you found the thread. I was thinking about mailing you - but you found it before I got a chance to do so!!!

So, now I can make these shorter.

OK POOF:

You get invited ... to the communist party! Somehow it isn't quite as fun as a birthday party ...

WISH: I wish that I could have a new wardrobe. That fits me. And that is stylish. For the year 2008 in America. And is for a woman (because I am one).

POOF! You now have all new clothes that fit you and are stylish for a woman in America in 2008. However, since you have suddenly been transported to Antarctica, they aren't going to do you a lot of good.

I wish my peach I'm eating wasn't so messy. Juicy, yes, messy no.

POOF: You drive down the coast of Oregon and see the storms come in. It is breathtaking. However ... when you eat out, you get salmonella poisoning. To settle your stomach, you sit in the hot tub. But when you get out, you have a flesh eating virus. Fortunately, the hospital is able to help you. As you lay in the emergency room, your daughter plays on your laptop. Unfortunately, she downloads another type of virus that wipes out all of your files. Before you can get out of the hospital, you decide to watch the Oregon storms on television. Looking out of your window, you see another storm brewing and you get excited. Unfortunately, you see the beginnings of not one, but two funnel clouds in the distance. You now wonder if your trip was such a good idea.

WISH: I wish that I could date Gary Dourden from CSI.

You mean Dourdan? I googled him and the show. He has a history of drug arrest and other shenanigans. So if you had a date his personality would ruin it without me. He looks cute though. Too bad.

I wish Rgod would meet an eligible guy that's cute, Godly, intelligent creative and rich.

Wow - I didn't know about his background still4gvn. I remembered him from another show years ago and always thought he was cute, but I don't pay a lot of attention to exactly what is happening in Hollywood, so I had no idea that his life had taken the turn that it has. It is pretty sad, you really don't know what is going on in a person's life based on outside appearance. He sounds like he's had a lot of struggles and made lots of poor choices. I pray that he can find the Lord (if he hasn't already) and can get on the right pathway for his life.

POOF: Rgod meets a wonderful handsome, godly, intelligent, and creative man. Both he and Rgod travel throughout the country ministering to people through the arts and helping other christian artists to develop spiritually and to release their gifts. Many people are saved and are healed emotionally and physically through the ministry. Because Rgod's husband is also a business man, he is able to manage the ministry finances quite well and God provides for them so that they are able to live - not extravagantly - but fairly well. However, after 10 years, he dies from a terrible car accident, leaving Rgod a widow in her late 40s.

WISH: I wish that I had a black grand piano.

Yes, let's pray that the Lord will send me a wonderful spouse (and make me a good wife in the process!)

POOF: You know HTML - so well, that you get a job as a web designer. So now you spend every night learning CSS, XML, ASP.NET, JSP, PHP, Javascript, RSS, and Perl so that you can accomodate your clientele. AND you also spend a portion of each evening reading Slashdot, learning about usability, design principles, how to administer web servers (IIS and Apache), and learning how to use lots of new software. Soon, your clients expect you to know almost everything and you find yourself knee deep in books about databases and networking. Before long you have no free time! You even find yourself dressing differently; you have t-shirts that show the wi-fi signal strength in a given area - and you find that you are suddenly quite attracted to bright blue pocket protectors and horn rimmed glasses ...

WISH: I wish I could learn lines effortlessly. My memory is improving, but not enough for me to learn my lines quickly.

LOL. DO you know that stuff? never heard of most of it though dh and son are computer techies.

poof...you now have a photographic memory and effortlessly know your lines. But you happen to be on the street when a major pol is shot by the mob. They know you saw the shooter and won't forget his face. Hiding from the mob is interfering with your job.

Did you know Car2ner is a drama teacher or something like that?

I wish I could remember names and words to hymns.

I know some of it unfortunately - but I'm working on forgetting it . I didn't know that Car2ner was a drama teacher - how interesting! Maybe I can ask her for some advice. By the way, I love the mob twist.

POOF: You remember the names and words of hymns - in fact you've memorized the entire hymnal. Then you transfer to a non-denominational church where they do not sing any hymns ... so you have to start all over again.

WISH: I wish that there was world peace.

Revival breaks out at your church. But you have a virus and have to stay home in bed and don't get to be part of it. (That actually happened to me when I was in college. I heard from my dh--at that time my boyfriend--about all the great things that was happening during what our Christian college called Spiritual Emphasis Week that I was missing out on. Maybe God needed me out of the way.)

I wish I had one of those t-shirts Rgod described that show the strength of the wifi signal in the area.

POOF: You have the wifi shirt that you ordered from thinkgeek.com (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/illuminated/991e/). You love it so much that you give away your entire wardrobe to the Salvation Army and only buy thinkgeek clothing. Now, you have nothing to wear to a nice night on the town because all you have are t-shirts and jeans.

WISH: I wish that the Mighty Maple peanut butter tasted more mapley.

POOF! It occurs to you that if you mix maple syrup in it it will taste more mapley. You try it and it works, at least for the taste. But you have made the texture of the peanut butter a little strange, and it wants to glop off your peanut butter sandwich all the time.

I wish I had enough money to send all three of my kids to private colleges without taking out any loans, pay off all my debts, pay off all my the debts of my brothers who've had financial problems, pay whatever taxes we would owe on that much money, tithe all that money, and still have enough left to take a train trip across Europe with my dh.

poof....you become a local agent for geek t-shirts. Since you have a whole wardrobe of them, you have lots of samples to show people. You find you're great at sales - focused but not pushy, and with a sense of what each person will like. Soon you're wildly successful and take on selling Car2ner's drawings and a whole line of Christian geek clothes. You have lots of money, but now you're kids complain they want to go to the state college with all their friends.

I wish my dreams weren't so weird and foreboding.

I wish still4gvn's dream of housecleaning would get my house actually clean.
