Been talking to RObertyork about using them. Maybe you should suggest it also. I don't think the audience would be disappointed.

I think they would be a great act for him to use in his concerts. I think he is going to need one now.

ORIGINAL: pauljackson I am biased for sure, but my favorite bass is our bass...MIKE ALLEN. What a beautiful voice! It is really fun and amazing to sing with him. I have no idea who's the lowest bass. I agree that Mike is an awesome bass singer. He was my bass singer in the aforementioned quartet draft. Another bass singer that seems to get overlooked is Jeff Pearles. He can not only hit the low notes, but he is great on solos and harmony as well.

ORIGINAL: fossinater I first heard Mike on the Poet Voices "Trust the Truth" album, and I became an instant fan. It was one of the first albums I heard, and I didn't realize how good he was until I started getting other groups cds. That is not only my favorite Poet Voices CD, but it would probably be in my top 10 all time favorite CD list!

I have to go with Glen Dustin. He is so dedicated to improving himself. If you haven't picked up the new Christmas CD, you need to. Glen shines on this one. I think he now sing the slow songs better then he ever did on the "fast, bass-friendly" tunes.

I've never before heard in his voice what I heard on that CD, especially "Do You Hear What I Hear." The odd thing is that the production on Know So Salvation (especially on his solos) didn't bring out the same warmth.

Tim Parton did a great job with Know So Salvation, but not quite the quality that Daywind did with the Christmas CD.

I just checked - Steve Mauldin is the main producer for the Christmas project, with Tim Parton as an assistant producer. He just must have a different technique in producing bass vocals. Whatever it is, I love the result.

He is a pro on the stage. Amazing in the studio...and genuine in his faith!

I absolutely LOVE bass singers.... even the good ones are good IMO! I found this thread just doing google searches for different bass singers. Not sure if everyone has heard the Greater Vision CD 'Quartets' or not, but it's a GREAT CD for comparing different bass singers. IMO, Tim Riley is the best their ever was... soooooooooooooo low but yet sooooooooo smooth and without any kind of effort. Check out http://youtube.com/watch?v=87rbegDpHxk IMPRESSIVE indeed... even Mark Lowry and David Phelps look impressed..... Currently the lowest out their would have to be McCune and Duncan.... incredible singers. QJ

Mike Holcomb, Jeff Chapman, and David Hester are probably the lowest "active" bass singers. Some of the names brought up are not even close to being lowest...Aaron McCune (low A/Ab), Christian Davis (low G), Eric Bennett(?), and others. These other mention have at least a half octave on these bass singers. I think some of you are just listing your favorites instead of sticking to the topic. I think Aaron McCune is a good singer, but not the lowest at all - they have his EQ settings just right to make him sound low, as do other groups!

I am almost positive I've heard Christian hit the lowest F or E on the piano. One of his lowest notes was on the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet song "The Dream," recorded when he was 17 or 18.

Not sure if he is still active but today I was listening to a CD of the Songfellows with Mike Schlee singing bass. He did a couple of slides at the end of songs and did not seem to have an end to his bottom notes.
