ORIGINAL: Cute-N-Sassy Can I just vent here for a second??? How is it that I had nearly a whole weekend to work on school work and hardly got a thing done?? [8|] It seemed that every time I sat down, I thought of something to do. There were people to call, emails to write, food to be cooked, dishes to wash, laundry to fold, mail to go to the mailbox, things to be brought in from the car, cats to be let outside, bills to be paid, etc. While I did my chores, kitty slept silently. But once I focused on my reading, suddenly kitty needed attention. Is this normal or is this ADHD?? [sm=rollingeyes.gif][:D] I just finished school... but here is what I did then and still do at work, etc. What I do is 1) keep a notepad on me at all times- if something comes to mind that needs to be done, I write it down. I do not allow myself to stop one thing because I thought of something else (this does take training!). 2) Work for rewards. I give myself a goal (NOT a time limit) of some specific thing, i.e. as soon as I write the methods section, I can take a break and do ____ (insert something you love here!). I found if I set time limits, I dawdle. With a concrete GOAL, I work as quickly as I can, because I can't stop until it is DONE. 3) Take advantage of my mood. When I am feeling creative, I do the creative stuff (like writing)... when I am feeling "dull" I do the busy-work, like editing or searching for references or compiling a reference list. 4) Lowered standards. I cannot expect myself to keep my sink empty & write a paper, etc. Tara P Hey! Those are GOOD, Tara! And actually, I use most of them, too. I am quite motivated by to-do lists. I like to have a list that I can check off. So making a list of things I have to do before I can (fill in the blank) really helps me get stuff done, whether it's school or otherwise. besiderself
