Greetings in the name and love of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Slain in the Spirit - I think we often times mean well, but we get our emphasis on the wrong sylables and forget what really matters.

Slain or not slain is not going to be on the final exam when we get to heaven. The only question is going to be, "Who is Jesus?"

Although we often delve into various expressions of our worship, to make these into tests of fellowship, holiness or rightness with God is straying far away from what Jesus said.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Matthew 16:16-18 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Petera, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

While I will recognize that some of these other expressions (slain in the spirit, speaking in tongues, etc.) may do something for some people, they should never be made an issue to divide Christians or made as requirements for eternal life.

The Church's one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord. If Christians would spend as much time Getting To Know Jesus as they do fussing over things that don't matter, we would have a greater level of spiritual maturity in our congregations. Pastors would have more people giving, serving, evangelizing, witnessing. That would do much more Kingdom good for a Christian and congregation and the Kingdom of God than being "slain in the spirit".

God bless you in all you do for Jesus!

i got my copy yesterday of the may 2008 issue of christanity today, on page 42 there is an article covering this topic, i found it very good reading, entitled charismatics and calvinist.
he even said pentecostal worship can get a little messy; indeed sometimes there are bodies everywhere, the author teaches philosphy at calvin college, and attends a pentecostal church, can't wait to read his new book when it comes out.
would advise all here to read the article and see what you think?
