Braveheart is my all-time favorite ...

Last of the Mohicans is a close second ...

Moulin Rouge is a fun third

And I have a collection of Bond themes that I enjoy

teaspoon61 -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (6/17/2007 8:51:15 PM)

Told you I would think of more later!

How could I have forgotten Last of the Mohiccians! I must have been having a brain cramp![8D]

Pirates of the Carribean, Black Pearl ~ excellent! Listening to it even as I type.

Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World.

Braveheart is still #1 though!

MMMMMMMMM ~ Three of my favorite film soundtracks are Russell Crowe movies. Wonder if there's a theme at work here?![:D]

Justifiedgirl -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (6/29/2007 8:02:52 PM)

Yeah many share my faves:
Dances With Wolves
The Last of the Mohicans

Somewhere in Time

And some that weren't mentioned:
A Beautiful Mind
Marvin's Room
At First Sight
Anne of Green Gables
Sense and Sensibility
A Walk in the Clouds
Rigoletto

Oww come on! How can none of you mentioned Shrek?
All Stars -made by the Counting Crows for Shrek 1
Accidentally in Love -made by Smash Mouth for Shrek 2
and I've just watched the third installment and the music is real cool too!

And have u ever heard of a phenomenal game series called Final Fantasy. They have soundtracks that almost brings me to the point of tears sometimes... They were just great! Try 'Eyes on me' by a Jap named Faye Wong. Especially if you know the game's plot, it was just real cool.....

And another Jap Anime called Hunter x Hunter has a real cool opening song called "Good Morning (Ohayou)", it was awesome..

I have a bunch of the Final Fantasy Piano Collections CDs. I also have Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec (the orchestral arrangement of the FFVIII soundtrack) and the single-disc version of the FFIX soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu is a fantastic composer.

STAR WARS, JAWS (Pretty much anything by John Williams)

PSYCHO (Bernerd Hermann)

TITANIC

Many of the John Carpenter scores such as HALLOWEEN or ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, amazingly how he got such mileage out of such minimalist scores....

I actually don't pay a lot of attention to soundtracks, but the mad scene aria from Lucia di Lammermoor on the Fifth Element soundtrack was the most beautiful version I have ever heard. Unfortunately, the soprano is using pseudonym on the soundtrack, or she is very obscure, because I have been unable to find any other recording from her.

Also, I think Aria from the Goldberg variations was very effectively used in Hannibal.

Braveheart
Last Of The Mohicans

David-West -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (7/3/2007 4:56:59 AM)

I don't even know if I could pick a favorite. Here's all the soundtracks that I own:

Batman Begins
Braveheart
Dinosaur
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2 Volumes 1 & 2 (not a movie, but still an excellent soundtrack)
Forrest Gump (The original music, not all the songs used in the movie)
All 3 Lord of the Rings soundtracks
Mission: Impossible: III
All three Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks
Serenity
The Bourne Identity
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Island (I only own the track "My Name is Lincoln", which is one of the most powerful tracks I've ever heard.
The Postman
Wyatt Earp

Out of all of those, I'd say that Wyatt Earp, The Postman, and the POTC soundtracks ("Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End" in particular) are the most solid soundtracks overall. The other soundtracks have songs that I normally skip, and I rarely listen through the entire thing. Those soundtracks, however, have very few lulls in the music. The first half of the Wyatt Earp soundtrack is one of the best listening experiences you'll ever have. James Newton Howard is easily my favorite composer. I own 4 of his soundtracks and have a bunch more on my to-get list.

For those of you who really like movie soundtracks, you should look into the trailer music composed by companies like X-Ray Dog, Immediate Music, and Brand X music. There's some incredible stuff in there.

Cinexcellence -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/1/2008 1:52:02 AM)

I'm curious why so many people love the score to Last of the Mohicans. By itself I think it's good, but as a film score I think it falls flat. Not much variation, repetitive in certain areas, and doesn't fit the on-screen emotion at all in others.

PureLight -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/1/2008 6:58:28 AM)

Composers:

Danny Elfman

aslouie -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/3/2008 2:12:59 PM)

As a continuation on my fav list...

Ryuichi Sakamoto (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Gohatto)
Koji Endo (just about every musical score found in his collaboration in Takashi Miike films)
Das Boot (pretty cool synthesizer score from Klaus Doldinger)
Happily Ever After, a.k.a. Ils se Marient et eurait beaucoup d'enfants (some of the Radiohead soundtracks are kind of cool to listen to)

aslouie -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/3/2008 2:17:44 PM)

also on my list...

any Wong Kar-wai movie that utilized vintage pop music, i.e. Nat King Cole in In The Mood For Love, The Mamas & Papas in Chungking Express, Days of Being Wild, or even the song remakes found in Happy Together, Fallen Angels. I have yet to see My Blueberry Nights, given that it's more of a starring vehicle for Norah Jones (as opposed to WKW's prior, made-in-Hong Kong work).

alias007 -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/6/2008 1:38:35 PM)

Newbie here, but I decided to just jump right in after I posted in the introduction section.

I like several of the ones that have been mentioned:
Rudy
Last of the Mohicans
Edward Scissorhands

But my favorite has to be Meet Joe Black- Thomas Newman

uncabeeil -> RE: Film scores/soundtracks..what're your favorites? (5/6/2008 3:15:26 PM)

I love this thread! I collect movie soundtracks and score. I'm not hardcore about it, but I have about 100 soundtrack CDs. My fav's are John Williams (Jurassic Park, Superman, Home Alone) and James Newton Howard (Dinosaur, 6th Sense). I also really like Don Davis and Juno Reactor's Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.

The Man From Snowy River

How could I have forgotten that one! **slaps forehead**

If anyone watched The Player's golf tournament on NBC Sunday (5/11) they used this music when going to commercials.
