I haven't been on in a while or I would have posted this sooner.... Commenting on the Reunion Video..... have you noticed Jake Hess has two different wigs on in that video? During the singing he has on his black "combed over" wig... during the backstage interviews he has on his "gray curley" one

I quote Jake Hess himself. "I have a suitcase full of big wigs."

I didn't notice the hair exchange.

This reminds me - On the Landmark feature on Jake, he had the best story.

Seems he had to propose four times before his wife accepted. His first try was "How would you like to be buried with my people".

Its not really all that odd. The music and interview portions of the video were more than likely done at separate times. This would account for the different hair. I don't think Jake would have changed in the middle of the filming.

I am going to comment later on how the hairstyles and dress changed (improved) as the videos progressed.

Usually these tapings go 2 or 3 days and then edited. That would be why. He changes hair pieces like we change shirts.

My Jolly Friend make that pass tense and we agree. I think he probably now has a head full of wavy hair.

True my pistol packing friend. Was hastily posting before leaving for work and did not re-read post before sending. By the way, I sent you a couple of PM's from here at work.

When I get to heaven, one thing I want to see is David Ring singing Victory in Jesus with his new body and voice. His earthly version thrills be no end, so I can only imagine how beautiful it will be.

AMEN to that!!!!

All Day Singing and Dinner On the Ground. 1995

After my personal disappointment in Precious Memories, I was very pleased to see the series (in my opinion) get back on track with this video.

After an excellent introduction by Gloria Gaither, the choir did a fine rendition of Jesus Hold My Hand and Janet Paschal sang Lead Me To the Rock.

I noticed that Anthony Burger was at the piano for much of the video and I suppose this was the beginning of his being the primary pianist for the videos.

It was amazing how the hair of some of the older artists had gotten darker since the last video. Not so for Scott Fowler, who was sporting a spiffy two-tone haircut.

J.D Sumner had a duel with a pipe organ and famously quipped "I've left word not to have an organ at my funeral."

Wally Varner was featured on Keep On the Firing Line. During this piece I noticed Ivan Parker in the choir - the first time I recall seeing him there.

I lost track of a song or two because I was distracted by Dean Hopper and another gentlemen both wearing similar white shirts with black polka dots. Mrs. Kerrlaw and I kept trying to figure out which was Dean.

Janet Paschal then brought down the house with her second number: I'm Not Ashamed of the Gospel. I saw her at Family Fest in May and she didn't look a day older and sang just as well as she did 12 years ago.

Just some general observations: Bill gaither was more in the background (i.e. less prominent on camera) than in prior videos; John Hall has a really nice low voice; Sherri Easter (looking a baby lighter) did another fine job; in general the haircuts and dress are improving (they saw themselves on camera I guess).

The interviews and out takes of the meal under the tent were fun, and it was a hoot to see the car that Bill used to drive around in and try to get the Mull singing convention on the radio to see if they played any of his songs.

Chonda Pierce was hilarious until she put me off a little by doing a bit about torturing cats that I found in poor taste, but she has a very touching and compelling testimony.

The highlight of the video for me was Calvin Newton, a fine Irish tenor with a great testimony. He had sung with the Blackwood Brothers and the Oak Ridge Boys before falling on hard times and serving a prison term. His story about Jake Hess coming to see him and providing prayerful support was touching. Even more compelling was Bill and Gloria giving him a chance to sing again. He has been at Family Fest a couple of times, but this video appearance has inspired me to try and see him in concert sometime.

Good thing you didn't see Derrick joking about not liking his wife's cat the other night then...

Actually Derrick was just funny, and he didn't mention anything about torture.

...just extermination.

Having been offline for several minths, I just read all the posts on this thread for the first time. I have all but two or three of the latest videos, and I watch most of them quite frequently. One thing that I would add is the fact that Larry Ford got introduced to lots of folks who didn't know him before. I believe it was on the Reunion tape. I have know Larry personally since his Dixie Echoes days. He shared with my daughter that, on that video, James Blackwood asked Bill to let Larry Ford sing a song and Bill said Larry who? He then put it in the wrong key (too high), but Larry did it anyway with some adjustment on the end.
I am enjoying your reviews.

If I'm not mistaken, the B-Roll was shot at the Ryman. Hess had a toupe on. By the time the actual singing portion was shot, he had a full wig. These were several days, if not months apart in production. Maybe Gaither advanced ole Hess some $$$ and he bought himself a new 'Do!!!

hmm we are almost due for a new one....
Also I do not know if we are in one of them but watch for the Orpheus Choir in any of the Indiana Homecoming videos. Our choir was invited there from olivet yearly to participate in the "Home" homecoming in Indiana. Do not know if we were caught on video but we were there singing when needed. (And if you do see something of us let me know what video so i can make sure to get it.)

I hope that it is OK to bring this back to the top.

We stopped the project last year when demands on our time made it difficult to watch for long periods (not to mention having to take notes while watching).

So rather than have to start over and watch the first ones again, I decided to revive the thread.

Maybe this time you should start with the newest one, and work your way backwards? .... or just continue where you left off, either one would be fine with me.

My grandma has almost all, if not all of the videos...I think pretty much in order from release.
What was the last one you watched Kerrlaw1?

Why hasn't Gaither re-released those Gospel Singing Jubilee videos on DVD. He has got a gold mine with the rights to that footage.
