OK, November is not going to happen after all. We are moving late October. And Dh doesn't want to miss any CFL playoffs. [:D]

So, how late in March can we go without it being too busy?

Our baby is due Jan 20th. Assuming the "worst" and I go late by 10/11 days, that's a Jan 31st baby. Which means if we go beginning of March the baby would only be 4 weeks old. Ideally I'd like to wait till the baby is 6 weeks old - still young enough that's they're sleeping fairly easily during the day, but "old" enough that they're a bit easier, and sleeping better at night.

So - when is the latest in March you'd recommend going?

March starts the Spring Break season, so be careful about when you go. The crowds start to pick up mid month. The closer you get to Easter the busier it gets.

Yes, Spring Break was my exact concern! So it starts around mid-month?

Isn't the Superbowl usually mid-February? The baby would only be 2 or 3 weeks then, so that's probably pushing it too much. that totally makes sense that it would be a slow day!

If you could do it, they are having night of joy in Sept. There are going to be lots of bands there and the parks stay open late. You can look it up on their website.

I just checked our calendar. They haven't posted next year's spring break yet, but this year, it started on March 5. We're usually on the front end of spring break season.

My hubby and daughter went to Night of Joy last year and the park was PACKED. My daughter loved it because of the bands but she said they only got on 2-3 rides.

There is an article in today's paper that Disney is raising it's prices: one day tickets are $71 beginning on Sunday (8/5). The article says that "discount packages will also be affected" but the "per day cost could be less than $23 for adults who buy a 10 day package". The article goes on to say that last time Disney raised it's prices Universay and Sea World also had increases.

OK, update.

We are planning to go in April because the baby will be a bit older than (due end of January) and the March "rush" should be over.

I was checking out prices for park tickets. I'm thinking that due to the ages of our kids (infant, 2, 5, 7) at the time, we won't need to park hop - we'll stick to one a day! Anyway, we'll need 2 adult and 2 kid passes. For 3 days that would total around $800. But 6 days for 1 adult and 1 kid would only total $425. Couldn't we order 6 days worth of tickets for 1 adult and 1 child and use 2 of each per day? I'm assuming that doesn't work or everybody would do it - but, just in case, does it?

I don't think you can order the tickets that way because you have to assign an name to each ticket pack and you can only use one ticket from the pack at any one park in a day. Not totally sure about that, but I think that is how it works. I have not read the entire thread so if some of this is a rehash, I apologize. One, I would skip Epcot with kids the ages of yours. Personally, Mark and I love Epcot but it is a ton of walking for very little "kid friendly" pay off. Animal Kingdom on the other hand is really nice and you should see the Lion King show. Also, FastPass is a really good way to skip some of the lines. You can only have one or two at a time so you have to plan a bit. Your older 2 would probably like the Buzz ligthyear ride at Magic Kingdom, but it might be too much for the 2/3 year old. Lots of flashing lights and loud noises. Depends on your kids. You might want to invest is a guide book for Disney, there are several available - at least one is all about Disney with kids. Also, if you want a neat place to visit that is a little different try Gatorland. It is pretty close to Orlando and it is interesting. They have alligator shows, picture opportunities with gators and other animals and you can feed the gators hot dogs (this is a lot of fun and the hot dogs are pretty cheap). There are also a lot of nice birds that nest over the gator swamp. I am sure you already know this but the food/drink prices at Disney are outrageous. You can easily spend $50+ just buying your gang lunch and 1 drink each. And that is assuming kids prices for 3 out of 5 of you. Not sure if that is a factor for you, but thought I would mention it. Also, do you have a AAA membership? They offer discount tickets for Disney and other places and it might be worth checking out. I hope you and your family have a lot of fun - I think you 2 oldest kids are at the perfect ages. I can't wait until my little one is big enough to visit Mickey and Pooh. One other thing, you might want to find out when Bike Week in Daytona is, that spills over into the Orland area and if you are driving to/from it really complicates things. Once again, have a great time!

ETA: No worries about Bike Week; it is 2/29-3/9 in 2008. You will be home with your newest little one! Yeah! And Yeah for the "big sibs" too!

Three days will probably be less stressful since you won't have to worry about rushing around trying to fit everything in. Epcot is more of a 2 day visit--I'd do the countries one day, and everything else another day. I know Kris suggested to skip Epcot because of your kids ages, but I've got to disagree. I was about 4 when we did Magic Kingdom, and about 5 for Epcot and I remember really liking Epcot. Of course, I am a nerd[8|], but in general, I think Epcot is worth it.

While you're in the area, I'd also suggest a day trip over to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center.

We have never been, but my pastor and his family went recently.
Their advice is to "buy the meal plan", that this saves some bucks.

Are you allowed to bring any food or drinks into the parks?

If so, I don't think eating will be much of a problem. We'll make sure to have a big breakfast and then just have snacks and drinks still mid-afternoon at which point we'll probably head home.

If you go to Epcot, make sure you see the "new" Canada movie..supposedly we're not portrayed as Lumberjacks anymore!!!

I don't think you can bring food into the park, I imagine it would be the same as Canada's Wonderland...they want you to spend your money in there on everything. However, Wonderland does have exceptions for people who have special diet needs so maybe Disney has the same thing. They can't force you to eat their food if you have special needs (and if you're nursing I'm sure that counts).

I don't know about Disney, but I used to work at Dollywood and I am sure their rules are similar. Like Lexie said, they can't stop you from special dietary needs, however they do limit very much what you can bring in. Dollywood allowed you to bring in water, and crackers or small snacks for kids...but that was it. These were set by the (I think) federal standards though, not something they could change. You did have the option of having food in your car and going back out of the park to eat (which we used to do all the time). They stamped our hands and we would come back in after we ate.
OK...I found on their site their dietary specs.....

They have a free service where they can cater special needs in food to your dining desires. Pretty cool!!! (and it's free!!! they even have a whole list of Kosher places!!!). I would guess from their many options on park though that you are very very limited with what you are allowed to bring in with you. They have a phone number there on that page that you can call to talk to someone about your specific needs.

We don't have any specific needs - I'm just cheap! [:D] I'd rather pack my own homemade sub then eat a $10 hot dog - plus it would taste better. If we can at least bring water and some snacks (granola bars, crackers) for the kids - we should be able to avoid buying too much food at the park.

you will have to call and find out their specific rules...I know a lot of places do not set the rules themselves, it goes back to federal standards. Anything on their land they are responsible for even if they didn't put it there...so places like disney (and even restaurants) do not allow you to bring in your own food because of health department reg's

Disney world is it's own entity as far as the state is concerned, Walt bought the property and made it into its own town/county and it has it's own zoning regulations.. pretty interesting/bizarre business plan he had.

At Disney LAND here in Cali we can bring in as much water as we want and limited amount of snacks, granola bars etc. The best thing for a family would be to take a large cooler full of ice and pack your food in it and leave it in the car, make sure there is a LOT of ice, Florida is hot all year round. ICKY. thats why we don't live there anymore :)

If you want to cut food costs in the park order the kids meal for EvERYONE. It's still a good portion of food, you won't feel full and bloated, it will get you through to the main meal of the day off the park land.

We have had friends come out here and do days at DisneyLand and they all agree that taking lunch back at their hotel along with naps for little ones helped to break up the day.

I'm getting all excited again because we are going New Years Day and I can't wait. We don't have kids yet, though I will be 4 mnths pregnant, so does that count as baby's first trip? BUT I LOVE DISNEYLAND, we go several times a year on the typical slow days. I could go every weekend if I had a season pass.

If you really want to read more than you ever thought you wanted to know about the whole separate entity thing, Carl Hiassen has a book called Team Rodent that's quite the read. Disney's property is all part of the "Reedy Creek Improvement District", and the way said improvement district is set up, all decisions are made by the landowners, and guess who the sole landowner is? Why the Disney Corp, that's who[:D]. They're almost entirely unregulated by the state of Florida--even things like elevator inspections that are normally done by the state are done by Reedy Creek. When Walt bought up all the land, he did it through shadow corporations so that people wouldn't catch wind and drive up the price of the land, though apparently the guy who owned the land where Cinderella's castle is now figured out what was going on and held out and did pretty well for himself (heard that story from that guy's granddaughter).

Oh yeah, definitely pack your food with plenty of ice. When we had Busch Gardens season passes, we'd always bring our lunch and eat in the parking lot. We'd use one of those 2 gallon Igloo coolers that you can fill half full with ice and then put an insert in the top half for your food. By the time we'd head out for lunch, the ice would be melted enough that we had nice cold ice water to drink and the food would still be good and cold.

Well, we officially booked our flights and are awaiting confirmation of our house rental from Romancing the Mouse!

I'm so excited! We're going April 19 - 26 - woohoo!

I think we'll definitely book the Cinderella breakfast one day, and I think we're going to go only to the Magic Kingdom - either 2 or 3 days. The other days we'll be chilling out by our private pool. [:D]

I found the Unofficial Guide to Disney world website today - do you think it's worth it to buy the book ($18.99)? Or should I just subscribe to the website ($7.95 for one year, with 45 day moneyback guarantee) - or not bother at all? Has anyone used it?

I'm sure I'll be back closer to April asking for more tips!

I love Magic Kingdom!! I have been 3 times. I went to Epcot when I was 13 and I hated it. I have always wanted to go to the Animal Kingdom. Chris has never been, so as soon as the baby is old enough we are going.
