How's the little man doing? Getting any better?

Yes he is back to his usual playful, jovial self...all smiles.

Still recovering from yesterday. I don't wear a suit very often.

One of the ladies in the choir lost a long battle with cancer. Her funeral was yesterday. She's home now.

At least you weren't asked to be a made of honor like in that film that came out this year.

Nope.

And for once I wasn't asked to be a pall bearer either. That seems to happen to me a lot. (Not that I mind. It is an honor.)

Ok then, I am feeling my usual Saturday slumber. I do not know why, but I always seem to feel tired on Saturdays.

Things are not well with DD#2's marriage. It looks very much as though they are separating now.

I am sorry Ray about having to wear a suit, the loss of a friend and the separation of your daughter and her husband.

Sorry to hear about dd#2's marriage. Does that mean that you'll be having her move back home with Alex?

I'm glad Alex is better.

The County Fair is ongoing this week. It started on Sunday. They have a merchant building containing a series of booths for various merchants and organizations. Tooshy and I volunteered to spend about five hours in the booth for the soup kitchen.

We've never done anything like that. It was very interesting. We sold hats and T-shirts. There were informational tracts to hand out. Also a donation container was available. It was a lot of fun just to people watch as everyone walked past our little booth.

Talking to strangers is not really my forte. Tooshy is even less inclined and was more than happy to let me do the talking. What I did like though was that the interactions went quite well. A lot of people were asking about who we were and how we operated. More wanted to know how to go about volunteering. Many people gave to the donation jar and it had to be emptied several times. Others would be very happy to see our booth and gave plenty of encouragement and praise.

Even the ones that didn't stop on their way past would often start talking about the soup kitchen with whomever were in their company. Sometimes it's good just to show a presence and remind people that we're here feeding the hungry.

Last week we picked up a wheelchair for Tooshy. We got to break it in at the fair. It would have been a long walk from the handicap parking to the merchant building and that would have done her in. After serving our time in the booth, we were able to walk around the rest of the fair and take in the sights. It makes things a lot easier with the wheelchair and my wife doesn't have to suffer as much.

I don't like talking to strangers either...But once you start talking to them they may not be so strange anymore.
