But Rich, if they didn't have them, they would have been wiped away years ago. It's okay for them to have them because they are "God's chosen people", you know. It's also okay for them to spy on their main ally, the U.S. for the very same reason.

Come on, Rich. Get with the program. Didn't you know all that?

Of course, Ccoppenbarger; how foolish of me.

After all, the State of Israel was created via an enterprise of conquest, as per the statements of famous Zionist figures. But who cares? It doesn't matter that they used terrorism and violence against innocent Arabs to create their state. They're God's people! And that's why they are the only country that gets US aid which is not required to give to our leaders an accounting of how American aid is spent. And, because they are Abraham's progeny, they are excused with breaking US law (as Israel did in Lebanon by utilizing US-manufactured cluster bombs against civilian targets - in fact, Israel used millions of such bomblets in the last few days of their 2006 war).

It sure must be great to be regarded by American Christians as God's people even when much of Israel is secular, some of it atheist, and while Judaism wholeheartedly rejects Y'Shua as the Meshiach.

I have just deleted a bunch of posts. Most of these posts since I reopened the thread are off topic. The point of this thread is Israel in the News, and it seems the focus is more on the other members posting in here.

Check your PM box. If your posts are gone but you did not receive a PM then your posts were removed only to clean up the thread as they were in response to off topic comment.

Asking someone about their blog should have been done via PM.

Commenting about someone debating style is unwelcome counsel.

Asking if someone is Arab is off topic.

Asking how many of a member's post have been critical of terrorists or Israel is off topic.

and even discussing Jews coming to Jesus is off topic unless you have a news article about it.

Lets stick to discussing Israel in the News and not each other.

Thank you.

Sincerely
Kath

Hello RichLP,

I have been meaning to write and apologize for a comment I made in my last post in this thread. Life has not been nice to me lately and I seemed to be taking it out on you.

Your concept of the situation in the Middle East seems to based mainly on relatively recent historic events. Yes, some of the Arab countries have made peace with Israel, but only after repeated failed attempts to work together as one body to invade and wipe the state of Israel off the globe. That in addition to the fact that in 1948 all these Arab people, as one body, denounced the formation of a country for Jews and a country for Arab Palestinians under the British Mandate. My point being that since they have not succeeded to wiping Israel off the globe they may have to settle for the solution first offered by the UN in 1948- a country for Jewish Palestinans, and another country for Arab Palestinians.

My reason for the comment about war crimes was that while you seem to be quick to point out war crimes that Israel may have committed you fail to mention the fact that since 1948, when Arabs opposed to the formation of Israel convinced Arab Palestinians to abandon their homes in Israel, have treated these people as second class citizens in their own countries. Also, these people also use innocent civilians as shields and targets in their propoganda war against Israel and the US, both examples clearly stated and understod as war crimes. Where is your cricisim of these acts?

Melchior: Alert Abbas to PA textbooks

PMW director Itamar Marcus told the Education Committee that the new schoolbooks were - for the first time - uniquely focused on portraying the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a religious war.

"According to these books," Marcus told the MKs, "the war over this land is a war for Muslim land, and will end only with the resurrection of the dead." The books teach that "recognition of Israel is forbidden by religion," he said.

The last quote from the article:
Zuhri's comment came after Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilna'i said Friday that "as long as the rocket attacks escalated, the Palestinians are bringing upon themselves a bigger Shoah [Holocaust]."

What are the Israelis saying here?

But isn't this why most American Christians support Israel and deny that the Palestinians are even a people?

10 Gaza civilians among dead, including 5 children

At least 34 Palestinians were killed, among them 10 civilians - including five children and three women - during an ongoing Israel Defense Forces ground incursion near the northern Gaza Strip town of Jabaliya which began before dawn Saturday.

Five IDF soldiers were wounded during the fighting - three of them lightly and two others who suffered light to moderate injuries. The soldiers were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheba for treatment.

Sources in Gaza report that IDF soldiers exchanged heavy gunfire with Palestinian gunmen on the eastern outskirts of Jabaliya, situated 2-3 kilometers from the fence which lies on the Israel-Gaza border.

The ground forces, which included units from Givati Brigades, the Armored Corps, and the Engineering Corps, received air support from the Israel Air Force.

Hamas slams 'int'l silence' over Gaza; Abbas urges UN debate
Hamas officials on Saturday condemned what they called "international silence" over Israel Defense Forces operations in Gaza, in which some 60 Palestinians have been killed since Wednesday, including 32 in an IDF raid in northern Gaza on Saturday.

Hamas said the lack of response included no reaction from members of the Arab world.

The latest round of fighting erupted Wednesday, when the IDF killed five Gaza militants responsible for ongoing rocket fire on southern Israel, which triggered a massive rocket barrage.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called Saturday for the United Nations Security Council to convene over events in Gaza, Israel Radio reported

Blockade can't divide some Israeli, Palestinian friends

Despite conflict, Israelis try to help Gazans to whom they have longstanding ties.

By Josh Mitnick | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
from the January 25, 2008 edition

Kibbutz Kfar Azza, Israel - Their homes separated by a wheat field, barbed wire, and Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, it's been more than two years since Amir Efrat last saw the Gazan who helped him maintain the water systems in this collective.

But he has talked to him by phone – and could hear the despair that lurked behind the small talk. And so, about a month ago, he instructed the kibbutz treasurer to wire 500 shekels ($135) to an account in Gaza to help his unemployed friend support a family of nine children.

His friend never requested help, but "I felt him ask," says the rumpled kibbutznik. "There's no work. It's difficult."

I don't have time to search through this thread, but if you read through here, you will see several posts where posters have said that there is no such thing as a Palestinian people. That it's all a myth and a lie to try to take away God-given land. They try to say that the land was mostly desolate, but have no proof.

From the book, Whose Promised Land, by Colin Chapman(pg. 27):
"In 1880, the total population of Palestine was about 480,000. Of these, the total number of Arabs was around 456,000."

Those opposed to the idea of even a Palestinian state say it should not happen because Arabs were not in control of the land anyway. That is false. There are plenty of posts that I have refuted saying that there is no such thing as a Palestinian.

ccoppenbarger,

I understand that you do not have the time to do in depth research. Neither do I. I think part of the problem with some threads in this forum is that there are some who have entirely too much time on their hands for research that tends to be very one sided and incomplete. The Middle East/ Near East situation is very complex, to say the least, and no where as simple as some would have the rest of us to believe it to be. The simple fact is that for every documented fact one side presents, the other side can and has presented a documented fact in direct oppostition to the first person's fact.

So, in an effort to help clarify some things I would like to ask you what your definition of a Palestinian is.

If you have time for it, here is a decent article from Wikipedia that covers many of the arguments.

This debate would be academic if the Hebrews had actually followed God's command to kill or drive out all the area's inhabitants and not allow them to remain in the area.

Deuteronomy 9:1 Hear, O Israel. You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky. 2 The people are strong and tall--Anakites! You know about them and have heard it said: "Who can stand up against the Anakites?" 3 But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the Lord has promised you. 4 After the Lord your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, "The Lord has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness." No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is going to drive them out before you. 5 It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.6 Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.
