I do not know when this was written and I did not check with snopes.com or truthorfiction.com to see if it is true or not. I like what it says and so I am forwarding it on to you. You may pass it on to your email list or delete it. That is up to you. Have a great day. Santa David Letterman wrote this; it's the David we don't often see... > > 'As most of you know I am not a President > Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not > about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it > seems to hit the mark." > 'The other day I was reading Newsweek > magazine and came across some Poll data I found > rather hard to believe. The good ole days! If any of you have doubt about what we kids paid for a coke and a sandwich at Woolworth's in 1950, here's proof of the era we lived........and it was a GREAT ERA to live as a teenager !!!! Typical Saturday night date in 1950. Ask Dad for the Car. Put in $1 worth of gas, about 5 gallons. Pick up date, by going to the door, no blowing horn and she comes running out. Drive to town, park car at meter, 15 cents, or parking deck valet, 50 cents, impressing your date. Movie ticket, 50 cents each, or $1 for both. After Movie, drive to Car Hop, order two Cheese Burgers, two Fries and two Milk shakes, total $1.70 and leave 30 cents on the tray for the car hop in short shorts. Watch the Ford drivers line up on one side and the Chevy drivers line up on the other and argue with each other while you eat. You could buy Popcorn at the movie for less than a quarter. Drive her home, and if you are lucky, maybe a good night kiss or a "let's go out again". All of that for under $5, today it would be about $70 for the same good time.

I have posted stories from Bob Perks before and the story I am posting today I have seen before and did not know he wrote this story. Prior to the story I will post what Bob has to say about how people use his stories with using his name. That is why each time I post one of his stories his anme and info is with every story. Hope you enjoy: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello, my Friend! Last week I told you about two stories I wrote, both of which found their way into print without my permission. One, the book I wrote and self published, "The Flight of a Lifetime!" is yet to be confronted and resolved. The other..."I wish you enough!" has been resolved in a way that only God would believe. For now I see it was all an answer to my prayers. That story will be shared with you this week. I must take my time in the telling of it. It's even hard for me to believe. But, I am a believer. So, today I decided to send out one of my classic stories that has also been posted around the world without my name under titles like "Rain," "the Wal-mart story" etc. Sadly, facts have been changed, names and genders, too. I will never for the life of me understand why someone could change someone Else's work and not feel obligated to the original writer. In celebration of all the good I believe and see in others, I resend one of my favorite true moments... "They ran through the rain believing..." copyright 2001 The same year I first sent out "I wish you enough." I love you all! Bob and Marianne ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today's message: "They ran through the rain believing..." by Bob Perks © 2001 I listen. That's where my stories come from. I speak. That's how I get to meet the most incredible people. But sometimes just listening from afar is enough to fill my heart. I don't always need to say hello to bring a perfect stranger into my life. Conversations overheard are lessons in life sometimes even more powerful than those we are a part of. This brief encounter filled my day to capacity. If only they knew the gift they gave me. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful brown haired, freckled faced image of innocence. Her Mom looked like someone from the Walton's or a moment captured by Norman Rockwell. Not that she was old fashioned. Her brown hair was ear length with enough curl to appear natural. She had on a pair of tan shorts and light blue knit shirt. Her sneakers were white with a blue trim. She looked like a Mom. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the tops of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the Earth it has no time to flow down the spout. Drains in the nearby parking lot were filled to capacity and some were blocked so that huge puddles laked around parked cars. We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others aggravated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rain fall. I get lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child come pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day. Her voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said. "What?" Mom asked. "Let's run through the rain!" she repeated. "No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied. This young child waited about another minute and repeated her statement. "Mom. Let's run through the rain." "We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said. "No we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm. "This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?" "Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, "If God can get us through this, He can get us through anything!" The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say. Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If God let's us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," Mom said. Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few believers who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. Perhaps inspired by their faith and trust. I want to believe that some where down the road in life, Mom will find herself reflecting back on moments they spent together, captured like pictures in the scrapbook of her cherished memories. Maybe when she watches proudly as her daughter graduates. Or as her Daddy walks her down the aisle on her wedding day. She will laugh again. Her heart will beat a little faster. Her smile will tell the world they love each other. But only two people will share that precious moment when they ran through the rain believing that God would get them through. Yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing. "I believe in you!" Bob Perks © 2001 "I believe in you!" Bob I encourage you to share my stories but I do ask that you keep my name and contact information with my work. If you would like to receive Bob's Inspirational stories, please visit http://www.IWishYouEnough.com and submit your email address.

Been there and done this. Will try to do better. God Bless: Who’s Tooting the Horn? Have you ever been around someone who liked to toot their own horn? They (could it be you?) always make sure everyone in earshot knows about what they’ve accomplished, how hard they’ve worked or how good they are at something. Proverbs 27:2 says, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth…” When we praise ourselves, we are saying several things that hurt our witness of Jesus Christ and detract from His glory. Through such words, we communicate to others that we are either prideful, selfish or insecure. It shows that our hearts are not humble and we do not trust in the God who lifts up those who lay their lives down for His name. When others praise us, it is evidence of God’s good work in our lives and we rejoice. Let others praise you today and be quick to give God the glory for all He has done in you. Craig Mintz Associate Pastor, Singles & Discipleship First Baptist, Sevierville, Tn.

WE CAN HAVE A SAY Sittting in the middle of another hot day, August almost gone, September on its way. Seems like months are just days apart, Kids are ready for school to start. Some folks praying for rain on their grass, Others hoping for a break in the price of gas. Some are blessed with a load of wealth, Others praying for help with their health. Youngsters outside in their running shoes, Old folks inside still paying their dues. Time goes so fast, always in a whirl, then there's the trouble in this old world. We can't change the world, but please remember, We can have a big say about the USA in November. TPP

To keep FRESH FLOWERS longer Add a little Clorox , or 2 Bayer aspirin , or just use 7-up instead of water. 42. When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you 'squeeze' for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are: Monday = Blue, Tuesday = Green, Thursday = Red Friday = White Saturday = Yellow. So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping. Don't forget Gatorade for Migraine Headaches. Power Ade won't work. Pass this information on to friends so they can be informed.

I expected a comment about that but it was on the list and I would have had to re-number all those others if I left it off. Kerr, use your own discretion as to how much.

WORDS OF WISDOM You cannot do anything about what is gone, but you can do something about what is left. Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything; so if I am going to learn, I must do it by listening. There is always plenty of time, if you do not hurry. The miracle is not that I finished, the miracle is that I found the courage to start. Keep in mind that it is easier to be pulled down than to be pulled up. Happiness seems less a matter of getting what we want than to wanting what we have. The only people to get even with are those who have helped you. A path is nothing unless it is taken.
