Hannah came to me one day and told me that she told Emma that if she went in the potty seat that she could wear her panties. That worked....she went in there, so she came and told me this when she was looking for the panties for her...lol. So I didn't have to potty train her...lol. YAY!!! Got out of it!!!! [color]

My mom keeps telling me that all she had to do with me is put on lacy socks and mary janes and say, "You don't want to get your pretty socks & shoes wet, do you" LOL

quote:

We are currently potty training! During the day, I decided to take away the diapers at least while dd2 and I are home alone--everyone else is at school/work. She is wearing dresses (she wanted her bottom covered) with a naked bum. She is doing pretty well, but sometimes she will tell me that she needs a diaper (so she can go pee/poop). It is a bit funny sometimes because she will wait until the very last minute to go potty.

Myka,
As a fellow nakie bum household, I'm sure our days are looking pretty much the same Do you set a time after each wee, and if so, how long is your dd going inbetween?

quote:

1. How long will I have to keep getting the 4.5 year old up? Will he ever just wake up around that time on his own and go? I'm not exactly sure how long I keep this going, but it's working so well...I don't want to make a mistake now...

2. Should I TRY to get the 3.5 year old up again through the night, or just keep dealing with it this way until things get better?

VinW,
IMHO, you won't know if he will wake up on his own until you let him. Both of my boys (5 & almost 4) will wake up when necessary. We just had to stop waking them to see what would happen and were pleasantly surprised. That's not to say we haven't had the occasional accident, but they take care of that on their own, too, by putting the wet pj's in the basket, putting on new ones and then crawling in with us. We are good with that, we just get up and change the sheets in the morning.

Maybe you could let 4.5 sleep and wake on his own and keep waking 3.5, but add a wee(no pun intended) morning wake up, too? Do you get up before them now? If my almost 4 wets it always in the wee morning hours!

So, Riley update - Day 2:

She is thoroughly enjoying the whole nakie bum aspect. We had several wees and half a poo in her potty, YEAY! I have realized that its better to leave her bottomless until she has gone several times after drinking, then let her put on training panties...if she wets them, she doesn't always tell me, but if she wets on the floor she sure lets me know!

I don't really tell dd when to go. She tends to be a bit strong-willed, so I try not to push -- just let her be in control of it. She can go a few hours between wee times. She has asked me for a diaper. I just say no diapers. So her choice is either go on the potty or on the floor(which isn't much fun and hasn't happened much--even after our long weekend of diapers).

Here's my latest delimma:

Riley is wearing training panties at home and pullups for sleep & outings. She has started a frustrating trend of knowing she is going to wet while in her pullup and immediately taking it off, telling me, "pee-pee!" but just wetting her panties and not always wanting me to take them off??

Anyone have any thoughts as to what is going on and what adjustments I can make? Thanks!

How often do you ask her if she wants to go?

Every 30 minute for 2 hours after a meal/snack w/drink, then she can go a few hours in the middle of the day, so I back off because I think I was started to stress her out. The novelty of her potty seat has worn off and it has become almost impossible to entice her to just sit on it while doing something else and let things happen. So we go and sit on it and if something doesn't happen right away, she doesn't want to stay on it and I don't want to force her, or should I?

take her to the potty (in the bathroom) every time you go. If you don't have to go on her schedule, sit there anyway...and take her to sit on her seat. Start teaching her the appropriateness of it and she might change her tune.

We've been doing that for months. She isn't opposed to going to sit on the potty at all, she happily skips on in there and sits, she just doesn't want to hang around very long anymore.

LOL...I literally gasped, then laughed when I read your post! That is a super idea. She dearly loves to get into my makeup drawer, and I never let her...I don't know what I'm protecting it for, I hardly ever use it anymore!!

if you don't want her getting into that, go spend $10 at the dollar store getting child friendly colors for her to use. Then you can take daily pics of her success...make a cute book for her. You could even build it....the first time she can do nail polish....the second time she can do blush, third time lipstick, etc.

Wuell, I'm not ready to get that carried away, she isn't even two yet, LOL. I did make her her own make-up bag w/ sponges, brushes and empty containers, she was thrilled for about 10 minutes, then had no interest in sitting on the potty even to play with her new booty!! And, btw, she wet her panties 5 minutes later, but she did come running to tell me...

I thought girls were supposed to be easier than boys, grr

i was just about to say that Sarah, she isnt ready yet, she is still just working things out so either stop or just let her run around bare bottom which is easier to get pants off etc so there won't be accidents.

This is what we are doing for the most part. I put her panties on after she has gone and we have a little time. There is no going back now, LOL! I can relax things a little for her, but she doesn't keep a diaper on AT ALL when we are home, so we MUST figure this out.

She even took her zip-up footie pj's off last night so she could get her diap off after she wee'd! So this morning, I cut the feet off and she will be wearing those backwards!!

if she doesn't like the diaper then you can use it as incentive. tell her "if you won't sit on the potty then you have to wear a diaper". Don't use it as a "you peed on yourself" kind of thing, just use it as incentive to get her butt on the potty...that's the first step.

Oh my goodness, MamaMilty, that sounds exactly like what my daughter was doing a couple months ago. She would sit and sit on the potty and then 2 minutes after she got off, she'd potty on the floor because she would not keep a diaper on no matter what I did (Luckily we have tile floors so cleanup wasn't a nightmare). A lot of people told me that she wasn't ready to be potty trained if she was doing that, but if she won't keep a diaper on, you really don't have any other choice than to do something about it.

What I did was I would keep an eye on her right after she sat on the potty if she didn't actually go and if I saw any signs that she was gonna go on the floor, I put her back on the potty. If I didn't catch her in time, then I would still put her on the potty and tell her that that is where she needs to do that. I also went and bought her big girl panties with her favorite characters on them, we have Dora and Care Bears, and told her that she could start every day in her big girl panties, but if she went potty in them, she had to where her training pants (we used cloth training pants instead of pull-ups cuz she absolutely hated having wet legs so cloth were better for her). Also, I made sure that she got some sort of reward, like stickers, immediately after she went in the potty even before cleanup and that seemed to help.

I hope any or all of that helps you. Here's an encouraging thought for you, once we got over that hump in the potty training, my daughter was completely potty trained, day and night, within a month, so maybe yours will be too. Good luck.

Thanks! We took a break for a few days, but she tells me before she goes everytime and insists on taking that pullup right off. I am going to start fresh on Monday and do exactly what you did.

Yeay Grace!!

Nicole, do you have a plastic cover on her mattress? You can find one that zips closed all around the mattress for like, $5. It really relieved the stress of the occasional accident around this house.

Hey all! Getting a late start jumping in here, but wanted to ask a question that hopefully hasn't been asked already (haven't read every post). My little girl will be 3 in April and we have been potty training for about 2 or 3 weeks now. We started with pull-ups and she did okay with going to the potty, but occasionally I'd find the pull-up a bit wet, so we missed trips here and there. Then a week ago we sold her crib and changing table and set up her toddler bed and she absolutely loves it. Has slept comfortably and peacefully every night, but she went 2 or 3 days just after that change where she didn't have any desire to potty at all. No problem...just pulled out the diapers again because I kind of expected a big change would step us back a bit.

Latest news is that we are doing cotton panties during the day and she's going to pee on the potty like a trouper...yay! The problem is that she doesn't have any "usual" time that she poops and it's always a surprise and never at the same time and always a big poop mess (panties, clothes, everything)...so much so that I bag her panties and throw them away. No way in this world am I going to try to clean them. So, what is the answer when she does fantastic going to pee, but we've got this poop situation?

Thanks! (Oh, you can click on my screen name to see her picture)

Maybe you could change her diet a bit to make those poo's not so messy? Adding fiber would do it and it just might make her more rebular

One of my ds's was pee-trained, but took forever to want to poop in the potty. He would hold it until naptime when I put a pullup on him and in minutes he would poop. I don't think he would have ever chosen to go on the potty until we went out of town and I "ran-out" of his pullups. He held it as long as he possibly could then nature took over and he had no choice...we were driving home at the time, so his 1st time was actually the side of the road into a baggy (TMI, sorry, but it cracked me up) So after that drama the potty was just not so scary anymore! LOL

So, I don't think that story helps you at all, but I had forgotten about that fiasco until I read your post.

Oh my, well I do feel there's hope.

Okay, we do have her getting a good amount of fiber in her diet plus she has Benefiber added to her milk + Carnation every day (she's been on a calorie booster diet because she was preemie and stayed below the growth chart for a long time...back to normal height and weight now ).
