If you love these boards, and love Brian Free and the guys as much as I do, this is your place to talk about them! I've been an avid supporter of them ever since the GC lineup of Jay Parrack and gang moved on, and they've only grown in popularity with both myself, and with many SG fans since then!

I was wondering how old Brian Free is, precisely. I thought he was close to 50, but maybe he's not that old. Anybody know?

Feel free to share the songs you like, why you like them, why you don't like them, whatever! [;)]

danielmount -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 6:03:56 AM)

Note to Ps103: Could you add to the groups thread?

I liked "Live in New York City." That was still traditional enough for me. "It's So God" was rather progressive, but I do like the song "It's All About the Blood."

Dinana -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 6:21:26 AM)

If I were to guess, I'd guess Brian is between 45 and 48. He started with Gold City in 1980 and I'm sure he was pretty young at the time.

He got his job with Gold City when he was 18. That would make him 45, I think.

youngartist -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 8:12:01 AM)

Wow! For 45 he is definitely the strongest tenor I have ever heard.

Daniel, "It's All About The Blood" is absolutely fabulous!

Other greats, "If It Takes A Valley," "Only By The Blood," "My Answer Is Yes," "It's Still My Father's World, "Long As I Got King Jesus," and "Greater Still."

Seaton -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 8:35:39 AM)

I have grown to really like Brian Free & Assurance over the last year and half. It took their two most recent albums (Live In New York City/It's So God). Also, in 2006, I believe I saw them in concert at least a half dozen times, so that also helped. I have never been a big fan of tenor singing and since the group's tenor is such a large part of their sound, I believe that is what kept me away from really getting into their music. As long as they keep recording albums like their last two i'll keep listening.

AdamEdwards -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 8:39:55 AM)

Do you have a complete discography for BF&A? I have many of their projects, but I don't know if I have them all because I don't have a complete list.....

Here is what I have come up with:

Album - Year
At Your Request - 1995
Live In Atlanta - 1995
4 God So Loved - 1996
A Glimpse of Gold - 1997
Doing This For You - 1998
Brian Free (Solo) - 1999
Call Of The Cross (Solo) - 2000
Lovin This Livin For The Lord - 2001
So Close To Home - 2002
Timeless Hymns & Classics - 2002
Greater Still - 2003
Live In New York City - 2005
Christmas With BF&A - 2005
It's So God! - 2006

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 8:41:33 AM)

I think my favorite one of their was called Timeless Hymns & Classics. That had great song selection!

youngartist -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 8:58:32 AM)

Adam, it's only been within the past year or two that I've really started following them, so I do not have the complete discography - yet. I do have all four of their latest releases, as well as songs from "Lovin' This Livin," "So Close To Home," "Glimpse Of Gold," "4 God So Loved," and "Doing This For You."

Just curious, of how many groups do you own their complete discography?

Actually, if you were to ask me to name any group which I have their entire discography, I could barely name one. However, if you were to ask me of how many groups do I own their latest album, I could name an army. [:D] I tend to buy the latest products from my favorite groups, but I am slowly accumalating the older stuff from these groups as well.
For instance, I have albums such as:

It's So God - BF&A
Good Good God - Kingsmen
Revival - Gold City
The Ride - Hoppers
Live In Music City - Legacy Five
Something's Happening - Mercy's Mark
Never The Same - Dove Bros
Graceland - Mike Bowling Group
Promises - Three Bridges

I tend to buy the new, record-label-release albums.

Adam,
Of the groups you listed I also have the complete sets of Lordsong, Poet Voices and Tony Gore & Majesty. I am not certain about the Whisnants. I have several cassette tapes from the late '80s when Jeff's Mom/Dad were still in the group. I don't know if I would even know what their first album was.

Adam-

My all time favorite CD of BF&A that I have hasn't been mentioned (that I could find). It's called "Things That Last Forever". It was their 2nd project I think. It's really good![:)]

Any idea what the year was on the project.....I'm guessing it was around 1995.

zmanfan38 -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 11:41:18 AM)

Woohoo! Thanks for asking because I went looking for the CD case and found BF&A Live In New York City inside...been missing that one!

You are right...it's from 1995. It's from their trio days with Mike Lefevre and (help me out here...I've gone brain numb on who the other guy was).

If you can find it you should grab it!

gospelady -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 11:55:04 AM)

Brian was born March 29, 1963. That makes him 44 this year.

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 11:55:30 AM)

Kevin Price , i believe.

gospelady -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 12:02:18 PM)

There are a couple of others that were made with the Trio. BRIAN FREE & ASSURANCE, ASSURANCE, THINGS THAT LAST FOREVER. I'm not at home, so I'm not sure that's all.

Hey when's their next Daywind release coming out? It's going on a year since "It's So God."

luvsgmusic -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 3:01:17 PM)

They will be going to the studio next week to record a new project.

youngartist -> RE: Brian Free & Assurance Fan Base (1/22/2007 11:04:24 PM)

How does that work? Do they just go in and learn/sing their new material all at once, or do they practice the material first? I've actually heard of some groups just walking into a studio, learning the material, and recording it.
