Going back to the torture thing, I found this interesting, and quite reassuring as a UK resident:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7515517.stm

quote:

The British government should not rely on US assurances that it does not use torture, a report by MPs says...

The committee highlighted the technique of "water-boarding" - a practice which simulates drowning.
The US describes it as "a legal technique used in a specific set of circumstances" and President Bush has refused to ban it.

However, the UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband said it is torture and "the UK unreservedly condemns the use of torture."

In its report, the committee said: "Given the clear differences in definition, the UK can no longer rely on US assurances that it does not use torture, and we recommend that the government does not rely on such assurances in the future."

Nice to see my goverment get something like this right.

Oh I agree, the UK is far from ideal in this area.

But at least it doesn't change the rules for itself in isolation and pretend that no wrong has been done.

Now that His Majesty's second term is winding down, here's a graphic outlining (according to Slate) administration lawbreakers. The clear frontrunner is Alberto "Stretch" Gonzales. A quartet is battling for second: His Majesty, His Other Majesty, John Ashcroft and David Addington. Surprisingly, well back in the pack is Donald "Take one for the Team" Rumsfeld.

The author of this post apologiese, in advance, for the words and sentiments he is about to use because he is so fed up with posts being super critical of our legally elected appointed government officials.

Let's us get it over with and totally trash the Constitution. Then we could break up this country, and its territories, into 50+ sepearate countries. After all, we all know how wonderful the machinery of a particular political party is able to solve problems (legally and illegaly-and get away with it) a whole lot better than the other political party.

Better yet, let's just line up every one in the county and put them on trial, in the court of public opinion, who has ever held, or will ever hold, an elected office and who has tried, or will try to do their civic duty as they saw, and see it, but were, and are, contrary to arm-chair military experts and presidents, who have been, are, and will be so critical of those who disagree with their view of real life situations.

Then we can totally do away with this pesky notion that people have rights and freedoms, that may be counter to want may be seen as the most current political "popular opinion".

Thank you everyone who refuses to vote, and then complain, because your candidate wasn't in the race, or your party's candidate does not reflect each and every one of your particular views about each and every issue that faces this country.

Thank you everyone who do not choose to vote because you see it as choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Thank you every one who are more interested in blindly following a particular political party/ ideology, or even a particular entity (person) more than you are apparently concerned and discerning of what is best for all of us.

My rant is now over and will not be heard from again for some time.

I do hope that, even though I slipped and show my political preference, this rant is more directed at the political sytem that our form of government has evolved into than it is directed at anyone in particular. The trouble is our political system has not really changed much from our colonial days.

We have politicans, and media outlets on the left. We have politicians, and media oultlets on the right. We have politicans who play both sides. We have politicans who sincerly interested in what is right and proper for this country and all of us.

I am upset, angry, and tired that we are more interested in which candidate could raise the most money, who could promise the most pie in the sky future, and who could call the other side and its people the most names and keep us divided the longest without solving one single solitary problem.

Real issues face this world and this country. Can't we all grow up a little?

It was a process started in the late 1700s that has been totally perfected by now. ; )

I am kind of scratching my head though. Am I really agreeing with a long post by Leon in the Bush thread?

I'm going to blame our leaders of the last 2 or 3 decades for this. We're all spitting images of them in this regard. : /

I agree with you though.

Hey everybody, I just purchased a new book that is very much a critique of George W. Bush.

It is called The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, and it was written by Vincent Bugliosi. Bugliosi was involved in the prosecution of Charles Manson, was a District Attorney in Los Angeles, and is respected in his field, with praised books to his credit and a stellar prosecution record.

Bugliosi argues that because Bush took the United States to war against Iraq on false pretenses, that therefore Bush is guilty of tens of thousands of counts of murder.

I say hundreds of thousands. George W. Bush is a terrorist and a war criminal, and I can't wait for my copy of this book to arrive.

Unfortunately for the basis of that argument, the 500-plus tons of yellowcake was the material identified, impounded, and under UN Inspector control since the end of the '91 Gulf War. So were the other items of alleged indication of Iraq's efforts to *rebuild* its nuke program.

The mere existence of these items - known to us, out of Iraqi control, useless to their intentions if any - does not prove anything. It's like claiming that a gang-owned handgun in police impound is proof that the gang intends to use that same gun for another crime.

Your argument is a "Subverted Support (The phenomenon being explained doesn't exist) " error in rationale.

Sorry.

Everybody here already said it was Bill Clinton's fault. Or maybe they changed it to Pelosi's fault.

On a different note I found this political cartoon on Neville Bush and Russia pretty funny:

Yeah, after voting for W once in 2000, It has to be the single most Worst descision I've ever made in my life! Our country is suffering miserably with unemployment, foreclosures, over 4000 americans lost in his chess match with Iraq, the worst economy we've seen, 1/2 a million jobs lost, another 1/2 a million projected to be lost as well. Lets see, did I leave anything out? Oh yeah, single dad's like me without any form of support who struggle just to take my son to a movie, or to drive 80 miles one way to see my daughter. Yeah, Bush couldn't have been that bad of a "leader." Give me a break I love Jesus just as much as any self proclaiming Christian on here, but I find it reprehensible that Christians would rather continue the Bush failed policies, than vote for change. Mr. Prez, your days in Washington are numbered....Thank God for Elections!
Sorry you all I had to vent!

I just love the posts about "THE WORST ECONOMY EVER SEEN!" and laying the blame solely on Bush.

Average Income Rises Above ’00 Level

If you can recall, that '00 income level was after Billy Boy's tenure. Seems GW is doing alright with the economy, don't it?

the economy is probably doing just fine for you "Brother" , Praise God! Maybe I can just get another full time job to support my child. Then maybe I can see him only on the weekends and not be a part of his life. I'm sure your right, the economy is doing just fine, I guess thats why milllions of single parents like me struggle just to pay our bills. I guess the American dream isn't for us, for us it's just a fantasy!

Congratulations on taking only 6 years of a wonderous and prosperous economy to get more money than we made in 2000. I'm awfully glad that food, gas for my car, utilities stayed at the exact same level so I could actually see the difference. I mean gas was like $1.10 a gallon in 2006 right?

Oh, don't get me wrong rcamejo01, I am a single wage earner who is working two jobs just to get by also. The end of the month comes and we're lucky to have a buck or two left to rent a dvd let alone go to the movie theater. All I'm saying is that we as a country are not in a state of despair akin to the Great Depression that many politicos (many of whom are much more well off than you and I) would like us to believe.

your right my friend, but 4 more years of Bush's disasterous policies via Mcsame and we could head that way. I mean dude, do you realize we spend about 10 billion a month on Iraq? Our great grandchildren will still be paying off that debt, is that really fair to our future generations? Remember, Jesus didn't have a problem with giving to the poor. I just think that the main "hot topics" that drive "christians" against us Democrats is the whole abortion and same sex marriage ****! Man, whether Roe v. Wade ever gets overturned or not, or whether 2 males or females have the legal right to marry means nothing to me dude, My issues are the ones that matter to me as a father to my kids, the one's that ARE HERE. Will I be able to afford to pay for not just to put a roof over my kids heads or feed them at home, but like school lunches and daycare, I mean get real folks! I could care less about Roe v. Wade!

Let me ask you a question...

If the "10 billion" a month were not being spent in Iraq (and I do not mean to debate the right vs. wrong of the war), would you expect that money to be distributed to you and I somehow?

Good question, but no I am not that ignorant to think the money would be coming to you or I, or would it? We did get the "stimulus" rebate this year, boy that sure did beef up the economy! LOL, look man, if that money wasn't being wasted on Iraq I'm sure it could be spent here in OUR country, God knows our infastructure needs it.

Sio i guess you don't care what the Bible says about either of these, just so long as you get what YOU want, right?

I don't know, are you willing to get out and work for that like the rest of us do, or are you waiting on government to come in and solve all your problems for you?

quote:

We did get the "stimulus" rebate this year, boy that sure did beef up the economy!

And being a good liberal, I'm sure you sent that money right back to the government because after all, they know better how to spend it and take care of all our needs, right?

Let me tell u something "Brother" Now your getting a little personal, where is Christ in your tone? You have to know that I dont depend on the government for a dime! I'm a Federal Civil Service Employee with 9 years of combined service with active duty as well. I've never as much as collected unemployment, food stamps or Welfare! I come from a family where my single mother raised my sister and I without a dime of support from a father or the Govt.
So, don't go accusing me of being a free loader on my country which I volunteered to serve on active duty and continue to serve daily providing care for some of the bravest soldiers on the planet, Sir!
Whether I'm a liberal or a conservative is a mute point. I am a Christian and I love Jesus, if you can't handle that because of your political views, than you need to check your self first.
Not every Christian sees this life as you do. It makes me no less of a Christ loving Christian!
Having said that, I would never come down on you like you have just done to me, I don't believe for a second that God would approve of me doing so.
oh and lastly, what did I do with that stimulus check you asked? I was able to put a deposit down on an apartment closer to where I work so I didn't have to commute to work and save money on gas.
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-46060 take a gander if you care to...
