I wasn't born in Texas, but I'm getting there as soon as I can! I'm relocating to North of Fort Worth from the east coast. I was born on the west coast so it shouldn't be too bad.

adoration,

I hope you enjoy Texas. Remember it's the people who make it and not the terrain.

I just found this...I had almost forgotten I had posted here. It's kind of neat... I'm here! It took some doin' but as I type, I'm in Texas.

May the Lord make great provision for wonderful friends there.

Hi, I'm Tricia. Most people call me Trish. I was born in Stephenville, Tx. Raised near Amarillo in a little town called Borger. I've lived in Beaumont, San Antonio and Dallas. My ancestors even founded a county in Texas. So I guess you could say I'm a Texan to the core. While all of my family still live in TX, Dallas area, I'm now in Florida with my beautiful husbands and cute crazy kids. I love FL but there is no place like home. I miss it someimes.

Maybe I can join now, but just jumping in!

I will be arriving in San Antonio this next Sunday, and start my new job on Monday!

Can't wait, it sounds like a fantastic city.

Welcome!

I've been to Borger.

I don't know if you read my original post, but I'm like you -- living in another state. I enjoy where I'm living, but I miss the Texas spirit and state of mind sometimes. When Texans come here, I like to talk to them, because they speak my language. LOL!

Micah,

How great that you're moving to Texas. It will be an added benefit to the people of San Antonio!

San Antonio can be a very interesting city, and since you speak Spanish (I'm assuming you speak it ), you ought to find out all kinds of interesting things.

I was born just outside of Houston, grew up near Longview, went to college in College Station (WHOOP!), lived in Austin for five years ...

and now I'm in Massachusetts! But still a Texan.

Corruptin' those yankees.

I'm curious about something, and I hope you don't mind me asking. What color is your vehicle or vehicles?

They need it, mwa ha ha! The looks I get when I say "y'all" range from amusement to disgust, I love em both.

That's a very random question - dunno if my answer will help at all. My current car is silverish gray sandy. "Galaxy gray" to be specific. If you'd seen it - there's a way to know it was me though.

Well, they didn't make a maroon for my car :) And - I ordered it, and the first one that came in was this color, and I said "I'll take it!"

It's a color that would go nice with maroon though :)

I can't believe you've been to Borger. Nobody goes there. Nobody sane anyway. LOL I haven't been back in almost 20 yrs. I think it's the only place in TX I don't miss.

I still have my TX accent apparently, which I'm proud of. My husband's friends used to call just to hear me talk. I never understood that. I don't have an accent they do!

Wow San Antonio you should have fun. There a great mall and the Alamo and all! Learn the 410 Loop you'll need that for sure.

PolarBear, just a heads up on the loop... Gator snarls San Antonio freeway traffic. Apparently, they don't issue handguns to the SA police to take care of problems as this...

LOL, fun!

Yes I speak Spanish OK, though not fluently. It actually appeared to me to not really be necessary. Everywhere I went, I mostly heard English. However, I've only been there on two quick in/out interview trips (not counting the weekend I was there in 4th grade -- a long time ago!).

A month ago I spent a week in McAllen. To my surprise, after hearing how Spanish-saturated the Rio Grande Valley was, even there I heard mostly English.

Guess I'll give this thread a bump.

I grew up in Oklahoma, but have had family members in Texas for at least close to a half century. My closest family all wound up in Houston, and I moved back and forth between Houston and Tulsa, Ok. a couple of times. After getting married we lived a while in Arizona and California before winding up back in Houston almost 15 years ago. We're still here, in the home of the astronauts and the land of the mosquitoes. ;)

Hi, it's great so far! The job is a real blessing -- it's probably one of the best employers in the area and I get to spend all night (3rd shift) logging into all kinds of web servers as the root user (who can do absolutely *anything*).

Kind of pathetic though -- I've been here two weeks and still haven't made it to the river walk. Maybe next weekend.

Don't worry about it. In another life I lived twenty years in the Napa valley and never made it to a winery.

I also work in IT. Root access *shouldn't* be necessary to admin a web server, but the database servers that I admin are set up that way too.

Third shift can be hard on the sleep; I hope that you have some good curtains. :)

Yeah it's required. One can only edit the web server configuration file and do various troubleshooting things as root.

Sleep during the day is getting easier. Some days I don't get enough, other days I sleep a lot longer than normal because I don't have to set my alarm!

I was born in Chicago, but I got to DFW as fast as I could!

I'm currently going through the enlistment process for the Army, so it may be awhile before I can come back, but I know I will.

I love Texas. It's got this way of just crawling inside you and making its way into your blood. The people are amazing, the food is all of the comfort variety, and somehow, even with summers that Mark Twain swore would make the Devil lease Texas over Hell in the summer - it just becomes home.
