ORIGINAL: TCPRUITT Just received word thru Tony Gore's newsletter that he is opening a restaurant in Sevierville, Tn. Tony Gore's SMOKY MOUNTAIN BBQ and GRILL will be located on Hwy. 66. He is not coming off the road completely but will spend a lot of time at the restaurant. All of us Tony Gore fans know how much he likes to cook so we wish Tony the best in this new endeavor. GOOD LUCK, TONY! Good luck. I have been to that area of TN before, nice people there. I wonder if he knows Tugie?

A "TIP" from Kirk: I am not traveling until the end of the month, so I can be found at Tony's Pig Palace some nights, waiting tables. Speaking of waiting tables, honestly I have had fun. I have met some really nice people, and have had the pleasure of getting to know some great people from out of state and from the local area. Of course, the food ain't bad either! But I have learned a few things about "church" people. Basically........they are cheap when it comes to tips! A few nights ago, I started keeping up with the number of people we served, the average ticket price, and the tip amount! AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Folks, if you eat out.....be generous when you tip. Most servers make about 2 bucks an hour and work REALLY HARD for what they make. 18% of your ticket price should be the average tip. Just the other day, I had a table that ran my legs off. Their kid spilled two drinks, they wanted 8 extra rolls, (not at the same time), their fries were too crispy, Could I grill their buns?, ( OH, HOW I WAS TEMPTED TO RESPOND) on and on and on with special requests.....Their bill was over 75.00 and they left a $3.00 tip! If they hadn't already known who I was, I would have given it back to them! It's fun working there. I don't mean to complain, but if you are going to go somewhere and eat, please be generous with your tips. A note from Santa: Kirk is right. We should be genrous with our tips. I know for a fact that Kirk is a GOOD waiter. He hustles. And the others do also. This should not only be at Tony's BBQ but any restaurant that you go to. Good service deserves good tips. I know also there are times when service is not as good as we think it should be. But consider how busy the restaurant is and go from there. That's my soap bix trip for today.

I know also there are times when service is not as good as we think it should be. But consider how busy the restaurant is and go from there. That's my soap bix trip for today. AMEN!!! [rant] This is a button for me. Lousy tippers . . . Blech. Lousy Christian tippers . . . My minimum tip begins at 20% and goes up from there, depending on the service and the waitstaff. I have even left more of a tip to help compensate for those that don't tip nicely. And people . . . PLEASE DO NOT leave Gospel tracts as tips; that is so terribly insulting to the wait staff (on more than one level) and just further illustrates to not-yet believing waiters and waitresses "how insensitive and what cheapskates Christians are". I have never heard anything positive from wait people about the after-Sunday service crowds. I've heard lots of negative stuff though: too complaining, snobbish, cheap, demanding. I was at Cracker Barrel a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening. The waitress was very friendly and was doing a fantastic job. A huge crowd of people came in and her demeanor just fell. She said, "Oh great. Pompous Christians." She then went on to tell some horrible stories about how she had been treated by Christians coming in after church. My friend and I listened to her very intently. When our food came, my friend and I prayed and then went on with our meal. The waitress came back and apologized to us. She said, "Y'all are very nice; you don't act like the typical Christians that come in to eat." That made me so sad. What a horrible witness we can give to people sometimes. Being cheap, demanding and insulting isn't a good witness; at least it's not in my mind. [/rant]

When they discovered that I am a Christian (and a minister too!) their responses were less than enthusiastic. "How long has this been going on?" When I told them I'd been a Christian for almost 20 years and a minister since last year, the response was, "You don't act like a Christian!" Then it was quickly amended to, "Well you act the way a Christian is supposed to act [if they only knew...], but you don't act like the Christians we know!"

The above several posts are TRUE, TRUE, TRUE. Christians or so called Christians are very cheap when it comes to tipping. They are CHEAP when it comes to a love offering for a gospel group. They are cheap when it comes to buying tickets for a gospel group. But, when it comes to ordering off the menu and buying the meal thats a lot different. If they want to go to a country music show that is different. If you can't afford to leave a decent tip then you can't afford to eat a steak.
