Hi All! I am very new here and just found this forum. I am very happy for all of you in your efforts and responsibility to keep going with this. It is awesome to see such accountability and friendships. I too need to lose weight. I have thought about it and thought about it and have not done anything. I cannot afford to join a gym or anything or a diet food place, so will start right here at home. I am changing some habits of mine and hopefully that will help. I use sugar in my cofee all the time and have gotten sick recently so I need to go with the flow of not having it. I dont' usually eat breakfast so I will start with that and lunch and dinner. Any ideas would help and be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rock

Welcome Rock. What part of the earth are you from? One thing that is helpful is to use smaller plates and dishes. Another is to eat lots of vegetables. You can walk for exercise. One way to easily add more walking is to park at the far end of the parking lot and walk in to work or to the store. Peace, Anne

OK, it's 1:00pm and mail call was a total bust .... all ads, all went in the recycle bin. I am waiting for our federal income tax return check which is due here any day now. (According to the IRS website, it's being mailed "around March 4"). Oh well, maybe tomorrow. On a more positive note, I've ridden my bike 5 miles today, and can cheerfully report that my butt is sore! (Surely that must be a good sign, right?) My wonderful DH called the recumbant exercise bike place, and it's in, just not assembled yet. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow .... then we get to go and pick it up! We've rearranged the furniture in our family room so that the TV will now be smack-dab in the front of the recumbant bike. Hmmm.... what I REALLY need is for the tv to be powered by pedaling --- that would sure keep me exercising, huh? One more positive note .... my formerly skin-tight bike shorts? They are now pretty baggy.... how very cool is that? HARVIE (still grouchy because Mr. Scale is NOT cooperating, but it's sooooo nice outside.)

My sister had to wait a long time for her check! I could not believe it. Especially since I did her taxes on the 1st of Feb. She did not get the check for 4 weeks.

When I worked with a personal trainer, I loved it. The hard part for me was you have to be at the gym at a certain time, and my work schedule it is hard. So I would get there and end up at the gym for a long time on that day or end up missing part of it. I don't do well with time. But when I met with him I told him that i could do this much weights with this many reps, and he showed me how to slow down and do more reps. My arms hurt so bad! Well another weigh in. I am down 1.8!!!! This is a great week! :) I am so close to my goal (only 7.6 lbs to hit my goal!). I am getting bored with my diet, as it seems I have been eating the same foods for the past 3 months. I have had a couple free days, and I have a couple more coming up. Easter & a day trip I am going on. So that gives me something to look forward to. I am also helping my family move in the next couple of weeks. This is going to be hard, as we will end up eating out on the days we are moving because it is easy since the food is packed. So I am not sure how I am going to handle that. I am going to need to plan very well though. A non-scale victory though. I have been on the border for pant sizes for a while now. But in the past week I have really shrunk, and I am in the next size down. Yeah!

Hmmmm.... this isn't really what I expected with the whole start-going-to-a-personal-trainer-thing. ; Anyway, about 40 minutes into things, I started having nausea, chest pains, turned really pale, got really clammy, and broke into a cold sweat. (And my blood sugar was fine.... I tested. Drat.) Soooooo..... to make a long story short, I ended up getting an EKG with my doctor informing me I was having irregular heartbeats and can't do ANYTHING more physical than walking until next week (Tuesday) -- which is the earliest he could schedule me for a cardiac stress treadmill test without admitting me to the hospital. That means no treadmill at home, no riding my bike around the neighborhood, no hand weights, and no recumbant bike .... and to head straight for the Emergency Room if the symptoms return. (This is my primary care physician, by the way, who did say that I looked fabulous with my weight loss.) (sigh) This isn't going as I planned.

Bummer. But you can walk. :) And this is the best way to find things out. Before something horrible happens.

Good for you, Harvie! You're almost catching up to me, with 93 1/2 lbs lost (or 108 if I go back to my heaviest weight, which was 315 lbs!) Here's a little joke I've found to brighten everyone's day: New Diet Jan is terribly overweight, so the doctor hands over a sheet of paper with a diet on it. "I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds. When Jan returns, The doctor's amazed to see a loss of nearly 20 pounds. "Why, that's amazing!" the doctor says. "Did you follow my instructions?" Jan nods, "I'll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day." "From hunger, you mean?" asked the doctor. "No, from skipping."

I am down again this week. -1.6!!! I have 6 lbs left to go to hit my goal. Yeah! I did my measurements and they were not down like I thought they would be. My clothes don't fit at all, so I thought I would be down quite a bit. I am sick and I don't know how my diet will work while I am sick. I live on carbs when I am sick and I am doing a low carb diet. Ugh!

I successfully survived my alpine trek to the Himalayans this morning at the doctor's office .... ok, that's what my cardiac stress treadmill test was like. And can I say that it's more than just mildly distracting to be huffing and puffing on a treadmill SET AN AN INCLINE OF 12 with a heart rate monitor-thingy duct-taped to my stomach and various dangling, ticklish electrode thingies stuck all over my chest? The doctor rather diabolically chuckled as he said, "we'll just go until you are tired." Heck, I was tired just stepping ONTO the treadmill weighted down with 20 pounds of electronic gear, some of which was perilously close to rather sensitive parts of my anatomy. After taking a moment to explain all the various and assorted sundry life-threatening and dangerous symptoms I MIGHT expect, he then commented (sounding surprised) that my heart rate had ALREADY climbed .... and he hadn't turned the treadmill on yet. I rather wondered if he could just let me sit in a recliner and he could stress me out by commenting on the national election, allowing me to just skip my scheduled mountain goat training ... but, alas, that was not to be. And why did he keep wanting me to chat while fiendishly SPEEDING UP the gosh-darned treadmill? Hmmm.... my biggest question is ... how the heck do I log THAT for the day? The GOOD NEWS for today is that I successfully passed my cardiac treadmill stress test without keeling over and flopping on the floor in the doctor's office. It wasn't so much the speed of the treadmill, but the incline of 12 degrees definitely made my legs WORK for each step.... yowzer! By the time I was done (and panting!) my blood pressure was still only 140/80 ... yay! (It started at 122/80!) Anyway, my doc has cleared me to return to my normal at-home regimen of "reasonable" recreational neighborhood biking, "reasonable" neighborhood walking and moderate treadmilling, and using my recumbant bike in moderation ... but he has formally and officially vetoed the over-priced personal trainer.... for another 30 pounds, then he will re-evaluate me. (He kept using the words "moderation" and "reasonable" and "be careful" .... so I guess I can take a hint)

If she paid through a gym usually there aren't refunds given. I don't know why the thirty pounds makes a difference though, trainers are supposed to help people of all weights and abilities.

Hi. I need some help with my diet. I am with in the calories I should have but the things I'm eating seem to mostly starches. Breakfast: Weight Watchers Oatmeal 160 Calories, Turkey Keilbasa Sausage 50 Calories Snack: Kellogs Cereal(snack on 1 to 1/2 cup) and sometimes banana Sandwich: Whole Wheat honey 40 calorie bread 2 slices. Turkey and cheese, 1 tablespoon mayo. Snack: 80 calorie bran muffin and sometimes a small apple Dinner: Vegetable, meat, brown rice Am I eating too many things that turn in sugar through the day? I see now that I'm losing. I've lost 10lbs and inches also. But it just seems this is too much sugar with the things I'm eating. I need suggestions of things I can add and take away. THanks
