I want to encourage everyone to keep trying to get some excercise in even during the holidays. It is such a great stress reliever and it does make you feel better. At least it does for me!

Merry Christmas ladies, and Happy New Year!

Hello,
Glad that I found this thread. I had WLS (Gastric Bypass) in July, I have lost 55 pounds since surgery and 98 pounds total. Holidays have been hard. There is always cookies or candy around.

As an obese person, rewards have always been focused on food or going out for a 'treat'. I have started to look for different rewards. I bought myself some diamond earrings, but decided that I could not have them until I have lost 125 pounds.

Right after I bought my earrings I took them to my aunt's house for her to keep for me. I did not want to be tempted to wear them.

I do watch what I am eating and am trying to make a concentrated effort on cutting the carbs and getting all my protein in. I also have to make a concentrated effort on drinking all of my water. I get exhausted when I don't get all my water.

As for excercising I do have a membership to the gym, this last month has been really hard to get to the gym. I do enjoy excersing. I do 20-30 min on the bike and somedays also do strength training.

So that is my story. I am working hard at loosing weight and have about another 80 pounds to go.

Hi Ladies! May I join you. Over the festivities I'm going to try and be fairly good, but I'm going to enjoy them too - and then, if I may, I'll join up properly in January. I'm looking forward to renewing my health kick - I've dropped over 25 lbs this year, and am hoping to drop 20 in 2007, then a final fifteen in 2008. It won't make me super-skinny, but with my boobs and hips I would look plain odd if I dropped too much!

At the start of '06 my BMI was 35, it's now 30.5, by this time next year I'd like it to be 27.5, and my final target (ideally, summer '08) is 25. Slow and steady are my watchwords!

linaire- we'll be glad to have you!
barb- Good for you. I think a jewel reward is perfect for a TREAT after all you've been through and are going through.

I'm going to my first weight watchers meeting today. I'm excited and nervous. Last night was a bad night for me. I ended up having seconds after dinner. What makes it worse is that I waited until my husband left for work so he wouldn't harass me about counting the points. I'm going to have to suck it up and add them anyway. **head down, with tail between the legs** It wasn't horrible food that I had. Chili w/ lean beef and some rice, which isn't worth a lot of points on Weight Watchers. It's the sneaking that is bothering me. Why do I feel ashamed of being hungry? Was I really hungry? Couldn't I have just had a salad which would have been free of points?

<= Very angry at herself today.

Good mornign ladies. I hope you all had a good Christmas. My weekend was good. Unfortunately, eventhoug I have been exercising this past week, I still gained 2 pounds. However, even if the scale does not reflect it, I do notice a difference in how I feel. My face/neck area is looking trimmer and my legs are trimming up. The big work area will be my abd, butocks, and thighs.

Anyway, I did get some exercise in this weekend. I was at my MIL and we took the kids to the park on Sat. While the kids played, I walked around the park and did 2 miles. It felt soooo good.

I did eat quite a bit this weekend, but I just couldn't help it! THe food was soooo yummy!. So, back on the ol' horse today. I will be going back to the gym today and on Thursday. Those are the only days that they are open late.

I will have another three day weekend, so I will try to squeeze in some work out time over the weekend as well.

Well, like it or not, I need to join this thread. I'm overweight and I know it, I've just never done much about it. So... just posting and saying that I need to lose weight is a step. Maybe if other people know I'm trying to lose weight, I'll be more motivated .

I'm trying to talk my husband into losing weight with me. I think that would make things a lot easier.

Goal: lose 20 lbs and be healthier (overall)

I am so proud of myself. I had the biggest craving for chinese food yesterday. My husband said we could get some, but he told me that I have to have something with veggies in it. So instead of getting the usual General Tsao chicken, I got chicken and broccoli. Plus instead of eating it out of the to go box (which we usually do) I grabbed one of our small plates that we use for the kids and had only one serving. When I was done, I was satisfyed, not stuffed like I usually am. I am so proud of myself!!

Plus I had a rockin work out yesterday so that made me feel really good too!

I'm proud of you too, Nicole!

Chineese food take-out portions are so huge! My two boys (they may be toddlers but they can eat) and I can share one combo. That's my strategy to not eating it all myself, sharing with my boys.

I won't talk about my holiday eating and exercising. It wasn't bad, but not greatly remarkable either. I maintained my weight, and for that I'm happy.

I am looking forward to the new year when things will start settling back down to normal and I can resume my usual schedule. Until then, exercise time will be slim to none. I want to get back to the treadmill and the eliptical (that is my bestest friend...it feels really good to get into a good rhythm on one of those).

I started going to a site that I pay for (9.00 a month) called Myfooddiary.com. I have lost 8 pounds since I started two months ago and I just absolutely love it. The site provides support (the forums), and a daily diary (thus the name of the site) where you can log your food and exercise. It calculates the calories and nutrition. My goal is to loose a total of 30 pounds because that is where I was before I had my two kids so I only have 22 pounds to go. Anyone else ever visit this site? If you haven't I highly recommend it.

May I join?

I have been losing weight slowly over the last couple months -- since I learned I have diabetes. Up to then, I ate whatever I wanted, along with sugary drinks, but mostly, I would skip meals and just have the sugary drinks: that's what got me in trouble.

I always thought I ate like a pig, but it was the drinks that kept me obese. At the beginning of the diabetes, I kept a diary of what I ate as I ate what I usually did, just without the sugar. The nurse called me and told me I was on a "starvation diet" and to increase my food. I had no clue! This just shows what the sugary drinks have done to me!

I am not dieting, but I have dropped the sugar. So far, I have lost about 15 pounds. However, I have not taken the time to exercise. I don't have time. By the time I get home from work, I am exhausted. What I would like to do is start walking rather than exercising, but there is a little exercise club not far from my home that I am considering.

Well I have lost 2 lbs since last week Sunday. Now, this could be water weight, but to me weight is weight. I found a new way to squeeze in some exercise if the gym is not open late. I decided to do some stairs here at work. Since this is a big hospital with 11 floors, I went to the 6th floor. Plus when I park, I park on the 6th floor and instead of taking the elevator, I take the stairs.

I tried to donate platelets yesterday but unfortunately my iron was too low so we rescheduled for next week. So until then I will be drinking orange juice every day (their recommendation) and eating foods with iron. Hopefully it will work. I am a huge believer in blood donation and this is something a little extra I can do for the community!!

My friend is battleing leukemia; platelette donors literally have saved his life. He received a bone marrow transplant a couple of months ago and is responding well but he would not have lived long enough to have it without the platelette donors. So, thank you for doing that.

Anyway, back to topic!

I finally asked my neighbor if I could walk on his wife's treadmill in the mornings once he leaves to drive the morning carpool. (His wife passed away last month.) He said that he would rather me walk on it than it collect dust. He also said he would put a small tv in there for me. So, I will start walking on the treadmill Monday morning. I plan to walk a minimum 1/2 hour then run home and shower before I have to head to work.

I have been watching what I eat and trying very hard to resist sugar. I told my kids that we are all going to cut way back on sugar next week. I have to be careful though because last time I lost weight so did my kids and they are small to begin with.

Aww, that was very nice of him.

Good for you on cutting back on the sugar. My hubby is a chef, and he has been "experimenting" on us with different dishes for his new restraunt. Well, last night he made three HUGE almost new york style pizzas. One was pepperoni, one was italian sausage, and the other was a bbq chicken. I looked at him and I said, "You sure don't help with the diet" and all he did was laugh. grrr..... and I LOVE HIS PIZZAS!!!! But I had to try them all, so I had one of each (they are like thin crust so there is not much bread to them)

I used to work at a blood bank and was a faithful donator. I had to cut out all teas for 10 days before donating, because i had a similar problem.

I haven't been back here in a few days... Sorry I disappeared. I went to my first WW meeting on Saturday. Compared to what I weighed in the office before I started, I've lost 3 lbs to date. I've been seeing a physical therapist for my back and making sure I'm getting at LEAST 6 servings of water a day if not more. I bought a Gazelle a few days ago. I used it last night for ten minutes and then my back started hurting, so I stopped but could've gone longer if I didn't have the pain. It's a lot more than I have been doing so YAY for me. I had a big lunch today but I stuffed myself w/ green beans and salad which are both free foods for me. I also found an ice cream bar that is fat and sugar free so it is a free food too. It's more natural this time, so I'm encouraged that it's easier so far. Plus I haven't totally deprived myself of anything either. I just eat 1/2 cookie instead of 4. Things like that. I give myself what I want I'm just giving myself more of what I need and moderating what I want. I think that was a run on sentence. Anyway, here I go for the day. See you all later. You've all been so supportive to me just being here and talking about your struggles and successes too! Thanks. God Bless.

You could try doing the 10 minutes a couple of times a day, until you can build up to a longer workout. This thread just reminded me to get off the computer and do a bit of exercise! I am going to do a video then I will be back.

Hello Ladies,

I have not been excercising much lately and can really tell. I am so tired and busy. I know that those are excuses and dont meen squat. I need to get off my butt and excercise.

I read that someone mentioned water. WATER is VERY, VERY, VERY important. Right after surgery, I was only getting about 45-50 ounces of water a day and it was making me exhausted. There were days that I felt like I was going to fall asleep on my way home from work. When I called the director of the program she asked me about water intake and she told me that I absoulutely needed to get my 64 ounces in a day.

I am not saying that I get that every day, but I do try.

Are you ladies taking multi vitamins. Even 1 a day will help with energy.

My prayers are with you on this journey. Because I am on this rocky/bumpy sometimes not so fun journey with you all.

Last night after dinner I kept wanting something more. I wasn't hungry, I just wanted something. I finally decided that I would fix myself a 16 ounce hot herbal tea. It was so good and it made me feel all cozy curled up on the couch. I think I'll do that tonight and bring my quilt into the living room because that'll make it feel even cozier.

Yes I take a multi vit as well as Calcium. I wonder if there is something that can be taken for metabolism and increase energy for a work out.

I did it! I worked out for 45 minutes using videos. The videos are kind of funny, they came with the McDonald's salads last summer. They are a series of 4 15 minute workouts and they are computer animated. I have all 4 but I hated the yoga one. If anyone wants it pm me, I'll send it to you. Anyway, the other 3 are strength, cardio and core: they were good and not too easy in the "take it easy on me" mode. The computer generated lady straightens her clothes and fixes her hair etc during the workout which I found really really funny!

Am really having a hard time remembering to drink enough water during the day.
