I will watch Liddell - Jackson (I predict: Chuck Liddell wins by 3rd round TKO).

Also, there is alot of hype in our state for the Frank Shamrock-Phil Baroni fight that MAY happen on June 22nd.

But I am more interested in UFC 71...

Well Jackson showed that his first win against Liddell wasn't a fluke. He did a great job and showed he deserves to be the champ.

Any thoughts about the up coming Brock Lesnar fight. I am definitely curious to see if he has what it takes to be a MMA fighter. He proved he could do it in the WWE, but PRIDE is much different. I wish him luck.

Quintin "RAMPAGE" Jackson is phenomenal. He has some very good trainers It proves that no one is invincible in the UFC...

I had never heard of Houston Alexander, until he destroyed Keith Jardine. Jardine was angry that he had to fight Alexander, instead of a higher ranked light heavyweight.

Congrats to Rampage. He was one of the first fighters I watched when I first starting keeping up with MMA some years ago.
As for Baroni and Frank Shamrock, I'll pick Frank. The last two times I saw Baroni he was too much of a stand up fighter. One dimensional I mean. He may get to frank early but I'll take the "ole timer".

I'm picking Matt Hughes over Serra and Dan Henderson over Rampage.

Anybody think Rich Franklin will regain his middleweight title?

I haven't seen Dan Henderson fight so I really don't know much about him.

As for the Hughes/Serra fight I would have to agree with you. I do think Hughes is losing some of his will to fight, but I don't think he will have much trouble defeating Serra.

Franklin will regain his title. In my opinion Franklin was way to overconfident in his first fight with Silva and would have done much better if he went in with his own game plan. Instead he tried to beat Silva standing toe to toe with him and got schooled. I really don't see that happening in their next meeting which is why I am picking Franklin.

I watched Dan Henderson in Pride FC, he is phenomenal. But I won't underestimate Rampage again...

Franklin will get his title back; Hughes should beat Serra, given his experience...

yup.

I watch it every chance I get. Chuck exudes a confidence that is obviously not arrogance (saw an interview) and I admire that.

When I think about spiritual warefare I think of this type of martial art (including grappling, college and olympic wrestling) because Paul describes it that way. Apparently he had watched Greco/Roman wrestling and used it as an illustration.

This is my first post on this forum. I wish I had checked it out sooner.

Welcome TIL! Glad you found the forum...

Matt Hughes, Rashad Evans, Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell were collegiate wrestlers. I think Karo Parysian has a black belt in Judo.

Rich Franklin's website has this passage:

Psalm 144:1 - Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.

Did any of you watch the Ultimate Fighter finale?? I wasn't surprised that BJ Penn won, but was disappointed as I was hoping Jens could pull out a win. I think Penn should stick to that weight class instead of going back up to 170. Conditioning is always his biggest setback and he looked great at 155.

It was too bad about Manny and his shoulder too. He was definitely winning, but now Nate gets the contract by default. Oh well.

My pics for 73:

Silva
Sherk
Evans (I can't stand Tito, so I'm really hoping Rashad wins)
Bonner
Fickett

Not as sure about the last two.

Yep, he seems to tire about the 3rd and 4th rds. He should stay at 155.
Although Sherk is a good champ.
I am picking Hughes over Serra but I do agree Matt seems to be losing a little of his edge, and Serra is no spring chicken. But, hey in professional athletics anything over 32 is an "older" athlete. Many like Chuck liddel and Cotoure hang in there till 35,40 as in Coture's case. But for the most part 32 to 34 is their last run.

Didn't get to see the finale, but I thought Penn would pull it out.

I agree with your first three picks, but I do think Evans is going to have a very difficult time beating Ortiz. It will be interesting to see how Bonner looks because he may be a little rusty.

Has anybody seen Mauricio Rua fight? I have watched a few of his fights on youtube and he looks like he could be a threat for the UFC title. He KO'd Jackson in their first fight and probably would like a shot at doing it again.

Ok I don't know if this has been addressed, but... why do you think it is wrong? It is a sport, it is trained professionals doing unarmed combat in a very controlled setting.

God wrestled with Israel, and wrestling back then was typically in the nude and quite brutal so I fail to see how UFC is any worse.

Actually, only Greek boxing/wrestling was in the nude. It doesn't apply to Jacob. And the early Christians writers were all against gladiatorial games, boxing, wrestling, and other violent sports.

As others have been told in the past, there is a thread in the morality/ethics section where this can be debated.

Look for St. Pierre to beat Chris Koschek. (I hope anyway).
Don't forget next month Randy Couture vs Gorilla Gonzaga.
This may a very difficult fight for Randy. Gonzaga is big and is a very good grappler.

I agree I think St. Pierre will beat Koschek, but I don't think it will be an easy victory.

I do think Randy will pull it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gonzaga knocked him out. He definitely showed his power against Cro Cop.

Looks like Liddell will be fighting Jardine in UFC 76. I am anxious to see how Liddell looks after his loss to Rampage.

The fight I really am interested in seeing is the Mauricio "Shogun" Rua/Forrest Griffin fight. This will be Rua's debut in the UFC and I am very anxious to see how he looks. He knocked out Rampage when they fought so he is probably going to be a contender for the light heavyweight belt.

I'll certainly be pulling for Randy, but I wont forget Gonzaga is a world champion jujitsu practioner.
I usually pull for the old guys. Not always but usually. probably because I are One. Sooner or later they gotta hang it up.

I like it all. UFC, K-1, IFL, etc.

One thing I find interesting is the number of professing Christians that are MMA fighters. I can see that God shows no favoritism when it comes to fighting. I watched someone beat someone bloody to where the guy didn't want to continue. After the fight the winner thanked his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A couple of fights later a fighter confessed Jesus during the pre-fight taped interview. He ended up getting choked out in about 30 seconds of the first round.

I agree there seems to be alot of Christians in MMA.
So they like to fight. Great! It's a sport and it's hard work.

Wow! What a performance by Randy Cotoure against Gabriel Gonzaga! The 44 year old champ is amazing. Still in great shape and showing he is still coachable, able to learn new techniques for the game. A true competitor.
St. Pierre truly dominated Chris Koscheck. A good night for the UFC.

I totally forgot that was on last night!!!

From what I have read it sounds like Couture completely dominated him. Good for him. Can you say Fedor? I would totally love to see that fight, but we will just have to wait and see.

Sounds like the Pierre/Koschek fight was a good one. I was sort of pulling for Koschek, but I didn't mind that Pierre won I gained a lot of respect for him after his Penn fight. Hopefully after Hughes beats Serra he will get another title shot. I would like to see another Pierre/Hughes fight.

OHHHH MAN! That was such an AWESOME FIGHT! I haven't seen that much blood in a long time. Gunzaga took a good cut on the bridge of his nose, then had it broken. Couture DOMINATED HIM! Gunzaga put up one heck of a fight though and Herb Dean is a moron.

WOOT! GO ST.PIERRE! He completely put Koscheck in his place. GSP dominated the whole fight and even beat Josh at his own game of wrestling. What a great UFC.
