I'm so sorry to hear about your mom falling. My mother falls a lot. But so far; has never even broken a bone! And yes, it keeps you concerned for them. May God help your family find the right solution in keeping your mother safe. Zondie, I'll be praying for your situation as well. Thanks for your prayers quote:
I'm heart-broken about Little Bit. May God's will be done in the sunset of it's life. Thanks again Zondie. All of you have been so kind to me over that little dog. I appreciate your kindness and tolerance as I go through the illness of a dog when there are so many people to pray for! You truely are good friends quote:
It's good that you have some things to hold ransom for the return of what was stolen. Amen! And I intend to talk to my brother about the Med-Alert thing. He has his own tax firm and is up to his ears in work until the 15th. After that, he can take a breath and maybe we can get something done.

On a more serious note: My sister called and her husband has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Don't know many details just yet, but any prayers are appreciated. Thanks.

{{{{{{{{ZONDIE}}}}}}}}}} {{{{{{{{PENGIE}}}}}}}}}}} You both sound like you need that this morning. Zondie, I do suffer with allergies some, but not nearly what you're describing. As for the mammogram, I've not had one in years. They are very expensive, and I have no insurance, so I do self exams. We have hardly any history of cancer in our family, or did until just a few short years ago. My sister had to have a lumpectomy. I think a lot of her health problems, tho, have been related to her being a heavy drinker & smoker, and in general just not taking good care of her body --- and a lot of stress that was partly due to the above, and partly the cause of some of the above. She's had a rough life. She's doing ok now, tho. Anyway, I really should look into getting a mammogram done, but the last I checked, there were just no breaks for someone with our income and no insurance. We seem to be in the no-man's land of not being able to afford the insurance, but not quite poor enough for assistance Pengie, Happy Birthday to your hubby. I hope he likes his gifts. And I'll be praying for your sister & bil. My sil & bil continue to need your prayers. They went this week for a consultation with the bone marrow transplant team. Seems they are wanting them to do that whole thing right away rather than harvesting his stem cells, and treating/freezing them for a later date -- something to do with what Medicare is willing to pay for. It's thrown them both for a loop -- I think simply bringing things closer to home for them in that they were looking at this particular treatment as a last stop measure AFTER he had enjoyed a few more good years on just the medications. Also, this whole process will make Jim very, very ill and probably require a long hospital stay. Again, with only Medicare and no supplemental (he forgot to sign up in December ), it will also get to be quite expensive. They've been blessed by getting on a 'free drug' program sponsored by the drug company for his most expensive meds, and that's been helpful, tho. I've been to the gym already this morning, and I'm so glad I went & got that out of the way right off the bat. Now I'm showered dressed, and enjoyign a cuppa McD's coffee -- love their coffee!! . . . Garrett is here, and has already played me a tune or two on the piano. Now he's watching The Backyardigans

Happy Birthday, Mr. Pengie! Linda, you really should get a mammogram, even if it was only once every two or three years. I really don't want to hear that you got breast cancer and found it too late because of no mammogram.

And I'm told that they do so many (here), that your name is put on a waiting list. But it's worth waiting for a few weeks to be assured of good health; right? Pengie, my aunt had to have her bladder removed last year because of cancer. Until then, I hadn't heard of anyone getting cancer in their bladder! I will be praying for your bil.

Yes, I do, Maggie. I also need a pap smear, and all that other good stuff. Unfortunately, they don't give that stuff away free around here. And I don't exactly have a few hundred dollars sitting around begging to be spent. I will, tho, look into some of the women's health care services whereby I might be able to get a discount.

Zondi, I checked with the health dept . . . you have to be practically poverty level. We're not. But there's a wide, wide margin between poverty and being able to afford all these medical exams.

Yeah, tell me about it! And I think that's a shame in America! The doctors all tell us to have these tests done annually, but never take in the factor of afford-ability! I'm in the same boat as you are. When my hubby retires (which will probably be within the next 2 years), I'll not have any insurance either! That scares me. Cause one never knows when something 'serious' could happen. And when it's serious it usually means EXPENSIVE! The U.S. needs to make an adjustment in the medical field; that will help make medical attention available to ALL citizens. I've seen people suffer some terrible diseases (around here), just because they didn't have insurance and couldn't afford the treatment or meds. they needed! Even with my 80% coverage, some tests or exams are still to high for me to afford. (Hope I never have to have any of them!)

In Canada, most health care is paid for with our taxes. Yes, we have much higher taxes than in the US but ALL of our citizens can go to the doctor or the hospital at any time without worrying about how much it will cost. I know Americans who come to Canada and say that our system is much worse because we often have long waits for certain tests and/or procedures and that is a problem but it's not a system problem but a lack of doctors problem. One friend in particular argues that only 30% of Americans don't have access to medical care but in my mind that's a lot for a country like the US that prides itself on its strength, power and compassion. Those who have access to the right insurance don't realize how impossible it is for those who don't and maybe they don't even care a whole lot. After all, it's not them. Americans may be against socialization but when it comes to health care it only makes sense to level the playing field for everyone and not just the priviledged majority. Maggie gets down off her soapbox.

I have a dear friend who lives in Germany, and she says it's that way in her country too. That's how it should be everywhere, IMHO. A person shouldn't have to worry about whether to pay an electric bill (this month) or go to the doctor!

I guess I think it's a trade off, no matter which way it's done. Maybe the expense of medical care would be kept in better control if the government were paying it all, but if you pay higher taxes for the privilege of that care isn't it the same, in the end as paying insurance? I mean, I really don't need a lot of medical care. I know there are these tests that everyone thinks I should be having, and I guess I should, but other than that, I have never been one to run to the doctor everytime I got sick. I don't know how much these tests would cost, but even if they were -- say $800 total -- lab fees, doctor, etc. -- and if I needed them every year (and I know I don't) . . figuring that cost each for the pap smear and the mammogram, that would only run me $1600 a year. I couldn't even buy 6 months worth of insurance for that. So insurance simply wouldn't pay off for me. Now, I know I'm not considering the big picture, or the 'what ifs', but I also know that if those 'what ifs' hit us at this time of our life, they could be just about as devastating with insurance as without. Bill has decent insurance and it still took us 3 years to pay off our part of his hospital bill for the surgery 4 years ago.

I say, Thank God for medical ins. I just got home from the hospital myself yesterday. Wed evening I found myself in so much pain that I went to the ER. They put me on an IV for pain meds and ran tests and a cat scan and found a new tumor in my head. I have a prescription for a morphine type pain pill and an apt with my DR on Wed. One set of blood tests alone cost $1000 without ins. This is why I am stuck staying with my husband.

{{{{{{{{{PENGIE}}}}}}}}}} . . . I'm so very sorry to hear you've been in so much pain again. Please know I'll be praying. Yes, in your case, it is good that you have insurance. And with your medical problems, one sure would go to great lengths to keep insurance. However, you would be on disability -- would have been long ago, had you not had insurance. I am probably talking out of my realm, but I would think this is a possibility you might want to consider given the circumstances. Around here, ppl who are on disability get just as good -- maybe better care than those on paid insurance plans. In fact, insurance companies have gotten so 'controlling' with people's med plans that many times those on government assistance and/or disability DO get better care. There are some things that fall thru the cracks, as in the case of my bil and the stem cell procedure, but overall his insurance under Medicare is just as good as my husband's.

Leah, it's good that you've been blessed with good health. However, without those tests, by the time symptoms show somethiing is wrong, it could be too late to fix the problem; or more difficult. ((((pengie))))

Yeah, Marsha, I do realize that. But I feel helpless to do anything about it, so I simply just trust God to take care of it. Thanks for stopping by, btw -- and I like your new avatar. Hi Zondie! Hi Maggie!
