ORIGINAL: CountryPreacher Does anyone know if Archie Watkins is back to singing full time, or is the problem he has been having still continuing. I know that they had brought on someone to sing part time for him and that he wouldn't be able to sing but some at the Singing In The Smokies. It would certainly be a great loss if he were to be unable to make a complete return. I believe he had corrective surgery and was doing much better, but something may have changed after that.

You know, their website has not mentioned anything about Archie's acid reflux condition...this is the first time I've head anything about it, to be honest. Yeah, I've been on hiatus for most of the spring and summer...work eats up most of my time....good to see the thread is still going!

Inspirations were at World Premier last week making a video. Archie was there. He sang 3 or 4 songs with the group. They still have someone singing tenor for him. From all indications that will probably be that way for some time. Archie & The Bear Hunter will be with the group and sing 2 or 3 songs. They sounded great as always.

I have thougt it kind of odd that the web site has been silent about it even though they brought someone on part time to fill in for Archie Watkins. However, I do note that Ron Hutchins usually keeps the web site on a positive note. Good to have you (InspirationsNut) back by the way. I do understand what work can do to your time. Hopefully we will here from you more often now.

Who has been singing in Archie's stead?

Hate to bump this old thread, but just picked up the new CD "Things are Different Now", and it is very good. The best song in my opinion is "It's Different Now" which is beautiful, but the CD is filled with great songs.

I've heard portions of this project, but haven't gotten it yet. What I've heard of it was good. I am looking forward to getting it too. The over-all sound seems better than the last few projects that they have put out. Not that they were bad at all, I just like this one better. quote:

I will be hearing The Inspirations and McKameys Friday night in Supply NC. This is an annual event the first Friday night in each new year, this has been going on for many years now, sponsored by a local group that have been friends with The Inspirations a long time!

I just saw the news release on Singing News that The Inspirations have added a new vocallist to their line-up. Does anyone else have anything that could enlighten us some on this??

I haven't seen the SN news article but it is probably a tenor vocalist. They were here last week and Archie only sung two or three songs. I think he is going to do the Jack Laws thing. BTW Jack was not even with them.

It was Darren Osbourne as utility vocalist. But I have this feeling that most of the time, he'll be singing tenor.

He's filled in for Archie during the period Archie was out with his vocal problems. He's been traveling with them a lot helping out.

ORIGINAL: InspirationsNut I guess my favorite Inspirations song from the early 80s would have to be "It Wasn't the Nails That Held Him There." It featured Jack Laws in some of his smoothest baritone singing ever! They re-did the song on their The Sooner, The Better album in 2000, but I think I like the original recording best. I have been out of commission for several weeks--months, even! I have been exceptionally busy with work, which inevitably led to my back surgery this past week. I'm off work for three-ish weeks while my back heals, so I thought I'd pop in to see whatever became of this thread. Just wanted to let everyone know that I was extremely fortunate to find some old, old LPs on Ebay a couple weeks ago: I was able to acquire OUR PIONEER HERITAGE, COOL WATER, JUST AS LONG AS ETERNITY ROLLS, FROM THE HEART OF THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS, and a couple others. I now lack two recordings having a complete set of The Inspirations' works, those being THROUGH THE GATES with RALPH SEXTON, and COUNTRY CHRISTMAS. Please pray for me as I recover from this surgery. I had to have part of a herniated disc cut out at L5-S1, and, while I feel better, the site of incision is itching like crazy!

I ment to reply to this earlier, however, work is keeping me very busy right now. Sorry to hear about the suregery, trust the healing process is going well and things are getting better for you. I think I'm a little jealous about the albums. Good find! I saw a copy of "Country Christmas" available on Ebay in Nov. However, I also found out that it is a compilation LP. The Inspirations only have one or two songs on the entire project, so I have not been pushing to obtain it. Otherwise, I believe I need about 5 more to complete my collection. It is sure a lot of great music that you have there, good listening. quote:

I have been an Inspirations fan most all my life. Every member of the group has been special and sounded wonderful together. I have enjoyed most all of there songs because they sing songswith a great message and do it their way and with feeling that comes through. My two favorite songs are Still the Blood and Sweet Beulah Land. I wish they would re-record Sweet Beulah Land on CD. A great song sang by alot of groups but the way they do it and sound touches me every time. I have heard them live and video and tape sing those songs and it is always powerful. I would love to get it on CD now that most everything is played on CD or digital.

Welcome to the forum. Just a thought, the song It's Still the Blood is available on the cd Southern Gospel Treasury Series of the Inspirations. Sweet Beulah Land is on the Inspirations Collection. A double cd of many of the Canaan recordings. Both are probably only to be found on the secondary market. ie ebay, etc. quote:

I have recently posted a few items on Ebay. One of the albums is "Country Christmas" on the Canaan label.
