Their first nine albums were re-released into three cassette packages a few years back. Good luck finding them, EBay doesn't turn up much anymore. I'm missing a couple of them from the early 80's and I have them all as well.
Other than eBay and yard sales, is there another great hidden place to find old albums? I'd settle for 8-tracks if I have to. Computers can do magical things to "older" media.

Yes, i remember when they were offering those cassettes for sale, but i always put it on the back burner and never got them. Just one of those things i let slip by. I'm sure they are quite good.

They are good...I think that they used vinyl for the source, though, because the first set still has the pops and cracks like from an LP.
I love those tapes because you can really see the maturation of the group from [literally] high school students to men. Archie's voice change from the beginning is most remarkable.
My goal, however, is to get them all on vinyl.

I haven't done it yet, but I believe it is possible for the technically proficient to program the ebay website to send them automatical email notifications of new Inspirations listings.

It's really easy. If you're signed in, when you do a search, in the upper right corner it gives you the option to add to "My Favorite Searches". You can then go through the preferences in "My Ebay".
I get my favorite groups sent to me almost daily. The real fun with the Inspirations is that I get every album, CD, and cassette that has the word "Inspirations" in the title or description. I get everything from the group I want to Doo-Wop groups of the 60's. If only I could get my computer to read my mind...

What you can do to modify your search is tell it to search for "Inspirations -sweet -rock -trash", using the hyphen before keywords found in (a) none of the albums you want and (b) some of the albums you don't want.

I just went to eBay to try out the nifty-keen search shortcuts offered by Danielmount (BTW, thanks!), and I found something interesting...click HERE to see it!
For those of you who remember the 12th Anniversary album by The Inspirations, you'll remember that a few times on it Martin Cook referred to Archie Watkins as "Sister Archie." Well, from the looks of this album...

On the Live in Alaska video Eddie Deitz mentions someone who had heard that introduction and for years really did believe that Archie Watkins was a she.

As an aside, do any of you have, or have you heard, Mike Holcomb's solo projects? I know he has a couple of CDs, but I have yet to hear them, much less purchase them.
I did buy one of Troy Burns' solo albums a few years back...it was okay, but not really Inspirations caliber, IMHO.

I agree, Martin Cook is so much a part of the experience of an Inspirations concert. I love when he gets excited. It's hard to think of the group without him.

This is a little off the wall, but have you ever thought about the few men that are no longer with the Inspirations. You could still put together a good quartet. Marlin Shubert for the bass. Eddie Deitz as baritone, one of the best. either Ron Hutchins or Troy Burns as the lead, I could listen to either, then Chris Smith as the tenor. Chris does a one man quartet and can sing in the tenor range. Also, his voice quality is fairly similar to Archie's. I do know that the voices would blend in a pleasing manor. I would go to hear them. Just a thought.

Martin Cook chose some fantastic talent to join the ranks of The Inspirations over the years, and you are quite right: any combination of them would make a decent quartet.
Troy Burns sang lead for the group for years, but he was actually their first bass singer, and an impressive bass, at that! However, he doesn't seem to do much with the group anymore, save a few reunions...rather, he spends his time pursuing other endeavors...but, he is quite talented.
Eddie Deitz pastors a church now, and, while SGM is in his blood, his first love is preaching the Gospel. I agree with you wholeheartedly...he is a fantastic baritone, and he was even a decent tenor in his early career with the group!
Chris Smith has an amazing range, although I'm not too impressed with his bass singing. He could sing Tenor, or Lead, or Baritone easily.
Marlin Schubert, according to Martin Cook, was dead on for hitting the right note. He may not have had the best tone quality, but he never missed hitting his note. I think their recordings with Schubert at the bass were very good, especially Old Time Singin'.
Ron Hutchins is a phenomenal lead singer, but his health in recent years mandated that he retire from the road. He still leads singing at his home church in Bryson City...I've attended services there, and he is very good at what he does. He is also the webmaster for The Inspirations' website.
Even Dale Jones, the former steel guitar player for the group, could sing! In fact, he was featured on their Something to Sing About! album, on the song "He's The One That's Called Jesus"
However, one of my favorite variations of The Inspirations was Archie on tenor, Mike Holcomb on lead, Jack Laws on baritone, and Troy Burns on bass...Martin called it the "Cherokee Indian Quartet, No. 2"....very, very smooth sound!!!!

That particular line-up (Archie, Troy, Jack, and Mike) was from about 1982-1986, when they were performing a lot in Gatlinburg.
I've said this before, but I think their best line-up was from the mid- to late-1970s:
Archie Watkins, Tenor
Troy Burns, Lead
Eddie Deitz, Baritone
Mike Holcomb, Bass
Martin Cook, Piano
Jack Laws, Upright Bass/Special Vocal
Roger Fortner, Lead Guitar
Dale Jones, Steel Guitar
C.D. Burns, Rhythm Guitar
During this time, on occasion, they would form a quintet, which sounded superb:
Archie = Soprano
Eddie = Lead/Tenor
Troy = Lead
Jack = Lead/Baritone
Mike = Bass
[With the 5 of these, either Eddie, Troy, or Jack could sing lead...When Jack would sing lead, Archie would sing the same line, but one octave higher.]
While I write this, I find myself surprised at just how diverse these guys are! Again, I give the credit to Martin Cook: he's a genius!

I have seen Mike's solo CD's on their website, and always wanted to get them, but so far i haven't. Someday when i get some extra money, i may get them and check them out.

They would no doubt be worth owning, however, there are several other of the Inspirations albums that I am looking for right now. One day I'll get them.
