Organic Chemistry. I HATED the class and the teacher. It required a TON of memorizing, something I've never been good at. I tried to study and did horrible of the quizes and tests. I didn't study and did horrible on the quizes and tests. I passed o-chem 1 with a D and eventually dropped 2. Blah!

One of my intro to education classes, not because it was difficult but because the professor was horrible. She accused me of plagerism and overcitation in the same paper. Calc II was probably my most challenging though. Calc I and III were both easy for me, but calc II was brutal.

Spanish IV was my hardest class...
Because I wasn't good at it, I had a death in my close family the summer I was taking it to graduate...and the teacher was INSANE. Like asking one thing and expecting another.

In the end...she pretty much told me I would pass if I wrote a letter dogging another teacher. Sad, huh?

Comparative Politics of Industrialized States.

The course was great but the TA had it in for me (and I don't know why). She gave me seriously low marks, and at one point during the semester I got really sick and the doctor had to excuse me from school for a couple of weeks. I handed in an assignment late, so the TA marked it and then passed it along to the Prof to look over. When I got the assignment back I noticed that the Prof had erased every comment the TA had given me (which was a full page worth with a B-). The Prof wrote "great work" on it and gave me an A. Well that must have really ticked the TA off because she was extremely hard on me for the rest of the semester (and the prof kept changing the marks I was given).

The hardest for me has been Reporting. I used to be a journalism major and had to take the class. It was basically what real reporters/journalists do everyday and I hated every minute of it! The worst part of the class though was the grading system. If we made a fact error you automatically dropped to a 50% on the assignment. Journalism was definitely not for me.

You should have fought that one- if it was supposed to be based on *real* journalsm... then you should have gotten an A+ regradless of errors unless someone in class caught the error... then you sould be kicked out of class. And the grading should be on a curve, so that catching a factual error in someone who got a better grade than you would mean you get their job, I mean, your grade goes up.

All those who are good writers would disappear. Only those lacking morals would be left

Of course, the prof could also give you the opportunity to write a retraction in which you support your facts or explain that you can't give proof because you have to keep your source confidential.

So... in *that* case, really good writiers with shaky morals could stay in class along with all the bad writers with no morals.

Organic Chemistry

I'd have to say this one was the hardest for me so far. I didn't need the two semester course, so I took a "survey of" class, which dropped the lab and crammed the class into one semester. I barely pulled a C in the class, which is the minimum grade necessary for me to take Biochem. Calc I was easy, the way Calc II is done at my school makes it really hard, Calc III isn’t too bad, but spherical transformations of triple integrals are of the devil. Physics I just makes sense to me, so I’m doing well. Haven’t taken Diffy Q or Physics II yet, but I’m not too worried. Supposedly the “weed out” class of my major is called “Conservation Principals in Biomedical Engineering” which I take in the spring, so if this thread is still alive next summer you may see me back here

Algerbra I. I never did pass that one. The teacher would always turn around and look at me and say "Do you understand?" And I'd think to myself, "No, but I don't even know how to ask an intelligent question, so just move on."

The toughest class I had was College Alegebra and it was not the subject matter that made it so difficult. I had a professor who had such a thick accent that I could barely understand her. I ended up with a very bad grade and wished I would have dropped the class altogether.

History of Spain

If I hadn't been working full time and taking so many other classes, it would have been a breeze though. Spanish was kind of my undeclared minor at the time.

US History-Pre Civil War. My professor was British and HATED Americans!! I don't understand why if he hated Americans so much why was he in the US teaching US history?? All he did was talk about how stupid Americans are and how much he hates this country. Also, he spent a lot of time talking about him and his boyfriend and their trips across the US in and RV. I am not interested in history and this professor was horrible. I ended up dropping the class after I failed the first test.

Asian Art History. I do not find ancient Eastern art attractive, I do not care about Buddha, and I failed the class.

It is interesting he was living in the US teaching American History. Although one of top programs for studying American Colonial History is Cambridge. My husband discovered this when he was looking at schools to get a PhD in American History.

I had a few that were really hard for different reasons:

Western Civilization 1 and 2. THe teacher was very boring: his name was Doezima which rhymes with snoozima and which he was called behind his back. He also gave these aweful tests that were matching and on these scantron sheets where you filled in the dots and it was graded by a computer. He would have the sections long enough so you had to fill in 2 or 3 circles for each answer and they were always so grammatically complicated that they were hard to understand. In my education courses one girl said she was dyslexic and had taken his course. She was able to get him to give her essay tests because she just couldn't take his tests.

Physics: I had a room mate that year that stayed up til about 2 AM and I had this class at 8 AM

Prob and Stats. I absolutely hate prob and stats. I was a math major. I had this class at 10 the same year as physics and would go back to my room to nap after physics and missed a lot of prob and stats classes. I was able to pull the C I needed for my major though.

I loved Differential Equations: AKA diffeyq. It was probably the easiest of my math courses and fun.

That's an easy one: Human Nature and Utopia. It dealt with human nature, past attempts at utopian societies, can't remember much detail. There were probably about a dozen of us in the class and most of us got no higher than fifty something scores on the first round of tests--except for one guy who had a photographic memory. He scored close to a 100 if not a 100, and hardly ever scribbled a note during class, he would write a word or phrase here and there as memory aid. The rest of us wrote like crazy...there was so much material spewing out, but all of it high quality.

For a while, that class made me feel like my mind was literally stretched, like you would stretch a musle. It was a physical feeling, like somebody reached in and pulled my brain outwards, never happened again since. I think he was a great teacher, to be able to get students to go pass their apparent limits, though I'm glad none of my other classes were that hard LOL.

A few years later I ran into this teacher at a Unitarian Universalist church...I was a seeker then, looking for reality and the true purpose of life. He claims to be a Christian, but I don't know if he is, in a UU church people think all kinds of things but I hope he really is, maybe he was the salt in that place. He's a "good" man. One thing about that UU church, it had exceptional discussion group, and the singles group I was a part of had more fun things going then in any Christian singles group I know of today. And I knew some very nice people there, as nice as in any nice Christian church, I hope they get saved.

4th year life sciences. I detest math. My first day class in year four was a lecture class with 250 students so you couldn't ask any questions. The prof wrote out one math equation that covered three large balck-boards. I panicked. How could I possibly understand all those symbols that were so long? Eventually I got the hang of it but not without a huge struggle.

God Bless

Undergrad - Intro to Psychology, only because the prof seriously needed a psychologist.

Post-grad - Human Gross Anatomy, because the whole course was crammed into one term.

My hardest class should not have been my hardest. I took much tougher subjects in college. But for this particular class, I had a pill for a teacher. He was the dept. chair, and he was hacked he was having to teach the class. It was intro to marketing. He took out his anger on us. I did learn alot in the class, but it was painful. This guy just stuck it to us every chance he got. We should have complained. If I was taking the class now, I would. He would tell us to turn in research papers wtihin a few days. Absurd. This happened about every other week. Many of us were in disbelief. I ended up doing six 10 page papers for that class, and he was TOUGH on grading them. No walk in the park at all. Then to cap things off, he found out that some students had obtained the final, so he changed it at the last minute. He had already prepped us on the final, but when we showed up for class, this was the test: "What constitutes a going concern?" No problem. I can write on that for a long time, but there was dead silence for at least five minutes, because no one knew what this guy wanted. Then almost in unison there was fast and furious writing in those blue books. Almost half the class flunked the test, and no curve.
