Evening, all y'all! Be sure to migrate to my thread for my little bit of news. I'm a bit lightheaded just thinking of it!

Thanks, Sue!

Hitting this milestone at the age of 48 is a bit crazy-making, but I'm kind of anxious to get started!

Okay, I just read Darcy's good news, and I'm thrilled for her! But Darcy, milestones at age 48 are wonderful! Remember the milestone I hit at that age? It's all the more sweet because God brought it so late in life!

Hi Deb! How are you today? Do you have help lined up for this weekend?

Hi Sue. Sorry I couldn't chat yesterday, but I made that last post just before supper. John was already rattling around in the kitchen. We have an interview at 5:00 our time today, so I'm not sure if I'll log back on afterwards or not.

We interviewed a good prospect Monday, so she's scheduled for Satuday. We hired Ms Fingernails for Saturday nights and alternate Sunday mornings, but she works at CVS on Saturday mornings.

I love the names you come up with for your attendants. Miss fingernails sounds a little scary though.

I'm going to be taking Joe around to drop off some applications for summer jobs. He seems to be a little overly cautious about the idea. Merv and I think he needs the experience though and have required it for him to be able to get his license.

Hi Deb! Speaking of fingernails...I'm finally getting a pedicure on Monday. Ok so that's toenails. Ha.

Ms. Fingernails has inch-long nails. Surprisingly, though, she manages quite well with them!

She was just here to pick up her check. Poor thing: she had to put her 15-year-old kitty cat to sleep Tuesday, and she's still in tears. That's such a tough thing to do! My heart broke for her.

I think it's good to make Joe's liscence conditional on getting a summer job!

Hi Deb and John. I've been outside tending to our flowers and little tomato plants.

Cynthia posted a link to the Eagle webcam on the homeschool chat thread. You can see the newly hatched chicks here.

Sue, some video doesn't work on my old laptop computer that I'm using, but I was delighted that the eagle webcam you shared a link to does work. So I got to see the eagle and chic moving.

Cool.

Thanks.

Yesterday I only saw Mama Eagle, but today I could see two chicks!

How did Joe's job hunt go?

I got him to fill out an application, but he didn't want to drop it off. He's not gung ho about getting a job. He envisions working 40 hours/week doing something boring, and possibly being stuck with only silly females as co-workers. With the job climate in this town, he'll be lucky to get a job at all and will probably only work a couple of days/week.

That's what I've been telling him. Plus, this isn't something he'll be doing for the rest of his life. This is just to get some experience in the workforce and earn a little money. There aren't a lot of opportunities in this area for 16 year-olds since we have all the college students around. In the summer, when the students are gone, things slow down to the point that most places won't be hiring. Because of that, we'll be understanding if he doesn't get a job. He'll need to apply to at least 10 places and continue applying to show good faith for him to get/keep his license. He's a good saver and has some money put back from working at Pioneer and other odd jobs.

Gotta go, they delivered out mulch and I have to help spread it.

I like the fact that you've tied looking for a job to getting or keeping his liscence. Freedom and responsibility go hand-in-hand. I'm sure he views a driver's liscence as an entitlement, but it isn't. All you want is evidence that he's mature enough to accept the responsibilities of driving (like buying gas and paying for adding him on to your insurance).

I always laugh when teens say they can't wait to "get out on their own" so they could do whatever they want to...

They have no idea....

I remember when a girlfriend's daughter got her first paycheck. She was devastated that they took out taxes! Predictably, her comment was: "That's not fair!"

That reminds me of a sitcom years ago (I can't recall which one), where a kid gets his first paycheck and angrily asks his parents:

Who's FICA and why's he taking all my money?

Not much... I'm just really looking forward to turning off my alarm clock tonight and praying I can sleep in a little... I am beat!

Well, the weekend will start soon. We're trying another new attendant tomorrow morning, but once that's over I can enjoy the weekend.
